Michele Langlois is a young Canadian who works for the police as a handwriting expert. She

has helped catch many criminals (罪犯) by using her special skill.

When she was only fourteen, Michele was already so interested in the differences in her school friends' handwriting that she would spend hours studying them. After finishing college she went to France for a special two-year class to learn how to analyze (分析) handwriting at the School of Police Science. On her return, she began her work for the Quebec police.

Michele says that it is impossible for people to disguise (伪装) their handwriting. She can discover most of what she needs to know simply by looking at the writing with her own eyes, but she also has machines that help her analyze different kinds of paper and ink. This knowledge is often of help to the police.

Michele also believes that handwriting is a good sign of the kind of person the writer is. "I wouldn't go out with a fellow if I didn't like his handwriting, "she says. But she adds that she fell in love with her future husband, William Smith before she studied his handwriting. It later proved to be all right, however.

The best title for the text would be______.

A.Police Science

B.Friends of Police

C.Handwriting Reader

D.Art of Handwriting

No one in my family could believe Allegra had any disability, much less one as severe as hers. To them a disability was physical, something you could see. They knew her as a happy, normal child. That's how it is with a learning disability -you don't see obvious physical symptoms.

But as she grew out of preschool, she would pretend to read-I knew she was pretending because the book was upside down. She withdrew into her own world where she could fantasize about being a ballet dancer, a Broadway actress or a figure skater. In the real world, ballet classes and music lessons led only to confusion, frustration and, ultimately, disappointment.

As for school, there was no way she could be included in a mainstream classroom. I went through every special school in New York, only to be told over and over: "She doesn't belong here." The last blow came a few months after the diagnosis, when I was at a pay phone on 72nd Street, waiting for an answer from the very last school on my list. Finally a cold voice came on-I can still hear it-and said: "I'm sorry, but we feel this isn't the place for her." I hung up and stared at the phone in tears.

I had lived my life as the daughter of Henry Ford II, and for the first time in my life I faced a problem that neither money nor position could solve. I nearly gave up, but I knew I couldn't. Without me, my daughter stood no chance of making it.

There are hundreds of TV channels (频道) in the United States. Americans get a lot of entertainment (娱乐) and information from TV. Most people probably watch it for entertainment only. For some people, however, TV is where they get the news of the day. But some new TV programs or shows put entertainment and news together.

This new kind of program in the United States is called "infotainment", which means information (info-) and entertainment (-tainment). These kinds of programs use actors to act out news stories, making the news of the day more interesting and exciting to people. The shows also use special effects.

An example of infotainment is the show "America's Most Wanted". The producers of this program get stories from real cases that the police have dealt with. In most of these cases, the police never found the person who committed the crime (犯罪). Sometimes they caught the criminal, but he or she ran away again. The people who make "America' s Most Wanted" film it in the city where the crime happened. They use actors to play the parts of all the people in the case. At the end of the story, however, they always show" mug shots", or police photographs, of the real criminals.
