Questions are based on the following passage.

"Innovative" does not necessarily mean radical or expensive, nor do the best ideas comefrom the top. A woman on the shop floor at Ford suggested putting symbols of different en-gine parts so that drivers would not need a manual to do something simple, such as checkthe oil. It proved so popular it is now common practice.

Ford"s open policy towards employees" ideas "generates tens of thousands of e-mailsa month", according to Ed Sketch, the director of training and development in Americaand Europe. The company has even employed people to sift through them. Money-savingbrainwaves are rewarded with big bonuses or a new car.

Companies might want to recruit innovative thinkers, but do they really want noncon-formists on board? Peer Granger, the head of Insight Training, which runs innovation work-shops for companies, believes that the risk of not having them on board is greater. "It"s notlike the old days, where companies could churn out the same old product year after yearand customers would buy them. It" companies don"t innovate, they die. Just look at the highstreet. And almost by definition, you have to be difficult in order to innovate because it isabout challenging the status quo."

The problem is that innovators are usually seen as trouble-makers and are often the first peo-ple to go if a company is downsizing. There"s such a blame culture that people are scared to stepoutside the norms. In our workshops we show people the value of breaking rules."

However, Granger thinks that difficult, innovative people would crumble without theirconformist colleagues. "Crikey, you need the other people to say, "Hang on, maybe thisisn"t a good idea", which can save you a lot of hassle later. And turning an idea into realitymay involve office politics, which difficult people may not be good at."

The example of the woman whose suggestion was popular indicates that ___________. 查看材料

A.everything that is beneficial to people can be said to be innovative

B.even the common people can put forward an innovative suggestion

C.people are easy to accept new things that are helpful to them

D.the ideas from the top sometimes are not as good as those from ordinary people

Passage Two Questions 6 to 10 are based on the following passage. On Jan. 9, 2007, Steve Jobs formally announced Apple’s “revolutionary mobile phone” — a device that combined the functionality of an iPod, phone and Internet communication into a single unit, navigated by touch. It was a huge milestone in the development of smartphones, which are now owned by a majority of American adults and are increasingly common across the globe. As smartphones have multiplied, so have questions about their impact on how we live and how we work. Often the advantages of convenient, mobile technology are both obvious and taken for granted, leaving more subtle topics for concerned discussion: Are smartphones disturbing children’s sleep? Is an inability to get away from work having a negative impact on health? And what are the implications for privacy? But today, on the 10th anniversary of the iPhone, let’s take a moment to consider a less obvious advantage: the potential for smartphone technology to revolutionize behavioral science. That’s because, for the first time in human history, a large proportion of the species is in continuous contact with technology that can record key features of an individual’s behavior and environment. Researchers have already begun to use smartphones in social scientific research, either to query people regularly as they engage in their normal lives or to record activity using the device’s built-in sensors. These studies are confirming, challenging and extending what’s been found using more traditional approaches, in which people report how they behaved in real life or participate in relatively short and artificial laboratory-based tasks. Such studies are just first steps. As more data are collected and methods for analysis improve, researchers will be in a better position to identify how different experiences, behaviors and environments relate to each other and evolve over time, with the potential to improve people’s productivity and wellbeing in a variety of domains. Beyond revealing population-wide patterns, the right combination of data and analysis can also help individuals identify unique characteristics of their own behavior, including conditions that could indicate the need for some form of intervention — such as an unusual increase in behaviors that signal a period of depression. Smartphone-based data collection comes at an appropriate time in the evolution of psychological science. Today, the field is in transition, moving away from a focus on laboratory studies with undergraduate participants towards more complex, real-world situations studied with more diverse groups of people. Smartphones offer new tools for achieving these ambitions, providing rich data about everyday behaviors in a variety of contexts. So here’s another way in which smartphones might transform the way we live and work: by offering insights into human psychology and behavior and, thus, supporting smarter social science. 10. What do we learn about current psychological studies?

A、They are going through a period of painful transition.

B、They are increasingly focused on real-life situations.

C、They are conducted in a more rigorous manner.

D、They are mainly targeted towards undergraduates.

•Read the following passage below about Chicago.

•For questions 23 - 28, choose the correct answer.

•Mark one letter (A, B or C) on your Answer Sheet.

Chicago

Chicago, lying in the east of the USA, is the rather young American city. It was almost completely rebuilt after the Great Fire of 1871. One's first impression of the city may include streams of cars running to-and-fro on the highways, skyscrapers and the wide green water of Lake Michigan, which lies to the northeast of the city. The area of the city is over 228 square miles with a population of about 3 million.

The climate of Chicago on the whole is almost the same as that of Beijing with rather hot days in summer, colorful and fresh days in fall and icy but often clear days in winter. The spring in Chicago is a little changeable in temperature. For instance, I saw a snowfall in early April this year while some of the flowers were already in full bloom. Chicago is also famous for its frequent strong winds, and as a result has got the name of "the Windy City".

Chicago is a rather young American city because.

A.it was completely rebuilt in the late 19 century

B.there are smaller areas in Chicago than in Beijing

C.its population is in fact rather small

Passage One

Questions 46 to 50 are based on the following passage.

Living in an urban area with green spaces has a long-lasting positive impact on people&39;s mental well-being, a study has suggested. UK researchers found moving to a green space had a sustained positive effect, unlike pay rises or promotions, which only provided a short-term boost. Co-author Mathew White, from the European Centre for Environment and Human Health at the University of Exeter, UK, explained that the study showed people living in greener urban areas were displaying fewer signs of depression or anxiety. "There could be a number of reasons,” he said, “for example, people do many things to make themselves happier: they strive for promotion or pay rises, or they get married. But the trouble with all those things is that within six months to a year, people are back to their original baseline levels of well-being. So, these things are not sustainable; they don’t make us happy in the long term. We found that for some lottery(彩票)winners who had won more than £500,000 the positive effect was definitely there, but after six months to a year, they were back to the baseline."Dr. White said his team wanted to see whether living in greener urban areas had a lasting positive effect on people&39;s sense of well-being or whether the effect also disappeared after a period of time. To do this, the team used data from the British Household Panel Survey compiled by the University of Essex.Explaining what the data revealed, he said: "What you see is that even after three years, mental health is still better, which is unlike many of the other things that we think will make us happy." He observed that people living in green spaces were less stressed, and less stressed people made more sensible decisions and communicated better

With a growing body of evidence establishing a link between urban green spaces and a positive impact on human well-being, Dr. White said, “There’s growing interest among public policy officials, but the trouble is who funds it. What we really need at a policy level is to decide where the money will come from to help support good quality local green spaces.”

According to one study, what do green spaces do to people?

A.Improve their work efficiency

B.Add to their sustained happiness

C.Help them build a positive attitude towards life

D.Lessen their concerns about material well-being

What does Dr. White say people usually do to make themselves happier?A.Earn more money

B.Gain fame and popularity

C.Settle in an urban area

D.Live in a green environment

What does Dr. White try to find out about living in a greener urban area?A.How it affects different people

B.How strong its effect is

C.How long its positive effect lasts

D.How it benefits physically

What did Dr. White research reveal about people living in a green environment?A.Their stress was more apparent than real

B.Their decisions required less deliberation

C.Their memories were greatly strengthened

D.Their communication with others improved

According to Dr. White, what should the government do to build more green spaces in cities?A.Find financial support

B.Improve urban planning

C.Involve local residents in the effort

D.Raise public awareness of the issue
