听力原文: Tennis is an international sport and each year there is a regular program of tournaments and championships. Players' performance in these events determines their seeding, or world ranking. If you play or are interested in tennis it's always a good idea to watch the professionals in action. You'll start to see how they use tactics to outplay their opponents. It is also interesting to see how play differs on different court surfaces. Some players prefer the slow game of the clay courts, others excel at the high-speed play of the grass court.

Tennis has four "Grand Slam" Tournaments. These are the main world events, perhaps the greatest tournaments in sport attracting the world's finest players. The Grand Slam events are: the Australian Open—Melbourne, January; the French Open—Paris, June; the Wimbledon Championships—Wimbledon, June/July; and the US Open—New York, September.

Other top tennis tournaments are: the ATP Tour, WTA Tour, the Hopman Cup, the Davis Cup and the Masters Series.

The Lawn Tennis Championships at Wimbledon was first played in 1877, witnessed by only a few hundred spectators. Now this highly professional tournament attracts an audience of 500,000 and through the press, radio, Internet and television a following of millions throughout the world. The Tournament starts each year six weeks before the first Monday in August and lasts for a fortnight or for as long as necessary to complete all events.

(31)

A.The Hopman Cup.

B.The Masters Series.

C.The Wimbledon Championships.

D.The ATP Tour.

H5N1 avian influenza, known commonly as bird flu, has killed at least 15 people across Asi
a and was confirmed in China on January 27. No human cases have been found in the mainland, but 13 of the country's 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities (直辖市) have reported the disease in poultry.

The Chinese government has taken measures to prevent and control the disease. Poultry within 3 km of infected farms is to be killed and those within 5 km vaccinated (进行接种疫苗 ). Meanwhile, there will be constant monitoring and daily reports on the disease across the country, and increased production of bird flu vaccines.

Among the Asian countries and regions affected by bird flu in animals, only Vietnam and Thailand have reported human cases. The people infected were reported to have caught the disease from poultry. While the World Health Organization (WHO) said there is "no proof of human-to-human transmission (传播)" of bird flu.

The big fear is that the disease could combine with a human influenza virus (病毒) to create a deadly new disease that will kill millions of people across the globe. Many Asian farmers live closely with their animals and sell live chickens in the market. This greatly increases the possibility of human beings infected with bird flu.

A spokesman of the WHO said that Asian countries affected by bird flu should introduce a more healthy way of raising and selling chickens. And the people there have to completely change their lifestyle. and attitude towards animals. Here are some safety measures for people to stay healthy:

Keep fit and well through regular exercise;

Avoid infected poultry and infected people;

Avoid eating raw or under-done poultry and eggs;

Make sure there is always fresh air in your home;

Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing;

Wash your hands frequently.

What does the underlined word "poultry" mean?

A.Wild birds.

B.Wild animals.

C.Home-raised birds.

D.Home-raised animals.

听力原文: Everyone knows about unemployment. But millions of working Americans are now facing a less familiar and perhaps more troubling problem: shrinking wages. It's a phenomenon that takes many forms. Some workers have had to swallow outright pay cuts. Others have lost their jobs and, in the tough labor market of today, have had to settle for new ones at less pay. Still others—including employees at such giants as AT&T, Boise Cascade and Starwood Hotels—have had to accept pay freezes that, when rising prices are factored in, amount to reduced compensation. To add insult to injury, companies everywhere are reducing bonuses and overtime and eroding health and pension benefits.

The numbers are grim. For the 500,000 workers laid off since January, the average job search has stretched to a 19-year high of nearly five months—about twice the duration of the typical severance package. According to outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas, 17% of those who do find work—nearly double the historical percentage—are settling for less pay. The net result of the various pressures on pay is in the first three months of 2003, median weekly earnings adjusted for inflation fell 1.5%, according to the U.S. Labor Department. That's the biggest drop since 1991, according to Jared Bernstein, an economist at the Economic Policy Institute, a research group based in Washington. Wage erosion partly explains why the Federal Reserve Board openly frets about the threat of deflation, a downward spiral in prices that can cripple an economy by making debt repayment more difficult and encouraging consumers to wait for even lower prices. Adding fuel to the deflation debate, the cost of goods to both consumers and manufacturers fell in April, officials reported last week.

Which of the following is NOT a form. of wage erosion?

A.Pay cuts.

B.Pay freezes.

C.Bonus reduction.

D.Job-hopping.

听力原文: Yahoo Inc., the world's largest Interner media company, and Motorola Inc., the second-biggest maker of mobile phones, said late on Wednesday that Motorola will embed Yahoo services on tens of millions of phones. The new multi-year deal calls for new mid-priced and high-end Motorola phones to run an integrated set of services known as Yahoo Go for Mobile (http://go. yahoo. com/ mobile) that includes Yahoo e-mail, search and address book in a single place. "We are looking at a broad range of phones," Bruce Stewart, vice president of business development for Yahoo's Connected Life's business unit, said in a phone interview. He declined to disclose names of the specific Motorola models involved. Yahoo's deal with Motorola is the second agreement with a major handset maker to use the Yahoo Go platform. -- a software system it introduced earlier this year designed to make Yahoo services as easy to use on mobile phones and TVs as they have become on computers. In January, Yahoo announced a deal with Finland's Nokia, the world's largest mobile handset maker, to begin installing Yahoo Go on millions of Nokia phones worldwide. The new deal builds on an existing partnership signed last July between the two companies in which Motorola has installed a version of Yahoo Mail locally on certain Motorola phones, enabling connection to Yahoo e-mail by the press of a button. The Nokia-Yahoo deal covers certain mid-priced and high-end phones in Nokia's Series 60 and "N" class multimedia phone categories, a Yahoo spokeswoman said. A single Yahoo Go Nokia model went on sale in the United States through wireless service provider Cingular in February. Five to ten such Nokia models are available in several European and Asian markets now, Stewart said.

As part of the latest deal, Motorola will pre-load and prominently feature Yahoo Go for Mobile on handsets it sells, worldwide, starting in the first half of 2007. The new ties between Internet companies and hardware makers promise to give consumers quicker access to personal Internet information than is possible on most current phones. Existing phone models require users to make several clicks and wait for a period of time before the phones can connect to the Web. Yahoo initiated its partnership with Nokia in March 2004 and first signed up Motorola as a partner in July 2005. Yahoo rival Google Inc. is racing to win similar positioning for its Web services through deals with handset makers and mobile carriers.

Which of the following is not included in the services of Yahoo Go for Mobile?

A.Yahoo e-mail.

B.Searching engine.

C.Online MSN cheating.

D.Address book.
