听力原文:W: Oh, Dan. Come on in. Ive just graded the midterm exams for your class. You had
one of the highest scores. So, what can I do for you? M: Dr Wilson, Im really worried about the paper due tomorrow — you know that case study. So far I havent done a thing beyond gathering the data, and I have two more midterms tomorrow morning. I was hoping youd give me an extension till Friday. W: Well, Dan, when I assigned the paper during the first week of the semester, I emphasised that late papers would be punished. Youre free to turn in your case study late, but Ill have to lower your grade for it. If I gave you extension, it wouldnt be fair to the other students. Youre a good writer, Dan. It shouldnt take that much time to turn your data into a solid report. M: But I havent even made my outline yet, and Im having a hard time with the computer analysis of the data. W: It sounds to me like youre just putting it off. M: I really am working on it, but I just cant get it finished and Ive got to study for two other tests by tomorrow afternoon! But I might be able to get it done after class...maybe...by midnight tomorrow. W: Hmm…I didnt specify what time the paper was due. But Im leaving campus at 4:00 p.m. tomorrow, and they lock this building at 11:00 p.m. M: Still, if its under your door when you get in Thursday morning, you cant say I turned it in late, right? W: Right. Questions 13 to 15 are based on the conversation you have just heard. 13. What does Dan want Dr Wilson to do? 14. What is one reason Dan gives for his problem? 15. What work has Dan already completed on the paper?13.

A.His computer isn"t working.

B.He has to study for exams.

C.He didn"t understand the assignment.

D.He won"t be on campus until Thursday.

听力原文:M: Do you know what happened to me today? I was so embarrassed. W: What? M: Wel
l, Dr Browns class finished ten minutes early, so I went to the library between classes. I knew I didnt have much time, but I wanted to get those books on the Industrial Revolution. I looked them up in the card catalogue and went right to the stacks and found them. So I put them in my book bag and headed back toward the door. Then it happened. The exit gate in front of the door wouldnt open, and a guard immediately warned me that I hadnt checked out my books. He thought I was trying to steal them. W: That must have been embarrassing. But why didnt the exit gate open? M: I asked them that. It seems the books in the library are all magnetically coded, and when you check them out, the librarian behind the desk demagnetises them, then the exit gate will open. W: How interesting! I still dont quite understand how they do it, though. Ill have to go to the library and see it for myself. Questions 13 to 15 are based on the conversation you have just heard. 13. Why did the man decide to go to the library? 14. According to the man, what happens to all the books in the library? 15. According to the man, what does the librarian behind the desk do?13.

A.They are checked out.

B.They are specially coded.

C.They are inspected by the guard.

D.They are marked with colored labels.

Educational philosophy has changed a great deal in the 50 years since I was in school. B
ack then, for example, I had the highest grades in school, but many of my teachers went out of their way to cut me down because I wouldnt get conceit. Aside from【M1】______ the debated question of whether that worked, the point is that【M2】______ today, the educational establishment has the opposite philosophy. They tend to tell all kids they are smart. I have seen elementary schools that most students are selected as "Honors Students."【M3】______ Research clearly shows that if students learn best from their【M4】______ mistakes depend on a students self-perception. Research by Carol【M5】______ Dweck and colleagues at Stanford demonstrated that the students who are most likely to learn from their mistakes are those who dont think of themselves as smart as such and smart enough to get【M6】______ smarter. They have a "growth mindset," a belief system they can【M7】______ get better if they will just invest in the time and effort. In one of【M8】______ the groups experiments, half of students were repeatedly praised【M9】______ for "being smart," and these students were not good at learning from mistakes. It is not clear why. Maybe they thought the problem was in the learning material, not in them. The other half of students were praised for effort and improvement and these students got better and made few mistakes. Several months later,【M10】______ all students repeated a standardized test, and the "smart" students scores dropped 20%, while the "growth mindset" students scored 30% higher.

听力原文:W: I often read two newspapers. Washington Post and The Sun. What about you? M:
I will buy the newspaper whose headlines catch my eyes in the front page. Do you buy the two newspapers everyday? W: Yes, that way Im sure not to miss my favourite sections. Doesnt the size of the daily paper surprise you? M: Yes, it certainly does. The newspaper staff— the reporters, writers, editors, and linotype operators — must be busy continuously. They need a large circulation to support such a staff, dont they? W: Im sure they do. Of course, much of a newspapers income comes from advertisements. M: Thats true. You try to read the whole paper, dont you? W: No. I just read the parts that interest me. I glance at the headlines, but I read the sports page and the business section carefully. Do you read those? M: No, but I do read the editorials and the news section. You saw the article about the earthquake in Japan, didnt you? W: Yes. That was a terrible disaster. Do you think newspapers should print stories like that? M: Certainly they should! Theyre part of the news of the day and people want to know about them. Dont you agree? W: Yes, I suppose disasters are news, too. It seems to me that newspapers would be more pleasant to read if they had a large society section and more comic strips. Dont you like to read articles about celebrations and happy events? M: Yes, I enjoy reading them. But since you dont like to read unhappy news, why do you subscribe to two newspapers? If I were you, I wouldnt read a newspaper at all. Questions 9 to 12 are based on the conversation you have just heard. 9. What sort of newspaper will the man buy? 10. What surprises the speakers? 11. Which part of the newspaper does the woman usually read? 12. Why doesnt the woman enjoy reading about disasters in the daily newspaper?9.

A.The size of the daily newspaper.

B.The staff of the daily newspaper.

C.The circulation of the daily newspaper.

D.The advertisements in the daily newspaper.

If we had to rely on only five senses for survival, we would be in very sad shape indeed.
We wouldnt know up from down. We wouldnt know when to eat or drink. We wouldnt know what our muscles were doing or what position our limbs were in. We wouldnt know when our body was damaged because we wouldnt feel pain. We might freeze to death without even a shiver, or overheat without a drop of sweat. The five senses—touch, taste, smell, hearing and sight—respond only to stimulation from the outside world, but the inside world of our bodies must also receive and respond to important messages. Our internal senses keep us alive and enable us to use our external senses. In effect, the internal senses tell our brains how to run our bodies. Hunger or thirst registers in a part of the brain called the hypothalamus(丘脑下部), when a lack of food chemicals are detected in the blood. Another internal sense that controls our balance is maintained by three fluid-filled loops in the inner ear. Changes in position and gravity affect the motion of this liquid and cause changes in the brain. A sense called kinesthesia(肌肉运动知觉)lets us know the relative positions of parts of our bodies. Even our breathing is caused by a sense that identifies an overabundance of carbon dioxide and a lack of oxygen in the blood. No one has been able to count the number of internal senses. The presence of delicate internal senses shows just how marvelously complex we human beings are.

This passage deal mostly with the______.

A.internal senses

B.sense of balance

C.five senses

D.brain"s function

The man was Brian Nichols, 33. He was suspected of killing three people on March 11 and later of killing a federal(联邦的)agent. The local police were searching for him. Nichols tied Smith up with tape, but released her after she repeatedly begged him not to take her life. "I told him if he hurt me, my little girl wouldnt have a mummy," she said. Smith said, "I basically just talked to him and tried to gain his trust. " Smith said she asked Nichols why he chose her.
