Dear Mrs. Miller,
I was awfully sorry to learn that Tom kicked his ball through your window this morning.
He has been warned time and time again not to play football beside your house. Unfortunately, he disobeyed me, and I can only offer my sincere apologies. When you have the window repaired, please send the bill to me.
Apologize once again.
Yours sincerely,
Mary Washington
Woman: So when are you suggesting?
Man: Well, could you do either June the twelfth or the twenty-third instead?
Woman: I suppose so, though neither is terribly convenient.
Man: Let's go with the earlier date then - don't want to leave it too long.

听力原文:W:Why did you sell the car?
M:It was giving me too much trouble. I was spending so much money on it that I was... er... spending more money than it was worth. Unfortunately, of course. When you actually sell the car, you've already ha, spent the money on it, so you lose both ways.
W:What was wrong with your old car?
M:The engine needs many repairs and the wheels were giving trouble now and then, when I set off on a journey, it gave me a sort of fear that I might not reach the other end. So I decided to change it.
W:Is the new car good?
M:Yes, It's newer, more comfortable, and it hasn't given me any trouble at all. When I set off,I'm quite sure that I'll be able to get to the other end safely.
What did the man do about his old car?
A.He sold it.
B.He repaired the engine.
C.He gave it to his friend as a present.
W: What seems to be the problem?
M: I'm having problems with my Internet connection, as well as repeated crashes when I try to nm my word- processing software.
W: Did you read the instructions that came with the computer?
M: Well, yes. But the trouble-shooting section was no help.
W: What happened exactly?
M: Well, the Internet connection doesn't work. I think the modem is broken. I' d like a replacement.
W: How were you using the computer when you tried to connect to the Internet?
M: I was trying to connect to the Internet! What kind of question is that?!
W: I understand you're upset, sir. I'm just trying to understand the problem. I'm afraid it' s not our policy to replace computers because of glitches,
M: I bought this computer with the software pre-loaded. I haven't touched anything.
W: We're sorry that you've had a problem with this computer. Could you bring in your computer? I promise you we'll check the settings and get back to you immediately.
M:OK, that will work for me.

听力原文: My friend, Vernon Davies kept birds. One day he phoned and told me he was going away for a week. He asked me to feed the birds for him and said that he would leave the key of his front door in my mailbox.
Unfortunately, I forgot all about the birds until the night before Vernon was going to return. What was worse, it was already dark when I arrived at his house. I soon found the key Vernon gave me could not unlock either the front door or the back door. I was getting desperate. I kept thinking of what Vemon would say when he came back.
I was just going to give up when I noticed that one bedroom window was slightly open. I found a barrel and pushed it under the window. As the barrel was very heavy, I made a lot of noise. But in the end, I managed to climb up and open the window.
I actually had one leg inside the bedroom when I suddenly realized that someone was shining a torch up at me, I looked down and saw a policeman and an old lady, one of Vemon's neighbours. "What are you doing up there?" said the policeman. Feeling like a complete fool, I replied, "I was just going to feed Mr. Davies's birds."

听力原文:Interviewer: Can you still remember the thrill of it? I mean the first time you actually ride out there, out in front must be ...
Man: Yeah, yeah, it was certainly a big thrill, but it was an evening event. It was the last race and it was almost dark by the time we'd finished and when I got home it was about ten or eleven o'clock, so there was very little time to think about it or do anything. And I had to be up at about half five the next day for my job, so unfortunately it was straight back to work really.
