听力原文: Today we are going to talk about a species of fish that is rather unique: Today's lecture is about sea horses, if you've seen a sea horse, you may have noted that it has a horse-like head attached to its body. The sea horse has a long snout that is good for sucking. Instead of scales like most fish, sea horses have skin that is stretched over bony plates. The body extends to a prehensile tail, meaning that the tail can be used to grasp. The sea horse may grasp sea grass or coral to keep it stable in a moving current.
The sea horse has fins on its back that it can use to propel it through the water. However, sea horses aren't very good swimmers. They do not move quickly over great distances. The sea horse also has chest fins that it uses for stabilization. The chest fins help the sea horse float in an upright position.
One particularly unique feature of sea horse is that only the male becomes pregnant. The female inserts ripe eggs into the male' pouch, where they are fertilized. The eggs become embedded in the pouch wall.
What is this lecture mainly about?
A.Usual Species of fish.
B.Characteristics of a unique sea animal.
C.The harvest of fish eggs.
D.Unusual species of horses.
Male sea horses have a fold of skin on their bellies that forms a pocket, called a brood pouch. During the breeding season, the sea horse's pouch swells to receive eggs. A female sea horse lays up to 200 eggs at a time in the pouch. Then she swims off, leaving her male partner to care for the developing eggs and give birth to young sea horses. The female will return every day to check on her mate and the eggs, but she doesn't stay long, nor does she take part in the birth.
It takes from five to six weeks for the eggs in the male's pouch to develop. During this time the male avoids open water and hides in sea grass. His big pouch makes it difficult from him to swim, so the male often uses his tall to grasp a piece of sea grass. Firmly, gripping the grass, he will stay perfectly still for hours or even days. The male sea horse will change Iris color to blend with his surroundings and avoid being seen by predators who will try to eat him or poke holes in his pouch to get the eggs.
The eggs hatch inside the male's pouch. When the babies begin moving around, the mate sea horse knows it's time for them to be born. He grabs a sea grass stem with his tail and begins rocking, bending his body back and forth, this causes the opening to enlarge until wide enough for the first baby sea horse to shoot out. the father sea horse continues rocking, bending, and stretching his body so that the rest of the babies can be born. Sometimes he has to press his pouch against a rock or some stiff seaweed to force the young out.
Sea horse babies are born in groups of five or more. Sometimes it takes two days for the father sea horse to give birth to all his young. He is very tiered when it's over.
Soon after giving birth to one brood, the male will approach his mat and show her his empty pouch. This tells her he is ready to receive eggs again.
What part does the female sea horse play in having babies?
A.Receive eggs.
B.Laying eggs.
C.Hatching eggs.
D.Protecting eggs.

听力原文: On 27 August 1783, the people of the village of Gonesse, in France, looked up into the sky and saw a strange and terrible animal, it was huge and round and it was floating down from the sky. It landed in a field just outside the village. It was clear to the people of Gonesse that they had to defend themselves. The animal was clearly some kind of terrible "Monster". They were afraid of the monster, but they were also very brave. They rushed out into the field and attacked the animal with knives and sticks and farming tools. The monster made terrible noises, like an animal that can breathe only with great difficulty. But that was not the worst thing. When the villagers cut into the monster's skin, it gave off a horrible smell. And even after the villagers had cut the thing open, it still moved. Finally, the villagers tied it to a horse. The horse ran through the fields and the monster was torn to pieces.
What was this terrible monster? The answer is that it was one of the first "hot air balloons" Its "skin" was made of silk and a kind of robber. The terrible smell was the hot air inside the balloon. When the hot air escaped through the cuts in the skin, it also caused the horrible noises.
