听力原文: Psychologists have confirmed what writers have always believed: that books are l

iterally the stuff of dreams. A survey has confirmed that people with a taste for fiction experienced dreams that contained more improbable events, and their dreams were more emotionally intense. The survey also found that people who read thrillers were no more likely to have nightmares. But those with a weakness for science fiction were rather more likely to wake up suddenly with a cold sweat. The study, according to Mark Blagrove of the University of Wales, is perhaps the first experiment to determine a link between the waking world and dreams. Dr. Blagrove and colleagues distributed 100,000 questionnaires about sleep patterns and literary taste, and got more than 10,000 replies. They found that 58% of all adults had experienced at least one dream in which they were aware they were dreaming -- and that women could recall more dreams than men. Older people seemed to dream less and have fewer nightmares. Around 44% of children said their dreams were affected by the books they had been reading. "Children who report reading scary books have three times the number of nightmares as children who don't," said Dr. Blagrove.

According to the investigation, who is likely to have nightmares?

A.People with a taste for science fiction.

B.People who read thrillers.

C.Women who like to read.

D.Children who are able to read.

听力原文: Some psychologists maintain that mental acts such as thinking are not performed in the brain alone, but that one's muscles also participate. It may be said that we think with our muscles in somewhat the same way that we listen to music with our bodies. You surely are not surprised to be told that you usually listen to music not only with your ears but with your whole body. Few people can listen to music that is more or less familiar without moving their body or, more specifically, some part of their body. Often when one listens to a symphonic concert on the radio, one is tempted to direct the orchestra even though one knows there is a competent conductor on the job.

Strange as this behavior. may be, there is a very good reason for it. One cannot derive all possible enjoyment from music unless one participates, so to speak, in its performance. The listener "feels" himself into the music with more or less pronounced motions of his body.

The muscles of the body actually participate in the mental process of thinking in the same way, although this participation is less obvious because it is less pronounced.

(30)

A.Thinking is not a mental process.

B.Thinking was only a mental action.

C.Thinking is a process that involves our entire body.

D.Thinking is a process that involves the muscles as well as the brain.

听力原文: Men usually think the cartoon is funny. Women do not. And there's a good reason for the difference in opinion. We start finding things laughable or not laughable-early in life. And infant first smiles at approximately eight days of age. Many psychologists feel this is his first sign of simple pleasure. At six months or less, the infant laughs to express complex pleasures- such as the sight of Mother's smiling face. Psychiatrist Martin says that the earlier an infant begins to smile and laugh, the more advanced is his development. Studies revealed that children who did not develop these responses "developed some 'disease' in later life, or simply gave up and died."

(23)

A.Baby.

B.Children.

C.Men.

D.Women.

听力原文: Psychologists believe that our dreams can often give us interesting information about ourselves, if we will take the time to look at them seriously. On the simplest level, dreams can make us aware of things we have missed during the day because we were too busy to notice them. For instance, if you dream of your teeth falling out, you may have unconsciously picked up signs of dental trouble. Or if you dream of missing an important appointment, our dream may be trying to remind you of an engagement coming up that you have forgotten write down.

On a deeper level, dreams can show us how we really feel about our relationships, for instance, a young woman who considered herself fairly happily married dreamed of angrily bashing her husband over the head with a vacuum cleaner. The dream was urging the woman to get in touch with her feelings of resentment toward her husband for insisting that she stay home instead of taking an interesting job.

(33)

A.That she was vacuuming her apartment.

B.That she was very happy.

C.That she was hitting her husband with a household appliance.

D.That her husband attacked her with a vacuum cleaner.

听力原文:Are you afraid to raise your hand in class, even when you definitely know the ans

听力原文: Are you afraid to raise your hand in class, even when you definitely know the answer? If you are, most people would say that you're of a shy character. If you feel slay, you're not alone. Nine out of ten people are at least a little shy. (29) But however shy you are, scientific evidence seems to show that it isn't your fault, You may have been born that way. To some degree, everybody is shy.

(30) How do psychologists measure shyness? One of their ways is by observation. They keep detailed records of people's actions—like how often these people speak to others or how long it takes someone to say hello to a stranger. Another way to measure shyness is to ask people questions. The test only takes about 10 minutes. It asks questions like "Do you like going out a lot?", "Do you feel at ease in a strange environment?" and "Do you have many friends?" People must answer either yes or no. (31) The questions are used to predict how people actually behave in real social situations. Suppose the test tells you that someone is shy, chances are good that that person will act shy. When scientists measure shyness, they're really comparing degrees of shyness. In other words, when researchers say people are shy, they really mean they are shyer than others.

29. Why does the speaker say that it isn't a fault to be shy?

30.What is one of the ways suggested by psychologists for measuring shyness?

31.What is the purpose of the psychologists in asking questions?

