A bucket of water with total mass 23 kg is attached to a rope, which in turn is wound around a 0.050-m radius cylinder at the top of a well. A crank with a turning radius of 0.25 m is attached to the end of the cylinder and the moment of inertia of cylinder and crank is 0.12 kg∙m^2. If the bucket is raised to the top of the well and released, what is the acceleration of the bucket as it falls toward the bottom of the well? _______m/s^2. (Assume rope's mass is negligible, that cylinder turns on frictionless bearings and that g = 9.8 m/s^2.)

听力原文: There was a gardener who looked after his garden with great care. To water hi
s flowers, he used two buckets. One was a shiny and new bucket. The other was a very old and worn-out one, which had seen many years of service, but was now past its best. Every morning, the gardener would fill up the two buckets. Then he would carry them along the path, one on each side, to the flowerbeds. The new bucket was very proud of itself. It could carry a full bucket of water without a single drop spilled. The old bucket felt very ashamed because of its holes: before it reached the flowerbeds, much water had leaked along the path. Sometimes the new bucket would say, "See how capable I am! How good it is that the gardener has me to water the flowers every day! I dont know why he still bothers with you. What a waste of space you are!" And all that the old bucket could say was, "I know I am not very useful, but I can only do my best. I am happy that the gardener still finds a little bit of use in me, at least." One day, the gardener heard that kind of conversation. After watering the flowers as usual, he said, "You both have done your work very well. Now I am going to carry you back. I want you to look carefully along the path." Then the two buckets did so. All along the path, they noticed, on the side where the new bucket was carried, there was just bare earth; on the other side where the old bucket was carried, there was a joyous row of wild flowers, leading all the way to the garden. Questions 19 to 21 are based on the passage you have just heard. 19. What was the old bucket ashamed of? 20. What was the new buckets main purpose of making conversations with the old one? 21. Why was the old bucket still kept by the gardener?20.

A.To laugh at the old one.

B.To take pity on the old one.

C.To show off its beautiful looks.

D.To praise the gardener"s kindness.

Professor Plumb has just invented a highly concentrated form. of food. All the essential n
utritive elements are put together in the form. of pellets which, diluted with water, will form. all that is necessary to support life. The Professor looks forward confidently to revolutionising the present food system. Now this kind of thing may be all very well in its way, but it is going to have its drawbacks as well. In the bright future anticipated by Professor Plumb, we can easily imagine such incidents as the following: The smiling family were gathered round the hospitable board. The table was plenteously laid with a soup-plate in front of each beaming child, a bucket of hot water before the radiant mother, and at the head of the board the Christmas dinner of the happy home, warmly covered by a thimble and resting on a poker chip. The expectant whispers of the little ones were hushed as the father, rising from his chair, lifted the thimble and disclosed a small pill of concentrated nourishment on the chip before him. Christmas turkey, cranberry sauce, plum pudding, mince pie—it was all there, all jammed into that little pill and only waiting to expand. Then the father with deep reverence, and devout eye alternating between the pill and heaven, lifted his voice in a benediction.

听力原文: Water is a continually changing, dynamic surface. This makes studying the weather much more important on the water than on land. For this reason, a simple 24-bour, pocket-sized weather radio should be standard equipment for your boat.

Storms send advance warnings if you know what to look for. Many weather changes can be read in the ever-changing cloud patterns. The first visual signs of a storm will appear in the west, southwest, or northwest. There will be a high cloud formation with a dirty bottom and a tall, stringy top as beginning boaters, my friends and I admired these beautiful cloud formations from our kayak on the Connecticut River on a day we will not forget. The violence of the hurricane-force winds that hit us in our small kayak will be remembered forever.

If you are in your boat, and a storm is on its way, don't try to outrun it. Head for a protected area. If you get stuck, use a bucket or any kind of drag attached to the anchor line, and sit or lie on the bottom of the boat. Many people drown in storms because they stand up, swing their arms, and holler for help. After the storm passes, the boat is floating peacefully without occupants. They fell overboard and drowned.

B.Weather forecasters.

C.Journalism students.

D.Radio operators.

听力原文: TUVALU, a tiny country in the Pacific Ocean, has asked for help as it fears it will be swallowed up by the sea. Storms and huge waves are a constant threat and none of Tuvalu's nine little islands is more than five meters above sea level. Salt water is already entering the country's drinking water supply, as well as damaging plants that produce fruit and vegetable. Without urgent help, the country's days are numbered. But Tuvalu is not the first place to face sinking into the sea. Venice, a historic city in Italy, best known for its canals, has sunk about 24 cm over the past 100 years.

Experts say that it will have sunk another 20-50 cm by 2050. A century ago, St. Mark's Square, the lowest point in the city, flooded about nine times a year. Nowadays, it happens more than 100 times. While Venice is slowly sinking into the mud on which it stands. Tuvalu's rising sea level is caused by global warming. The average global temperatures also make water expand, so it takes up more space, causing the sea level to rise. The sea level has risen about 10-25 cm in the last 100 years. The main cause of global warming is human pollution. Through burning coal, oil and gas, people have been increasing the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, such as CO2. This adds to the power of the greenhouse effect, making the planet even warmer.

(30)

A.It is in the Atlantic Ocean.

B.It has almost been swallowed by the sea.

C.It consists of 9 islands.

D.It is famous for its canal.
