听力原文:M: Hi, Cassie!
W: Hello, John, How are you?
M: I'm fine. Where are you heading?
W: Oh, I'm on my way home from work.
M: I didn't know you had a job.
W: I work part time at a supermarket.
M: What do you do then?
W: I work in the produce section, wrapping fresh fruits and vegetables and putting them on shelves. Sometimes when it really gets busy, I work at the check-out counter. Have you got a job, John?
M: Yes. I do yard work for people, you know, cutting grass, raking leaves, pulling weeds, things like that.
W: I'd like doing that. It must be nice to work outdoors.
M: Sometimes it is, except when it rains or snows or gets too hot or too cold or...
W: Ha, ha. I guess every job has its drawbacks. There are times when I get pretty tired of carrying things at my job. Have to earn money for school.
M: Me, too. Tuition sure is high, isn't it? Well, I'd better get going. Take care.
W: You too. It was great seeing you, John.

W: Hello, Phil. How are you ?
M: I'm fine. Where are you heading?
W: Oh, I'm on my way home from work.
M: I didn't know you had a job.
W: Yeah. I work part-time at a supermarket.
M: What do you do there?
W: I work in the produce section, trimming and wrapping fresh fruits and vegetables. I also stock shelves. Sometimes when it really gets busy, I work at the checkout counter. Have you got a job, Phil?
M: Yeah. I do yard work for people, you know, cutting grass, raking leaves, pulling weeds, things like that.
W: I'd like doing that. It must be nice to work outdoors.
M: Sometimes it is, except when it rains or snows or gets too hot or too cold or...
W: Ha, Ha, I guess every job has its drawbacks. There are times when I get pretty tired of carrying things around at my job, but a job is a job. Gotta earn money for school.
M: Me too. Tuition sure is high, isn't it? Well, I'd better get going. I've got to plant some trees for my neighbours this afternoon.
W: Well, don't work too hard. Holding down a job, going to class, studying, sometimes it can become too much for one person. Take it easy.
M: You, too. It was great seeing you, Cheryl!

A.She sells fruit and vegetables.
B.She puts groceries out on the shelves.
C.She helps customers to carry groceries.
D.She is in charge of cashing money.
W: I can't. In fact I need to finish early because I'm going over to the psychology department to talk to Professor Smith about a job opening.
M: You mean a job on campus?
W: Yeah. And it sounds pretty interesting. It involves helping with her study on learning style. You know, about how some people learn best by sight, while others learn best by heating or touch.
M: Yeah. I know that's her area of expertise.
W: Right. Anyway for her study she's taking some high schools students who aren't doing very well in their classes and testing them to find out what their learning styles are. Then tutors, people like me, will work with them presenting material to them in their particular teaming style.
M: Hey. That is interesting. Now will you mostly do the testing or the tutoring?
W: Both I hope. I want to ha involved from start to finish.
M: Are you getting paid for this?
W: I'm sure we'll get something, though probably not much. Anyway it doesn't matter to me. I just want to have some handson experience.
M: Yeah. And it'll be nice to help those high school students too.
W: That's what I thought when I saw the ad. You know, you could do it too. You don't have to be in her classes to work on the study.
M: Really? Do you have any idea what the schedule is like?
W: Late afternoon, then evening for tutoring I think. After all, the kids are in regular classes until flume thirty.
M: Actually that's perfect for me.
W: Then come along. We will save the lab report for later. But we'd better make sure we do a good job on our experiment first.
M: Yeah. First things first.

听力原文:M:Hi there. (19)Have you heard that the company is cutting staff? I just hope I wouldn't be that unlucky.
W:Ha, don't be afraid of that. To tell you, actually I just took voluntary redundancy four years ago.
M:I can't imagine that! But how do you go through it?
W:Oh, it is of course not a very happy experience to go through. But, as we may find out, sometimes it can be a blessing in disguise.
M:I do need some advice to turn it into a good thing.
W:(19)My advice would be to see it as an opportunity to create a new life. And if you reinvent your life, remember that you've got to reeducate yourself and that means investing in yourself. (20)And one of the best ways is to do a lowly paid or unpaid internship or to be an apprentice.
M:I thought you'd tell me to go and blow it on a cruise or a holiday.
W:That is not bad. But getting some experience will help you into a next kind of life.
M:Oh, then what was your plan ? You had anything different?
W:Well, you know, (21)I have received some compensation and I saw that an opportunity to get rid of some debts, so I paid off some bills. And the financial freedom then allowed me to develop some new skills, find out what I enjoy in life. things that I am good at.
M:Sounds sensible but how are things with you now?
W:(22)Basically I have now developed what they call a career portfolio. That means instead of being able to do just one job in life you are able to do more than one.

W: Thank you, Edward.
M: What do you most admire in a person?
W: As for me, it is the ability to laugh in the face of disaster.
M: Is there anything that was once fun for you but now isn't?
W: Diving. I loved it. Then I had to have an artificial nose made for me in the movie Nanny McPhee, and while I was inside the mask, I had a panic attack. And interestingly, the next time I went scuba diving, I couldn't breathe through my nose.
M: Five years ago, you took in a former child soldier from Rwanda. (23) He's now not only attending an English university but this year will become a British citizen. You must be excited.
W: Oh, we wept. We were in shock because we had not expected it. (24)He's taking his citizenship exams, which has made us laugh because the questions they ask are so ridiculous.
M: Like what?
W: Things like "What's the second title that the queen holds as the head of the Church of England?" Who knows that? I'll bet even the queen's forgotten.
M: Well, neither do I know it. Ha ha. So you're turning 50 in April. Any plans?
W: (25) We're shooting the second Nanny McPhee, which is a very good way of celebrating because those movies are such heaven to make. For the actual birthday, we're going to Scotland and we're going to make a really stupid film with our friends that I can show to everyone on my birthday, I'm going to celebrate it for a year.
