Stage plays, at first, seem a lot like films. Both use actors, dialogue and scenery. But i
f you try to make a film by setting up a camera in front of the stage, you will find it won't work. A film made in this way will leave the audience cold. And even worse you'll be wasting a powerful tool— the camera.

A stage is actually a box. One side of the box has been removed so the audience can see what's going on inside. The actors remain at a fixed audience. In the film, however, the camera can bring the audience up close and fix their attention on small but important things: a frightened look, a whisper, a trembling of hands.

The camera offers the film maker freedom allowing him to move easily across barriers (界限) of time and space. He can show his action in real cities and on real farms. He can also use the camera to change the scene dozens of times in one film. No expert of the stage can do this.

The main idea of the text is that______.

A.stage plays and films are two different kinds of art

B.it is always disappointing to turn play into films

C.films have certain advantages over stage plays

D.the camera has made film making easy and possible

What's your idea of a good time? What about dancing in a rainy field with one hundred and
fifty thousand other people while a famous rock band plays on a stage so far away that the performers look like ants?

It may sound strange but that is what many hundreds of thousands of young people in the UK do every summer. Why? Because summer is the time for outdoor music festivals. Held on a farm, the Glastonbury Festival is the most well-known and popular in the UK. It began in 1970 and was attended by one thousand five hundred people each paying an admission price of £ 1--the ticket included free milk from the farm.

Since then the Glastonbury Festival has gone from strength to strength--in 2004 one hundred and fifty thousand fans attended, paying £ 112 for tickets to the three-day event. Tickets for the event sold out within three hours. Acts included veteran (老的、著名的) superstars, such as Paul McCartney and James Brown, as well as new talents, like Franz Ferdinand and Joss Stone.

Although many summer festivals are run on a profit-making basis, Glastonbury is a charity event, donating millions of pounds to local and international charities(慈善事业).

Glastonbury is not unique in using live music to raise money for global poverty. In July of this tear, the Live 8 concerts, were held simultaneously (同时) in London, Paris, Rome and Berlin. Superstars, such as Madonna, Sir Elton John and Stevie Wonder performed in order to highlight international poverty and debt.

What does the author mean by "the Glastonbury Festival has gone from strength to strength"?

A.The festival has achieved continuing and growing success.

B.It has taken great efforts to hold the festival.

C.The festival has brought in a large amount of money.

D.There have been thousands of fans attending the festival.

Questions 下列各 are based on the following passage. Because of satellite links which n
ow enable broadcast news organizations to originate liveprogramming from any part of the globe, the entire world is becoming one giant sound stage fortelevision news. As a result, Shakespeares famous line, "all the worh is a stage," has taken on aninteresting new twist in meaning. Even before todays worldwide satellite links were possible, the growing effect of broadcast news technology on national and international politics was becoming increasingly evident. Because television is a close-up medium and a medium that seerns to most readily involve emotions, it is most effective when it is revealing the plights of people; During the Vietnam War, readingabout war was one thing, but war took on a deeper and more unsavor (令人讨厌的) dimension when it was exported directly into U. S. living rooms night after night by television. Public opinion eventuallyturned against the war and to some measure against President Johnson who was associated with it. As a result of the public opinion backlash (消极反应) during these tines, the Pentagon was thereaftermuch more careful to control what foreign correspondents and TV crews would be allowed to see andreport. It was during this time that President Carter brought the issue of human rights to the centre of hisforeign policy, and, to some degree, to the centre of international pol tics. "Human rights is the soul ofour foreign policy," Carter said. "Of all human rights the most basic s to be free of arbitrary violence, whether that violence comes from government, from terrorists, from criminals, or fiom self-appointedmessiahs (救世主) operating under the cover of politics or religion. " Although political viewpoints have changed since then, because of the emotional nature of humanrights, this has emerged as the "soul" of television news. The transgression (侵犯) of human rightshas been the focus of many, if not most, major international television news stories. The reporting ofthese stories has created outrage in the world, prompted attempts at censorship by dictators, and in many cases resulted in the elimination of human rights abuses. The passage mainly discusses____________.

A.the evolution of international politics in the United States

B.the broadcast media gives its primary concern on human rights

C.the global television communication has a huge impact on pet, pies emotions

D.the broadcast media plays a growing role in international poli ics
