Read the sentences and choose the correct ones. Brenda has just moved to a new school and has made a new friend, Paula. They are sitting in a snack bar after school talking. Paula asks Brenda," Tell me about your family." Brenda: "My family is a rather small one, with only three people, my father, my mother and me. My father is a doctor. My mother is a teacher. My mother is very patient and understanding while my father is not very patient. He is often quite loud and wants things to happen at once. We love each other very much. Although sometimes we might fight about things we feel strongly about, very soon we will change the subject and discuss something else. We're a happy family. How about you? Paula: "I have a big family with seven people, my grandparents, parents, two older brothers and me. We all live together in a big house. It is often very noisy in our house, especially at dinner time. Grandfather has a loud voice. But it is nice having my grandparents living with us. That means that when I come home from school there is always somebody there for me. We take care of one another, share housework, and often communicate all together. My brothers help me with problems I have with homework and I help them with problems they have with girls."

A、Brenda's father is patient.

B、Brenda is patient.

C、Brenda's mother is a patient.

Read the following 3 passages, and choose the right thesis for each passage: Passage 1: TV is our favorite way of relaxing. After a stressful day it’s restful to just put our feet up and enjoy a favorite program. And, of course, TV is entertainment for all ages. Movies, video games, and special cable offerings, as well as regular network programming, provide a choice of amusements for the whole family. TV is also deservedly popular for being informative. When history is being made—for example, during the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001—we are often there, thanks to TV. Perhaps the most important benefit of television’s nature programs, it teaches in a colorful and interesting fashion.

Read the case and answer the following five questions.: On June 15, 1997, Company A sent out an order to Company B, requested Company B’s reply before July 10 ,1997. At the beginning of July in1997, the price of ordered goods was marked down sharply on international market, then Company A informed Company B saying: “we cancel the price of the previous order, if you are willing to reduce the price by 20% then the duration of offer will extend until 20July”. After receiving the notice, company Bwrote back promptly on July 3rd and disagreed to price cutting, and accepted the previous offer. Normally, the letter could reach Company Aby July 8th, but Company A was only able to receive it on July 15th due to the labor strike in the post office and Company A replied immediately, saying: “the first order is already revoked, your acceptance is void”. Company B insisted that the first offer was irrevocable. Company A sent another reply claiming that Company B`s acceptance was delayed and therefore the contract does not exist. According to the Contract Law of China: Assuming that Company B did not, on its July 3rd reply, express acceptance to the original offer, then:

A、A、 Company B is still entitled to receipt the offer as long as the notice of acceptance reaches Company A before July 10th

B、B、 Company B is still entitled to receipt the offer as long as the notice of acceptance reaches Company A before July 20th

C、C、 Even if Company B did not receipt the offer before July 10th, it can still receipt it before July 20th by 20% price-cut

D、D、 If Company B did not receipt the original offer before July 10th, it can no longer receipt the offer

I. Read the following statements and choose the correct answer. There is no denying that students should learn something about how computers work, just as we expect them at least to understand that the internal-combustion engine (内燃机) has something to do with burning fuel, expanding gases and pistons (活塞) being driven. For people should have some basic idea of how the things that they use do what they do. Further, students might be helped by a course that considers the computer’s impact on society. But that is not what is meant by computer literacy. For computer literacy is not a form of literacy (读写能力); it is a trade skill that should not be taught as a liberal art. Learning how to use a computer and learning how to program one are two distinct activities. A case might be made that the competent citizens of tomorrow should free themselves from their fear of computers. But this is quite different from saying that all ought to know how to program one. Leave that to people who have chosen programming as a career. While programming can be lots of fun, and while our society needs some people who are experts at it, the same is true of auto repaid and violin-making. Learning how to use a computer is not that difficult, and it gets easier all the time as programs become more “user-friendly”. Let us assume that in the future everyone is going to have to know how to use a computer to be a competent citizen. What does the phrase “learning to use a computer” mean? It sounds like “learning to drive a car”, that is, it sounds as if there is some set of definite skills that, once acquired, enable one to use a computer. In fact, “learning to use a computer” is much more like “learning to play a game”, but learning the rules of one game may not help you play a second game, whose rules may not be the same. There is no such a thing as teaching someone how to use a computer. One can only teach people to use this or that program and generally that is easily accomplished. 3. Learning to use a computer is getting easier all the time because ________.

A、A) programs are becoming less complicated

B、B) programs are designed to be convenient to users

C、C) programming is becoming easier and easier

D、D) programs are becoming readily available to computer users
