听力原文: When I was six, Dad brought home a dog one day, who was called "Brownie". My
brothers and I all loved Brownie and did different things with her. One of us would walk her, another would feed her, then there were baths, playing catch and many other games. Brownie, in return, loved each and every one of us. One thing that most touched my heart was that she would go to whoever was sick and just be with them. We always felt better when she was around. One day, as I was getting her food, she chewed up one of Dads shoes, which had to be thrown away in the end. I knew Dad would be mad and I had to let her know what she did was wrong. When I looked at her and said "Bad girl", she looked down at the ground and then went and hid. I saw a tear in her eyes. Brownie turned out to be more than just our family pet. She went everywhere with us. People would stop and ask if they could pet her. Of course shed let anyone pet her. She was just the most lovable dog. There were many times when wed be out walking and a small child would come over and pull on her hair. She never barked or tried to get away. The funny thing is she would smile. This frightened people because they thought she was showing her teeth. Far from the truth, she loved everyone. Now many years have passed since Brownie died of old age. I still miss the days when she was with us. Questions 16 to 18 are based on the passage you have just heard. 16. What would Brownie do when someone was ill in the family? 17. What do we learn about Brownie from the passage? 18. Why does the speaker say that Brownie was more than just a family pet?17.

A.She disliked the speaker"s dad.

B.She felt scary for her mistake.

C.She loved playing hide-and-seek.

D.She would eat anything when hungry.

I was desperately nervous about becoming car-free. But eight months ago our elderly people
carrier was hit by a passing vehicle and the damage was so bad it had to be written off. No problem, I thought: well buy another. But the insurance payout didnt even begin to cover the costs of buying a new car—I worked out that, with the loan wed need plus petrol, insurance, parking permits and tax, we could easily be looking at around £600 a month. And thats when I had my fancy idea. Why not just give up having a car at all? The more I thought about it, the more sensible it seemed. I live in London. We have a railway station behind our house, a tube station 10 minutes walk away, and a bus stop at the end of the street. A new car club had just opened in our area, and one of its shiny little red Peugeots was parked nearby If any family in Britain could live without a car, I reasoned, then surely we were that family? But my new car-free passion, sadly, wasnt shared by my family. My teenage daughters were horrified. What would their friends think about our family being "too poor to afford a car"?(I wasnt that bothered what they thought, and I suggested the girls could take the same approach.) My friends, too, were astonished at our plan. What would happen if someone got seriously ill overnight and needed to go to hospital?(an ambulance?)How would the children get to and from their many events?(buses and trains?)People smiled indulgently, as though this was another of my mad ideas, before saying they were sure Id soon realize that a car wasnt a luxury, it was a necessity. Eight months on, I wonder whether well ever own a car again. The idea that you "have" to own a car, especially if you live in a city, is all in the mind. I live— and many other city-dwellers do too—in a community that has never been better served by public transport, and yet car ownership has never been higher. We worry about rising car costs, but wed be better off asking something much more basic. Do I really need a car? The answer turned out to be no, and Im a lot richer because I dared to ask the question.

The author decided to live a car-free life______.

A.after his car was damaged beyond repair

B.after he was hurt in a terrible car accident

C.because public transport was easily accessible

D.because the traffic jam was too much for him

听力原文: Well, I feel it is very important for families to have regular meals together. One of my good child memories was dinner with my parents and two sisters. Because my husband and I both work and our three children are busy with their studies, we seldom had a chance to get together as a family. But we thought it would be possible for us to sit down and enjoy meals together every week. First we try setting three fixed days: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. But almost everyone was unhappy. Then my son has the idea that every one told me his or her most convenient days and I would choose the two best days. For a while, the children were still unhappy with the idea. They said they would rather spend the time with their friends playing sports. Gradually, though, they began to see these evenings together as interesting, and helpful. We loved a lot. We made plans for trips. We discussed each other's problems. After a couple of months, anyone who had to miss a family meal felt regretful. And now, we all feel that we have been able to build much stronger relations within the family than we had before

How many people are there in the woman's family?