(4)

A.Because many people don't like social situations.

B.Because most people may be shy by nature.

C.Because nobody will laugh at you for being shy.

D.Because shyness is difficult to overcome.

听力原文: People can be addicted to different things, e.g., alcohol, drugs, certain foods, or even television. People who have such an addiction are compulsive, i.e., they have a very powerful psychological need that they feel they must satisfy. According to psychologists, many people are compulsive spenders: they feel that they must spend money. This compulsion, like most others, is irrational -- impossible to explain reasonably. For compulsive spenders who buy on credit, charge accounts are even more exciting than money. In other words, compulsive spenders feel that with credit, they can do anything. Their pleasure in spending enormous amounts is actually greater than the pleasure that they get from the things they buy.

There is even a special psychology of bargain hunting. To save money, of course, most people look for sales, low prices, and discounts. Compulsive bargain hunters, however, often buy things that they don't need just because they are cheap. They want to believe that they are helping their budgets, but they are really playing an exciting game: when they can buy something for less than other people, they feel that they are winning. Most people, experts claim, have two reasons for their behavior. a good reason for the things that they do and the real reason.

It is not only scientists, of course, who understand the psychology of spending habits, but also business-people. Stores, companies and advertisers use psychology to increase business: they consider people's need for love, power, or influence, their basic values, their beliefs and opinions, and so on in their advertising and sales methods.

Psychologists often use a method called "behavior. therapy" to help individuals solve their personality problems. In the same way, they can help people who feel that they have problems with money.

According to psychologists, a compulsive spender wants to spend a lot of money because:

A.he suffers from an irrational compulsion.

B.he takes great pleasure in the things he buys.

C.he needs more necessities in life.

D.he feels he can do anything with his credit card.

听力原文:Most people feel lonely sometimes. But it usually only lasts between a few minute

听力原文: Most people feel lonely sometimes. But it usually only lasts between a few minutes and a few hours. This kind of loneliness is not serious. In fact, it is quite normal. For some people though, loneliness can last for years. Now re-searchers say there are three different types of loneliness.

Tile first kind of loneliness is temporary. This is the most common type. It usually disappears quickly and does not require any special attention. The second kind, situational loneliness, is a natural result of a particular situation-for example, a family problem, the death of a loved one, or moving to a new place. Although this kind of loneliness can cause physical problems, such as headaches and sleeplessness, it usually does not last for more than a year. The third kind of loneliness is the most severe. Unlike the second type, chronic loneliness usually lasts more than two years and has no specific cause. People who experience habitual loneliness have problems socializing and becoming close to others.

Unfortunately, many chronically lonely people think there is little or nothing they can do to improve their conditions.

Psychologists agree that one important factor in loneliness is a person’s social contacts, e. g. , friends, family members, co-workers, etc. We depend on various people for different reasons. For instance, our families give us e-motional support, our parents and teachers give of guidance, and our friends share similar interests and activities. However, psychologists have found that, though lonely people may have many social contacts, they sometimes feel they should have more. They question their own popularity.

Which of the following is the best title of the passage?

A.Types of Loneliness.

B.Causes of Loneliness.

C.Solutions to Loneliness.

D.Loneliness.

听力原文: People appear to be born to compute. The numerical skills of children develop so early and so inexorably that it is easy to imagine an internal clock of mathematical maturity guiding their growth. Not long after learning to walk and talk, they can set the table with impressive accuracy—one plate, one knife, one spoon, one fork, for each of the five chairs. Soon they are capable of noting that they have placed five knives, spoons, and forks on the table and, a bit later, that this amounts to fifteen pieces of silverware. Having thus mastered addition, they move on to subtraction. It seems almost reasonable to expect that if a child were secluded on a desert island at birth and retrieved seven years later, he or she could enter a second-grade mathematics class without any serious problems of intellectual adjustment.

Of course, the truth is not so simple. This century, the work of cognitive psychologists has illuminated the subtle forms of daily learning on which intellectual progress depends. Children were observed as they slowly grasped—or, as the case might be encountered—concepts that adults take for granted, as they refused, for instance, to concede that quantity is unchanged as water pours from a short stout glass into a tall thin one. Psychologists have since demonstrated that young children, asked to count the pencils in a pile, readily report the number of blue or red pencils, but must be coaxed into finding the total. Such studies have suggested that the rudiments of mathematics are mastered gradually, and with effort, They have also suggested that the very concept of abstract numbers—the idea of a oneness, a twoness, a threeness that applies to any class of objects and is a prerequisite for doing anything more mathematically demanding than setting a table—is itself far from innate.

What does the passage mainly discuss?

A.Trends in teaching mathematics to children.

B.The use of mathematics in child psychology.

C.The development of mathematical ability in children.

D.The fundamental concepts of mathematics that children must learn.
