Planes usually do not need to climb quickly or fly high in the polar region because______.
A.they do not land there
B.there are no clouds at all
C.they can cross the ice with special equipment
D.it is very cold

Passage One
Every morning, kids from a local high school are working hard. They are making and selling special coffee at a coffee cafe. They are also making a lot of money.
These students can make up to twelve hundred dollars a day. They are selling their special coffee to airplane passengers. After the students get paid, the rest of the money goes to helping a local youth project.
These high school students use a space in the Oakland airport. It is usually very crowded. Many people who fly on the planes like to drink the special coffee.
One customer thinks that the coffee costs a lot but it is good and worth it. Most customers are pleasant but some are unhappy. They do not like it if the coffee cafe is not open for business.
The students earn $ 6.10 an hour plus tips. They also get school credit while they learn how to run a business. Many of the students enjoy the work although it took some time 1o learn how to do it.
They have to learn how to steam milk, load the pots, and add flavor. It takes some skill and sometimes
mistakes are made. The most common mistake is forgetting to add the coffee.
36. Based on the passage, it seems that the purpose of the cafe is to______.
A. learn a skill
B. help a youth project
C. do business
D. earn school credit

According to the writer, it seems that .
A.we can do without railways
B.trains have much in common with motorcars and planes
C.motorcars and planes are not as good as trains
D.trains are as good as motorcars and planes
Far from being dead, the railways are very much alive. Modern railway lines give you a smooth, untroubled journey. Where else can you eat well, sleep in comfort, feel safe and enjoy the scene while you are traveling at speed at the same time? And we are only at the beginning. For we have just entered the age of super-fast trains, trains traveling at 150 miles an hour and more. Soon we will be wondering why we spent so much on motorways we can’t use because we have not enough money to buy the oil and planes we can’t fly in for the same reason.
1. Some people think the railways are dead for many reasons EXCEPT that ____.
A. planes and motorcars have taken the place of trains
B. oil is expensive today
C. trains are slow
D. railways lose money
2. The writers idea seems to be that ______.
A. we can do without railways
B. trains have much in common with motorcars and planes
C. motorcars and planes are not as good as trains
D. trains are as good as motorcars and planes
3. According to the writer, which of the following is NOT the advantage of railways?
A. It is cheaper to travel by train than by plane.
B. Super-fast trains travel even faster than planes.
C. The railway station is usually at the center of a city.
D. A train carries more goods than a motorcar or plane does.
4. The writer thinks that the railways, far from being dead, are very much alive because ___________.
A. we can have a smooth and untroubled journey
B. we’ll not have enough money to fly everywhere
C. we can now travel in super-fast trains
D. all of the above
5. The best title for this passage may be ________.
A. The Best Choice: Train, Motorcar or Plane
B. The Dying Railways
C. Super-fast Trains in the Future
D. Not the End, But the Beginning

EA wind tunnel (风洞) is used for teasing planes or plane models. In a wind tunnel air is blown over a plane or a model placed in a test section (区).Wind tunnel test sections are different in size depending on airflow speed requirements. Some low-speed tunnels have test sections large enough for a complete small plane. In the very high speed tunnels used for space testing, however, the model may be as small as a pencil.
There are two ways of feeding air to the test section. In the constant flow tunnel, airflow is produced by electric fans. It is forced through the tunnel to the test section, then through another tunnel section back to the starting point for reuse.
The other way involves (卷入) storing high-pressure air in a box, sending it out by a controlling device (装置) to pass through the tunnel and test section into another box. This way is usually used for a very short period of high-speed airflow.
Wind tunnels are usually used to test planes before they are flown. Problems in a plane can be found when it meets the high-speed airflow in the tunnel. For example, if the wings are built so that they would weaken (become weak) at high speeds, this fact can be discovered in the tunnel, saving many lives and millions of dollars.
In a wind tunnel, scientists also find out how different planes will act different speeds. They find out such things as how the air dives by the wing surfaces, how slowly a plane can fly before it starts to drop, and how fast it can climb.
第52题:Some wind tunnel sections are larger than others because ________.
[A] they are used large planes
[B] stronger wind can be produced in them
[C] they are built to meet a higher speed test
[D] the wind used in them flows at a lower speed
