听力原文: The train I was traveling on was already half an hour late. I had planned to arrive in Chicago at 7:00 in time to catch the 7:50 train to St. Louis, but there was no hope of that now. I explained the situation to the conductor who advised me to get off before Union Station and take a taxi. When the time came, he even helped me with my language. He wished mea good luck as I jumped off, and a few minutes later I was going towards the Union Station in a taxi. It was almost 7:50 when we stopped outside the station, I paid the driver quickly, carried my bags and hurried inside.

"The St. Louis train....'?" was all I had time to say to the first porter I saw. You can imagine my disappointment when he pointed to a train that was just moving out of the station.

What message in the following text can be delayed to create suspense? It was my girlfriend’s birthday. Early in the morning I told her that I forgot to prepare her birthday gift and would give it to her the next day. She was disappointed but still happy. Then I just gave her a piece of chocolate and told her that I wouldn’t go home with her after school. In fact I decided to give her a CD later. At 5:15 pm I left school a bit earlier than usual, and hurried to catch the bus which my girlfriend would take at the next stop every day. Bus 242 came and I got onto it. It was the very bus I was sure that she would get on at the next stop. I sat quietly at the back of the bus so that she could not see me so easily. The bus stopped and she got on. She stood at the back door. I walked toward her quietly and gave her a great surprise with the CD she had always dreamed of.

A、The identity of my girlfriend

B、The bus number

第10题
When I turned 40, my husband staged a surprise party for me. I should never forget my emot
ion as I entered the restaurant and saw loving friends amid flowers and music and a large display of photographs that spanned my life. I hurried from one table to the next, greeting each guest. Then suddenly at the rear of the room I spotted a gentle, smiling man with snow-white hair and a blue-eyed woman on his side.

"Mom, Dad," I gasped. They had flown to Los Angeles from Chicago just hours before. I burst into tears at the sight of these two who, more than anyone else, had taught me that being there for another person is the greatest gift we can give.

A year later, my husband and I were invited to an unusual wedding. Our friends had been married years before in a civil ceremony, and now they wanted to declare again their commitment to one another in a church service. The morning before the wedding, I decided to call my friend and beg off. "Kathe, this is Karen," I began hesitantly.

"You're coming, aren't you?" She broke in. Her voice was urgent. I paused and in that instant recalled the sight of my parents at my 40th-birthday party.

"Yes, of course," I said, "We'll be there."

So we went. And I was grateful we did. We weren't in our seats a minute before Kathe came up behind us, radiant but with tears in her eyes. She told us how much our presence meant to her, with many of her beloved ones absent.

I see now that one's presence can be a duty in the highest sense. It is, in fact, something that we owe one another, whatever the cost. In gifts of the self, self is renewed.

"Being there" is indeed at the very core of civility.

Which of the following might be the best title for the passage?

A.People's High Sense of Responsibility

B.Presence, the Best Gift We Can Give

C.Peopie's Attitude toward Responsibility

D.How to Show One's Gentle Love
