听力原文: My wife and I accidentally go to a nice restaurant to eat. My wife's mother lives with us and she stays with the children. This makes it very easy for us to go out for the evening.
Last week we went to the restaurant in a new hotel. We had a wonderful meal. First, we had soup. Then Helen, my wife, had beef with carrots, and I had beef with potatoes. For dessert, I had some ice cream and Helen had fresh fruit. We had several cups of coffee after we finished eating. The food was delicious, the quantity was large, and it wasn't too expensive.
Our children don't like to eat in restaurants because they have to sit and be quiet for a long time. They would rather go to their grandmother's farm. Their grandmother -- my mother prepares everything they like. She usually has fried chicken, corn, and hot biscuits with honey. She always serves plenty of chocolate ice cream and cake for dessert.
I'm always surprised that my father doesn't weigh a lot more when I see how much he eats. But he works very hard on the farm from about 5 o'clock in the morning until it gets dark in the evening.
When my parents visit us in the city, we usually take them to a restaurant; I know they enjoy it, but my father always eats something else after he gets home. The quantity may be large in the restaurant, but it is still not large enough for a hungry farmer.
Who stays with the children when the speaker goes out?
A.His mother.
B.His wife's mother.
C.The servant.
听力原文:W: Have you been to the new sports centre yet?
M: I certainly have. I joined the fitness club on Monday and I met another squash player there. We're going for a game this evening.
W: I signed up for the aerobics class, but I haven't checked out their other facilities yet.
M: Go to their fruit juice bar. They do snacks too. The staff there are really friendly and you can meet other people who go to the sports centre.
W: Which snacks do you recommend? I suppose they must be really healthy—not the kind of food I usually see you eating!
M: That's true. I like the carrot cake best. By the way, they offer tennis classes at the centre. Didn't you say you were interested in learning?
W: Yes, I did. Are they expensive?
M: They're cheaper than I've seen anywhere else, mainly because they teach you in small groups, not individually. You can get individual coaching if you prefer.
W: I'm happy with a small group. I mean, I want to learn just to play for fun, not in any competitions or anything.
M: Why don't we go there together now, unless you've got something else on? We can have a little look around and you can buy me a nice healthy snack.
W: Well, I am free as it happens, but why should I buy you a nice healthy snack?
M: You did say last week that you thought I should try to eat a little more healthily.

My parents married on September 14,1940, alter a brief dating. She was nearly 30 and knew it was time to 'start a family. The handsome, well-educated man wh0 came by the, office where she worked looked like a good bet. He was attracted by her figure, her blue eyes. The romance didn't last long.
Seeds of difference grew almost immediately. She liked to travel; he hated the thought. He loved golf; she did not. He was a Republican, she a loyal Democrat. They fought at the bridge table, at the dinner table, over money, over the perceived shortcomings of their respective in-laws.
There was a hope that they would change once they retired, and the angry winds did calm somewhat, but what remained changed itself into bright, hard bitterness. "I always thought we'd..." my mother would begin, before launching into a precise listing of my father's faults. The complaints were recited so often, I can repeat them by heart today. As he listened, my father would say angry threats and curses in a low voice.
It wasn't the happiest marriage, but as their 602 anniversary(纪念日)approached, my sister and I decided to throw a party. Sixty years was a long time, after alit why not try to make the best of things? We'd provide the cake, the balloons, the toasts, and they'd follow one rule: no fighting.
The agreement was honored. We had a wonderful day. When we thought back, we found it was an important celebration, because soon after, things began to change for my parents.

M: He really should try to gain some weight. He's probably not eating enough. Have you talked to him about it?
W: Yes, but well...Noticed Tim?
M: Oh, he has us worried, too. He has really been getting much too fat. He needs to lose about 70 pounds now.
W: Yeah. That's a lot of weight to lose. But if he keeps eating too much cake and candy, there's no way to...
M: Well, he should go on a diet. Eat more vegetables and fruits, less sweets and meat.
W: I keep telling him to, but he doesn't listen to me.
M: Maybe Mark should talk to him.
W: Maybe. Did I tell you that Mark needs two packs of cigarettes a day?
M: Hmmm, that's probably why he's so thin. You know, if he gave up, he would gain weight. I know he would. I put on a lot of weight when I stopped years ago.
W: Yes, we should try to persuade him to stop. But Tim has another problem—even worse. He drinks soda. Soda for lunch, dinner, after dinner.
M: Well, Mark never likes that. I think Tim does need exercise.
W: But he's so lazy, never plays any sports. And whenever I tell him to take a walk, he just gets angry.
M: Mark doesn't exercise, either. He just works so hard. No time to exercise or relax. I wish he could find a nice girlfriend to relax and have fun with.
W: Tim has a girlfriend. But she can't cook!
M: Well, they're 30-year-old boys, and they just don't think they need our advice anymore.

Conversation Two
W: I'm so worried about Mark these days. Ever since he moved into his apartment, he has been losing weight. He really doesn't look well at all.
M: He should try to gain some weight. He is probably not eating enough.
W: Well, anyway, how is Tim these days?
M: Tim? Oh, Tim has been worried, too. He is really getting much too fat. He needs to lose about 75 pounds now.
W: That's a lot of weight to lose. What does Tim eat?
M: I really don't know. But I am sure he is eating too much cake and candy.
W: Well, did I tell you Mark doesn't eat any meat now? He only eats vegetables and fruit.
M : That's probably why he is so thin. Does he smoke?
W: Does he smoke? About two packs of cigarettes a day. That's my son, a smoking vegetarian.
M: En, if he stops smoking, he would gain weight. I know he would. Tim put on a lot of weight when he stopped smoking.
W : Does Tim play any sports?
M: Play sports? Oh, my! I keep telling him, "Tim, dear, you really need to get some exercise." And you know what he does? He just gets angry.
W: I know Mark doesn't take exercise, either.
M: Did you tell him?
W: Of course, but you know what it is like being a mother of a 13-year-old boy. They just don't think they need your advice anymore. I wish Mark could find a nice girlfriend to relax and have fun with. I heard Tim has a girlfriend at last. That's wonderful.
