Our group are all going to visit the chimps in the1. Jane has studied these animals for many years and helped people2how much they3like humans.4 a family of chimps wake up is our first activity of the day. This means going back to a place 5we left the chimp family6 in a tree the night before. Everybody sits and waits while the animals in the group begin to wake up and move. Then we follow as the family begins to 7into the forest. Most of the time, chimps either feed or clean each other as a way of showing love in their family. Jane warns us that everybody will be very tired and dirty by the afternoon and she is right. But the evening makes it all8. The mother chimp and her babies play in the tree and, after they come into her arms, we see them go to sleep together in their9for the night. Nobody before has fully understand chimp behaviour. Jane spent many years10and recording their daily activities. She did not study at a university but she was determined to work with animals in their own environment. When she arrived at Gombe in 1960, it was unusual for a woman to live in the forest. Only after her mother came to help her for the first few months was she allowed to begin her project. Her work changed the way people think about chimps. For example, one thing she11was that chimps hunt and eat meat. Until then everyone had thought chimps ate only fruit and nuts. She actually observed chimps as a group hunting a monkey and then eating it. She also discovered how chimps communicate with each other and her study of their body language helped her12their social system For forty years Jane Goodall has been helping the rest of the world understand and13the life of these animals. She has14for them to be left in the wild and not used for15or advertisements. She has set up special places where they can live safely. Her life is very busy but as she says: “Once I stop, it all comes crowding in and I remember the chimps in laboratories. It’s terrible. It affects me when I watch the wild chimps. I say to myself, ‘Aren’t they lucky?’ And then think about small chimps in cages though they have done nothing wrong. Once you have seen that you can never forget…” She has achieved everything she wanted to do: working with animals in their own environment, gaining a doctor’s degree for studies, showing that women can live in the forest as men can. She inspires those who want to cheer the achievements of women. |
SOX is an alternative(1)for XML.It is useful for reading and creating XML content in a(2).editor.It is then easily transformed into proper XML.SOX was created because developers can spend a great deal oftime with raw XML.For many ofus, thepopular XML(3)have not reached a point where their tree views, tables and forms can completely substitute for the underlying(4)languagE.This is not surprising when one considers that developers still use a text view, albeit enhanced, for editing other languages such as Java)SOX uses(5)to represent the structure of an XML document, which eliminates the need for closing tags and a number of quoting devices. The result is surprisingly clear.

Advances in science and technology and other areas of society in the last 100 years have transformed the way we live as well as postponing the day we die. There is no better time to be alive than now. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion? Model Response The last hundred years have seen rapid and dramatic developments in many areas, including medicine, transport, manufacturing and communications. Over that period our lives have changed in ways that our parents and grandparents could only have dreamed of, but the question we should ask is whether the world is a better place to live in as a result. There have clearly been many benefits. Advances in medical science have brought cures for once fatal diseases and this has significantly extended the lifespan we can expect. Information technology has allowed us to contact friends or colleagues worldwide at the click of a mouse. We can now gather information, manage our bank account or shop without having to step outside our home. In addition, labour-saving devices such as washing machines and microwave ovens have made everyday tasks much easier. However, the fact that life has improved in so many ways does not mean that all the developments have been positive. For example, the emphasis on acquiring the latest technology has made people increasingly materialistic. We also tend to lead more isolated lives than our parents did, with less concern for the elderly and other vulnerable people without the support they need. Among other serious problems we face are the drug culture, and the ever-present threat of terrorism. In summary, we have made great progress over the last hundred years but there are still many important issues to tackle. This may well be a better time to live than any previous age but hopefully the future will be better still. (268w) What approach does the essay follow?
