听力原文:M: Amy, are you interested in joining us for the party this weekend? W: Id love

to. But I have tutoring then. M: Tutoring? I can hardly imagine that you need a help with a class. W: I mean Im tutoring someone else. I go downtown to tutor a few students at high school. M: I find that hard to believe. And what subject do you tutor, math or something else? W: Right. You see, the city is trying to raise the standards for its math classes. The problem is, a lot of the kids are far behind when they get to juniour high school. M: Yeah, I have read such report in the newspaper. But does the time schedule conflict with your own classes? W: I only have three students for forty minutes each weekend. Most of the tutors there are students at university, so our classes arent over there. And we are volunteers, so the programme doesnt cost a lot and the city education department likes us. M: Can you afford to take that much time away from your own studying? W: Some weeks are kind of hard especially when the examination is approaching. But anyway I may as well get used to teaching easy materials to the students, so as to get the practical experience. M: And it must be nice to help people. W: Definitely. Forty minutes a week isnt much time, but all the three of my students have improved in the months weve worked together. Its really inspiring. 听力原文: America is a country on the move. In unheard of numbers, people of all ages are exercising their way to better health. According to the latest figures, 59 percent of American adults exercise regularly, up 12 percent from just two years ago and more than double the figure of 25 years ago. Even non-exercisers believe they would be more attractive and confident if they were more active. It is not hard to get the message. The virtues of physical fitness are shown on magazine covers, postage stamps, and television ads for everything from beauty soaps to travel books. Exercise as a part of daily life did not catch on until the late 1960s when research by military doctors began to show the health benefits of doing regular physical exercise. Growing publicity for races held in American cities helped fuel a strong interest in the ancient sport of running. Although running has levelled off in recent years as Americans have discovered equally rewarding and sometimes safer forms of exercise, such as walking and swimming, running remains the most popular form. of exercise. As the popularity of exercise continues to mount, so does scientific evidence of its health benefits. The key to fitness is exercising the major muscle groups vigorously enough to approximately double the heart rate and keep it doubled for 20 to 30 minutes at a time. Doing such physical exercises three or more times a week will produce considerable improvements in physical health in about three months. Questions 16 to 18 are based on the passage you have just heard. 16. According to the passage, what was the percentage of American adults doing regular physical exercises two years ago? 17. What can be learnt about the health benefits of exercise from the passage? 18. Which would be the best title for the passage?17.

B.They are yet to be proved.

C.They are to be further studied.

听力原文: Advertising is the tool that has always been used to convince the public to buy products. In the beginning, it was a basic and crude tool. Craftsmen cried out to passers-by, telling the quality of their products. Today, newspapers, magazines, radio, and television use a variety of means to introduce the public to many products developed through technology. The Romans started using recorded advertisements. They smoothed and whitened areas on a wall where advertisements could be written or carved. In the Middle Ages, people continued to use verbal announcements and written messages, but a new form. of advertising, using symbols, was developed as well. Shops displayed a special symbol to indicate what goods or services could be found inside. The Industrial Revolution caused an explosion in the advertising field. The abundance of luxury goods, coming both from new inventions and from trade with different parts of the world, meant that consumers had to be told more about products than ever before. They had to be persuaded that they needed all these new products and that one product was superior to its many competitors. The buying public was soon being exposed to endless amounts of advertising. Questions 22 to 25 are based on the passage you have just heard. 22. What is the passage mainly about? 23. How did early craftsmen advertise their products? 24. Who first started using written advertisements? 25. When did advertising first boom?23.

A.By door to door advertising.

B.By using symbols.

C.By verbal announcements.

D.By written messages.
