M: Hello, could I speak to Peter Lira Please?

F: I'm afraid he's in a meeting at the moment.

M: Could I leave a message then?

F: Certainly.

M: This is Jack Hanks.

F: Oh, yes. Of HBC International, you are coming to see us tomorrow I believe.

F: Is he familiar with our business?

M: Oh, yes. He's been working on your file for a few weeks now. And he'll be able to discuss the contract with you tomorrow. If everyone's happy, perhaps you can go ahead and sign.

F: OK. I'll pass a message on to Peter and we'll look forward to seeing Mr. Solon tomorrow.

When the bike reached the frontier, Peter would stop the man and {A. ask; B. order; C. make; D. call} him take the straw off and untie it. Then he would examine the straw very carefully to see {A. that; B. whether; C. how; D. where} he could find anything, after which he would look in all the man’s pockets before he let him tie the straw again. The man would then put it on his bike and go off down the hill with it. M: That sounds great! I'll definitely try some of those.

W: I'm glad to hear that. So, what are you doing here?

always seems to be a queue. Im writing a report for my economics class. How about you? M: Im still working on my essay on environmental science. I need to check out a reference. W: You know, when I first started doing my report I was frightened to use these computer catalogues. I feared something would go wrong. M: But theyre so useful. You can see at a glance what books you need and if theyre checked out or not. W: I know that now, but at the beginning I really missed the card catalogues. W: You know, I took a study skills class because I thought it would help me locate information, and all I learned was how to read the cards, which wasnt of much help! My real problem is knowing what card to look up. M: Yes, and that takes thinking! Pity the computer cant do that for us. W: Maybe it will some day. Oh, look, theres a free computer now. M: Yes, thanks. See you! Questions 13 to 15 are based on the conversation you have just heard. 13. What is the mans purpose to come here? 14. What can we learn from the conversation? 15. 听力原文:W: Oh, Peter, there you are. You've been ages. What kept you so long?

M: I'm sorry I am so late, Sally. Have you been waiting long?

W: Oh, half an hour. But it doesn't matter. I've had a coffee and I have been reading this guidebook for tourists. Sit down. You look very hot and tired. What would you like to drink?

M: I'd love a really chilled mineral water or something. Will you have another coffee?

W: Yes, I will. The waitress will be back in a moment. Why were you so late? Did something happen?

M: You know I went to the bank to cash some traveler's checks. Well, the exchange rate was looking healthy, but when I went to the teller, they told me the computer system was temporarily down, so they couldn't do any transactions. They said the problem would be fixed in a few minutes, so I waited. And then I started talking to another guy in the bank, and I forgot the time.

W: Oh, really? Someone you met in the bank? Does he work there?

M: No, he's a tourist, from New York. His name's Henry, and he has been here for a week, but he's moving on to Germany tomorrow. He's an architect, and he's spending four weeks traveling around Europe.

W: Just like us!

M: Yeah. He told me the names of some places where we should eat. Great food, and not too expensive, he said. He also gave me this map of the bus system. He said he didn't need it any more.

W: That's useful. Pity he's moving on tomorrow. Ah, here's the waitress. Let's order. Do you want anything to eat, or shall we just have a drink?

M: Well, I'm hungry, and we've got a lot of sightseeing to do, so let's just have a snack and a drink.

(23)

A.To go to see and talk to a friend.

B.To go to cash his traveler's checks.
