Subject: Hi Sherry!

Guilt'? Guilt is my middle name. I feel guilty for not being more than I am, for letting opportunities pass me by, for not having enough energy to do everything, for spending so much time on the web! I feel guilty for not being best at everything, because merely being good at some things is not good enough. I feel guilty for having a bit of an edge on my personality even though I do like my personality. I feel guilty about having a daughter who refuses to wear dresses or pink pony tail holders.

I feel guilty about producing boys who aren't great at sports, who are thin and wiry and freckled and spectacled. I feel guilty about aluminum cans and eating meat and using cleaning chemicals and having three children and driving a car — ecoguilt. But not guilty enough to change my had habits. I feel guilty for liking myself even though I'm convinced I've failed completely at being perfect. And now I feel guilty about writing so much!

Candice

Which of the following is the writer of this letter most likely the least guilty of?

A.Not having enough energy to do everything.

B.Merely being good at some things but not the best.

C.Keeping her bad habits, even if she herself knows.

D.Her thin and wiry and freckled and spectacled sons.

SECTION A CONVERSATIONS

Directions: In this section you will hear several conversations. Listen to the conversations carefully and then answer the questions that follow.

听力原文:W: Hi, Mike, do you have a minute to spare?

M: Yes, Sherry, how can I help you?

W: Well, I have been getting music noises coming from your apartment and it seems like it is always during 9pm-12am when I am trying to study. Is it possible to tune down and contain the noise to your apartment then?

M: Oh, I'm so sorry about that. I hadn't been back to my apartment for two weeks and in fact, I just got back today. It must be my new roommate then.

W: I realize that. Could you have a word with him and get him to lower the volume because it is disturbing during the night. It's just, how it is around this time of the year with midterms and everything.

M: Oh, no problem, and I tell you what I won't even mention that it was you who complained.

W: Well, Mike, I appreciate it but I'm afraid that this is not the only issue I want to bring up. Your new roommate is also taking up two parking spaces in the parking lot.

M: Really, I didn't know that! That's selfish of him. Well, Sherry, not to worry. You bet I will give him a piece of my mind tonight.

W: All right, I hope you can settle all of this soon. Sorry to give you all this bad news now.

M: Oh, don't worry, Sherry, this will be all settled without a hitch.

What does the woman think of the roommate's music?

A.She can't bear it.

B.She doesn't mind it.

听力原文:W: Hi, George. Got any plans for tonight?

M: Not exactly. Do you have any suggestions?

W: In fact, I do. I just got two tickets to the opening of the exhibit of the reprints by Julia Margaret Cameron. I should have mentioned it earlier, but I wasn't sure if I'd even get the tickets.

M: An exhibit, huh? I like that. But I don't know who Julia...

W: Julia Margaret Cameron! She was a renowned photographer who changed the aesthetics for photography.

M: What do you mean?

W: Well, her specialty was portraits and instead of just making a factual record of details like most photographers did, you know, just capturing what a person looks like in a dispassionate way. She, like a portrait painter, was interested in capturing her subject's personality.

M: Interesting! How did she do that?

W: Well, she invented a number of techniques that affect the picture. One of those things was to blur images slightly by using a soft focus on the subject. That's pretty common now.

M: Yeah. Who did she photograph?

W: Famous people of her days, like Alfred Lord Tennyson, Charles Darwin, just to name a few. Why not find out by yourself at the exhibition?

M: You've picked my curiosity. I am going to enjoy this.

(9)

A.Her subject's home.

B.Her subject's personality.

C.Her subject's social status.

D.Her subject's role in history.
