听力原文: Despite various improvements in all aspects of social life, the generation gap between the grown-up and young remains unbridged. Instead, it grows wider apart.

Nowadays, the youths do not blindly follow what their elders say. Owing to the widespread of education, the influence of western civilization, to a certain extent, gives them a new code of philosophy, which is completely different from that of their elders. An invisible cold wall thus appears between the two generations.

Modern youths are trying to be more revolutionary. They have their own interpretation for different matters; they also have their own ideals. Their reluctance to learn old teachings and sayings becomes the constant friction between the two generations. They always introduce new changes. However, the old people, wedded to everything of the past, are hostile to changes and the generation gap becomes wider and wider.

After all, the young generation, like the old one, is made of flesh and blood. The young also need respect and they also have skills and good ideas. In order to narrow the gap, both groups should respect each other, listen to the words of each other. Most probably, these may help to solve the problem.

(23)

A.Generation gap.

B.Modem youths.

C.Influence of western civilization.

D.Social improvements.

听力原文: The United States is primarily an English speaking country. The majority of the population speaks English as their native language. Business, education and most public aspects of life are conducted in English. Across the country, people pronounce English sounds in several different ways. Americans speak one common language. This language is sometimes called American English.

For speakers of other languages, learning English is important, but traditionally teaching people to speak English as a second language was given little attention. Non-English speakers were expected to "pick up" the language through contact in public. Recently, this has changed.

Today, most large public schools and community collages have ESL (English as a Second Language) programs. American English teachers feel that English students should learn the language the way they will be using it. Therefore, ESL programs teach different English lessons to different students. Some programs teach students to communicate in English in public. Other programs teach the kind of English people need on their jobs.

American ESL instructional methods emphasize the importance of the communication to language learning. These methods do not feature grammatical explanations and translation. The instructional goal is to get the English learners to learn by using their target language.

(30)

A.People in the United States.

B.The characteristics of American English.

C.Foreigners in the United States.

D.The teaching of ESL in America.

听力原文: We may engage ourselves with music as a creator, that is a composer, or as a recreator, that is a performer, but most of us engaged ourselves with music as a receiver. That is a listener. As a listener, we respond to music with different levels of receptivity. We may be very causal and careless about the way we hear music, paying almost no attention to it. Elevator or telephone music, for example, is not meant to be listened to intently. We have all used music as background sound to create a pleasant atmosphere for our own quiet thought. On the other hand, especially when we are on the road, an easy listening station can create a dream-like haze and we may deliberately turn out the music so as to concentrate on the driving.

However, there are other times when music is the center of our focus. And we give it our full attention. This could be in a church, at a special event or at a concert. But how are we supposed to listen and what are we supposed to listen for. Basically, there are two ways to experience music. Some people let the sounds wash over them like a sauna bath and an emotional flood. This is the sensuous level. Other listeners respond on a perceptive or analytical level, paying attention to various aspects of the music as they unfold. They listen for musical events. The first level of attending to music is purely emotive. The second analytical. Ideally, we learn to listen more perceptively in order to increase the emotional impact. As a result, the second way of perceptive or analytical listening reveals the expressive power of the music composition so that we can enjoy it more fully.

(43)

A.That of a creator.

B.That of a re-creator.

C.That of a receiver.

D.That of a performer.
