One day the weather was fine. There wasn't a cloud in the sky and the sun was very warm. The landlord was walking along a river with his friends, when, all of a sudden, he slipped and fell into it. He cried, “Help! Help!” One of his friends held out his hand and said, “Give me your hand and I will pull you out.” The landlord's head went under the water and then came up again, but he did not give his hand to his friends. Then another of his friends tried but the same thing happened.
Just then a farmer came over and saw all this. He knew the landlord very well. He said to the others, “Let me try.” He held out his hand and said to the landlord, “Take my hand and I will pull you out.” Hearing this, the landlord took the farmer's hand, and in a minute the farmer pulled the landlord out of the water.
All the others got very surprised at this and asked the farmer, “Why did he give his hand to you but not to us?” The farmer said, “You don't know your friend very well, When you say 'give' to him, he does nothing, but when you say 'take' he takes.”

Hand in the Report in 15 Days A Chinese young man worked at a company in the United States. One day he was asked by his American supervisor to come to his office for a report, as the Chinese was thought of as a competent candidate for it. The American supervisor said to the Chinese employee: "Since the report is so important, I hope that you can finish it on time. But just tell me how long it will take you to finish this report?" The Chinese answered, “ I do not know. But how long should it take?” The American said, "You are in the best position to analyze time requirements.” Then the Chinese replied, “20 days.” Then the American said, “ Take 15. It is agreed you will do it in 15 days." In fact the report needed 30 days of regular work. So the Chinese worked day and night, but at the end of the 15th day, he still needed one more day’s work. But he was asked to hand in his report by the American supervisor, “Where is the report?" the American supervisor asked. The Chinese replied, “It will be ready tomorrow.” “But we agreed that it would be ready today.” The American said firmly. The next day the Chinese employee handed in his resignation. It is easy to show that intelligence is to some extent something we are born with, The closer the blood relationship between two people, the most closer they are likely to be in intelligence. Thus if we take two unrelated people at random from the population, it is likely that their degrees of intelligence will be completely different. If on the other hand we take two identical twins, they will very likely be as intelligent as each other. Relations like brothers and sisters, parents and children, usually have similar intelligence, and this clearly suggests that intelligence depends on birth.
Imagine now that we take two identical twins and put them in different environments, we might send one, for example, to a university and the other to a factory where the work is boring. We would soon find differences in intelligence developing, and this indicates that environment as well as birth plays a part. This conclusion is also suggested by the fact that people who live in close contact with each other, but who are related at all, are likely to have similar degrees of intelligence.
The writer is in favor of the view that man's intelligence is given to him ______.
A.at birth
B.through education
C.both at birth and through education
D.neither at birth nor through education
听力原文: The young executive weaving through the traffic in his BMW, one hand on the steering wheel, the other holding a telephone, has become a familiar sight on our city streets. It doesn't look safe and it isn't. It is not just that the serous discussion he is having is distracting. There is also the tangled cable by the gear lever and the fact that he's only got one hand free if someone suddenly steps off the kerb.
Car phone have been available in Britain since 1959 but have only become common since January 1985 when two "cellular" systems were introduced. These are licensed by the government and take advantage of new technology and ultra-high radio frequencies. About 2500 subscribers were expected in the first years of operation but the actual figure for 1985 was more than double that. It is estimated that 75000 cellular phones were then in use, and there were well over 100000 by the end of 1986.
The Highway Code has been rewritten to include a warning that driver should not use hand-held telephone when the car is moving, because the drivers may concentrate more on the phone-work than the road ahead. Authority warns that those who drive and talk into a telephone will be prosecuted.

One day I tried an experiment: changing hands while eating rice with chopsticks. Being a right-hander, I hoped it would not be too hard for me to take the food with my left hand. Soon after I started, I realized I didn't know what I was doing. So I moved in front of a big mirror in order that I could observe my actions clearly. Looking at myself in the mirror, I found I looked like a man who had never used chopsticks. I became more and more nervous and finally I had to give it up.
My experience shows, being forced to use the hand one Is not used to affects a person's mind. So we should not try to change a left-hander. Some people still think being left-handed, is bad, but lucidly this idea is changing.
Whether a person is right-handed or left-handed results from ______.
A.the education of the parents
B.the education of the teachers
C.the practice of oneself
D.the example of the friends
【C1】
A.Obviously enough
B.Obvious
C.Strangely enough
D.Strange enough
