听力原文:W: Hi, Mark, how is it going?

M: Well, not so great.

W: What's wrong?

M: I've got a big problem with the poetry course that's required for my major.

W: Is that all filled up?

M: No, no, there's plenty of room, but there is a prerequisite. I've got to take an introduction to poetry before, then I can take the special course in poets of the 1960s. 9) And the introductory course is only offered in the evening.

W: You don't like evening classes?

M: No, that's not the point. I work in the cafeteria every evening. I need the money to pay my tuition.

W: Can you ask someone that could switch hours with you? Maybe you could just switch a couple of evenings since the course probably only meets two times a week.

M: I wish I could. My boss just did me a favor by putting me on evenings. And he'll hit the ceiling if I ask to change again.

W: Wait a minute. I have an idea. Have you checked the courses over at the community college? They might offer an introductory poetry course during the day.

M: Hey, that is a great idea! I'm free this afternoon. I think I'll go over and cheek it out.

W: Yeah, their courses are actually cheaper, and you can transfer the credits over there.

M: Thanks for the advice, Linda. I'll let you know what happens.

W: Sure, Mark. Good luck!

听力原文:W: Let's do something! Why don't we go out for dinner or go dancing.

M: I'm watching TV.

W: You're always watching TV. Stop being such a couch potato! Get up and let's do something.

M: I am doing something. I’ m watching TV.

W: You're always watching some stupid sitcom. It's a waste of time, and a waste of brain power.

M: Sometimes it's nice just to kick back, relax and laugh a little. There is nothing wrong with a little comedy in one's life. In fact, that's why I'm here.

W: Ha, ha! Very funny!

M: Besides, I am watching something serious.

W: What? I bet it's some ridiculous drama with perfect looking people complaining about the tribulations of daily life.

M: Nope, wrong again.

W: Then it must be a prime-time news program describing how some woman went crazy and killed her husband.

M: No, I watched that last night. You had better guess quickly--the commercials are almost over.

W: Is it a murder mystery? Or some science fiction show like Star Trek?

M: No.

W: A game show where they test your knowledge of useless trivia?

M: No, it's a documentary on dolphins in the Caribbean.

W: Hey, that sounds interesting!

M: Why don't we make some popcorn, and then watch the rest of it together.

(20)

A.Because it's a way of relaxing himself.

B.Because he has nothing else to do.

C.Because sitcom is very funny.

D.Because watching TV is his favorite activity.

听力原文:W: Hey, Jim, What a coincidence! Long time no see.

M: Yeah, me too. Hey, just between old friends I got to tell you. You don't look that well. Are you sick or something?

W: Well, not really. It's the same old story of the life of an overworked undergraduate student. I am up to my neck on this project. I am working on a project that has to be done by the end of the month.

M: Can't you speak to your professor about that? Maybe he would allow an extension and you will then have some breathing space.

W: Fat chance. My professor is one of those workaholic types and he expects everyone that works with him to be the same way. You know, sometimes he sleeps 4 hours a night but can still keep going during the day.

M: Wow, sounds like your professor is really nuts. You know I don't mind working hard but not to the point of killing myself. Hope you can get your project done without any hitches.

W: What about you? I heard the faculty is building another building on campus. A big project it seems by the looks of things and nearly completed I think.

M: Well, not quite there yet. They still have not decided whether they should move there or not. The Dean Wants me to mark papers and do some administration work for them. I have to make a decision by the end of this week.

W: That is a tough decision, isn't it? I would jump on the offer if I had one. To work with some of these academic types must be interesting.

M: Sure it is. I would not think twice if I didn't have such a heavy load this semester. Besides, my girlfriend isn't happy about my always spending time at school.

W: I can understand how your girlfriend feels. Maybe you can ask for a light load. Perhaps you should request to work only on certain days.

M: That's true. Then I wouldn't have to work under a workaholic professor anymore.

W: Hey, Jim, Do you think I have any chance of getting some work there?

M: Hmm... are you serious about working there? I thought you were joking.

(20)

A.Jim's health problems.

B.The woman's problems with her workaholic professor.

C.Jim's relationship with his professor.

D.Problems that Jim and the woman have with their workloads.
