听力原文: The Mother Goose Stories, so well known to children all over the world, are commonly said to have been written by a little old woman for her grandchildren. According to some people, she lived in Boston, and her real name was Elizabeth Vergoose. Her son-in-law, a printer named Thomas Fleet, was supposed to have published the famous stories and poems for small children in 1719. However, no copy of this book has ever been found, and most scholars doubt the troth of this story-- and doubt, moreover, that Mother Goose was ever a real parson. They point out that the name is a direct translation of the French "Mere I'Ohe." In 1679 the Frenchman Charles Perrault published the first book in which this name was used. The collection contains eight tales, including "Sleeping Beauty", "Cinderell," and "Puss in Boots." But Perrault did not originate these stories; they were already quite popular in his day, and he only collected them.

(27)

A.Thomas Fleet published the Mother Goose Stories.

B.Elizabeth Vergoose wrote the first Mother Goose Stories.

C.The Mother Goose Stories were translated into French.

听力原文: Penury was what people called a mystery man. We had known him for over seven years, ever since he became a member of our modest club, but he had a way of keeping his private life to himself in all but the unessential details. We knew his address, though he never invited us to his home, and his age, too, but only unimportant matters of this kind. It seemed that he did not have to work for a living as we did, in our various ways. He had once hinted about an inheritance on which he managed to live comfortably. He was not, however, a man of luxurious habits: he was not especially well dressed and he did not even have a car. At the age of forty-five he was still a bachelor though. Since marriage was not a subject he ever discussed, we had no means of finding out whether he regretted not having a wife.

Penury disappeared suddenly from our circle and shortly afterwards we came to learn the first really solid facts about our mystery man. From reports that appeared in the newspapers, together with photographs of the man who was without doubt, our Mr. Penury, it was revealed that he was the most accomplished burglar in the London area; and that he had practiced this profession for many years, until he was arrested and sent to prison.

(27)

A.Because nobody knew his address.

B.Because nobody knew his age.

C.Because Penury's private life was a secret.

D.Because Penury was still a bachelor at the age of forty-five.

听力原文: The city's museums are much more than cultural centers. They are major contributors to the city's economy. Not only do they provide jobs for the people living in the city, but the museums also attract tourists who spend money in hotels, restaurants and stores. Each year, mass motoring tours visit our museums and spend millions of dollars in the city, but only a fraction of that money is ever seen by the museums. This, in addition to recent cuts in government aid, has hurt the museums. And museums are in trouble, though we can all help by increasing our contributions and encouraging others to support our cultural institutions. We should help the museums and help ourselves too. This message is by Crocker Bank, who is interested in keeping New York financially healthy.

What is the main thought expressed in this appeal?

A.The museums are a financial success.

B.People are leaving New York rapidly.

C.The public should support cultural institutions.

D.Crocker Bank wants new depositors.

(27)

听力原文:W: Have you ever been to New Orleans?

M: No. What is it like?

W: It's one of the most interesting cities in the United States. It has a French Quarter, with narrow streets and little shops. Many of the shops and restaurants are French.

M: There's a lot of jazz music in New Orleans, isn't there?

W: Yes. You hear wonderful jazz there. New Orleans and San Francisco are my two favorite cities. Have you been to San Francisco?

M: No. What is it like?

W: It has lovely views, and one of the most beautiful bridges in the world—the Golden Bridge. It's a very hilly city. The hills are in the middle of the town, so you have to walk up and down hills when you go anywhere. When you arrive, your car needs good brakes.

M: Do you have to drive? Can't you take buses?

W: Well, most people who visit San Francisco ride in the cable cars. A cable car goes on tracks, and a strong cable pulls it up the hills.

M: That doesn't sound very safe.

W: Don't worry. Hundreds of people ride in cable cars every day.

What do we have in the French Quarter?

A.Many French people.

B.Narrow streets and little old shops.

C.Many foreign restaurants.

D.Jazz music bands.
