将下面一段英文翻译成中文: I’m a full-time white collar worker. I should say my working conditions are really good. The working hours are very reasonable. I work 38 hours a week, from Monday to Friday. I get a four-week holiday with pay. I always go on a two-week vacation in the summer and I usually take another week to travel abroad in the winter. Then still leaves a few days if I want to take time off for something. We’re even allowed to take an unpaid leave if it’s really necessary. Our company introduced a flexible working time system last year. I can start any time between 8 and 9 in the morning and sometimes can leave as early as 4 o’clock in the afternoon.

听力原文: The Great Fire of London started in the very early hours of September 2nd, 1666. In four days it destroyed more than three-quarters of the old city, where most of the houses were wooden and close together. One hundred thousand people became homeless, but only a few lost their lives.

The fire started on Sunday morning in the house of the King's baker in Pudding Lane. The baker, with his wife and family, was able to get through a window in the roof. A strong wind blew the fire from the bakery into a small hotel next door. Then it spread quickly into Thames Street. That was the beginning.

By eight o'clock three hundred houses were on fire. On Monday nearly a kilometer of the city was burning along the River Thames. Tuesday was the worst day. The fire destroyed many well-known buildings, old St Paul's and the Guildhall among them.

People threw their things into the river. Many poor people stayed in their houses until the last moment. Birds fell out of the air because of the heat. The fire stopped only when the King finally ordered people to destroy hundreds of buildings in the path of the fire. With nothing left to burn, the fire became weak and finally died out.

(33)

A.In a bakery.

B.In a hotel.

C.In a wooden house.

D.In old St Paul's church.

听力原文: It' s 8 o' clock on Tuesday, May 1st. Here is the news: Between the hours of 7:00 and 8:00 P.M. last night, 5 thieves broke into the country house of Lord and Lady Chesterfield on an island. They entered by a window at the rear of the house and surprised the owners who were watching television in the drawing room. After disconnecting the telephone and tying up Lord and lady Chest-field, the thieves escaped with 16 precious paintings. The market value of such art work has been estimated at somewhere around 4 million pounds. Lord and Lady Chesterfield were not seriously harmed but have been treated for shock in the hospital.

Early this morning a woman with a Scottish accent telephoned the Times of London to say that the Chesterfield Organization for Freedom claimed responsibility for the theft. This is the third time this year that this organization has claimed responsibility for an act of this kind. The organization defends all the farmers on the island. The farmers were forced to leave their lands when Lord Chesterfield, their landlord, refused to renew their traditional lease last year in order to extend the reservation area for birds.

(33)

A.They were drawing pictures.

B.They were watching TV.

C.They were making a telephone call.

D.They were tidying up the drawing room.

听力原文: Life-style. is the way a person lives; it includes work, leisure time, hobbies, other interests, and personal philosophy. One person's life-style. may be dominated by work, including few social activities. Another's may involve hobbies, recreational activities, or personal philosophy.

There is little doubt that life-styles are changing and that these changes will have an influence on the way business operates in the years ahead. Several factors are. causing life-style. changes in U.S. society.

First, there is more leisure time than ever before. The workweek is now less than forty hours, as compared to seventy hours a century ago. Some experts believe it will be twenty-five hours or less before the year 2020. Several firms have adopted four-day workweeks with more hours per day. Others have cut the number of hours working each week. Reduced work schedules mean increased leisure time.

Second, families have fewer children than before -- and young couples are postponing childbirth instead of having their children early in the marriage. This trend has forced many businesses to modify their competitive strategies.

Gerber Products Company used to advertise "babies are our business -- our only business." Now Gerber products include infant clothing, stuffed animals, and accessories such as bottles, baby's carriages, and baby powder.

Third, people are better educated and more prosperous now than they were earlier. These advantages bring with them the freedom to question current life-styles and examine new ones. Inquiries of this nature have sometimes led to personal life-style. changes.

(33)

A.Life-style. of different people is the same.

B.Different people may have completely different life-styles.

C.It's doubtful whether life-styles are changing.

D.The changes of life-styles have' no influence on business.

听力原文:W: Well, did you get to find out about tile trains?

M: Yes, I've got the leaflets here. And you got the coaches ,did you?

W: Yes, look, I've just worked it out.

M: Well, that's OK. There are trains all day, according to this. Here, there's one leaving King Cross at 8:00 in the morning.

W: (22) Oh, goodness no. That would mean getting up at 6: 00. Count me out for that one, when's the next?

M: 10 o'clock. Leaves Kings Cross at 10 o'clock, gets into Aberdeen at 17: 21. Not bad. Seven hours and a bit on the way. It's 530 miles, after all.

W: I suppose it's very expensive, isn't it?

M: No, (23) what about going by plane?

W: You know how I feel about flying.

M: What about the coaches? (24) But can you imagine being stuck in a bus for twelve hours? At least on the train you can get up and walk about a bit, you know, stretch your legs.

W: All right, then, you do better. Find me a nice cheap night train.

M: That's the trouble. There aren't any cheap tickets at night. It says so clearly here. It says the cheap tickets are valid only for trains timed to depart between 10 o'clock in the morning and 2:00 in the afternoon. Mum, here it is, not valid for sleepers.

W: (25) That's why the Day, Savers are cheap, you see. They want people to travel at unpopular times.

(23)

A.On the train there would be no cheap tickets.

B.The company is not paying their travel expenses.

C.They would have to leave home very early to catch it.

D.That train wouldn't arrive in Aberdeen until 6:00.

Samuel Pepys, the famous writer, wrote about the fire.

After the fire, Christopher Wren, the architect, wanted a city with wider streets and fine new houses of stone. In fact, the streets are still narrow; but he did build more than fifty churches, among them a new St. Paul's.

The fire caused great pain and loss, but after it London was a better place: a city for the future and not just of the past.

Questions 33 to 35 are based on the passage you have just heard.

33. Where did the fire begin?

34. Why is Samuel Pepys mentioned in the passage?

35. What was the reason for the fire's ending?

(30)

A.In a hotel.

B.In the palace.

C.In Pudding Lane.

D.In Thames Street.

听力原文: For many years, officials of the National Institutes of Health have told Americans that they need to get enough sleep to stay healthy and perform. well. In the past, the N-I-H targeted special groups, like drivers, soldiers and astronauts.

Now, health officials have begun a campaign to urge children to get enough sleep. The officials say children need at least nine hours o(sleep every night. They say research shows that children who get this much sleep perform. better in school, suffer fewer accidents and are less likely to become too fat.

Studies show that lack of sleep causes tiredness and problems with clear thinking. People who do not get enough sleep become angry easily and have trouble controlling their emotions.

Among children, problems that result from lack of sleep often are mistaken for more serious disorders. Unlike adults, tired children seem to have endless energy. Some doctors mistakenly identify this as hyperactivity.

Experts say many American teenagers are not getting enough sleep. Teenagers stay up later for several reasons, including schoolwork, after school activities and late- night fun. Many high school students in the United States start school very early in the morning.

(33)

A.To urge children to get enough sleep.

B.To relieve the burden of school children.

C.To dissuade teenagers from staying up late.

D.To tell Americans to have 9 hours of sleep every night.
