听力原文: Various kinds of nuclear weapons have been produced in the past few years by man

y countries. This is a new and a terrible development in the history of man. Very few events can be more frightful than a nuclear war. In a nuclear war, most of the world's population will be exterminated. The few living creatures that survive will be exposed to radiation or to electrical rays harmful to life. It has been said by scientists that many new diseases will be caused by radiation. There will also be an acute shortage of food, for all the crops and stores will be poisoned by radiation. Most of the areas on which nuclear bombs have been dropped will be ruined. Therefore the survivors of a nuclear war will be sick, hungry and homeless. It might be better perhaps, to be killed in a nuclear war than to survive it. It would be better still for men to learn to live in peace with one another. If this can be achieved there will be no nuclear wars.

If nuclear bombs are dropped on an area the survivors will

A.die gradually.

B.store more food.

C.be very sick.

D.grow more crops.

听力原文: Is your family interested in buying a dog? A dog can be a happy addition to your family, but if you choose the wrong kind of dog, the consequences can cause you a lot of trouble.

Families are the ones who want the dog, the parents are the ones who are really responsible for seeing that the animal is properly cared for. If you don't know much about dogs, it's a good idea to go to the library or the ASPCA for books about various kinds of dogs, as well as books about how to train a puppy. In reading about the different breeds, you should know that a dog described as very alert may be too jumpy and bouncy. When a book describes a dog as an ideal bunting dog, it probably means that the dog won't be happy living in a small apartment. Dog breeds vary in popularity as the years go by. One of the most popular dogs these days is the German shepherd. This is because it provides protection as well as companionship. The family should be warned that these dogs grow up to be very big, and may be too powerful for children to handle. If space is limited, a toy dog may be a good choice. These dogs are very small and easy to train. They don't need to be walked daily, since they can exercise in the space available in the home.

(30)

A.The care and proper selection of dogs for family pets.

B.Different breeds of dogs.

C.Responsibility for seeing that dogs are properly cared for.

D.Different kinds of books about dogs.

听力原文: In recent years, many Americans of both sexes and various ages have become increasingly interested in improving their bodies. (29) They have become more devoted to physical fitness. Many persons have a strong desire to be more physically fit.

By nature, Americans are enthusiastic, and energetic about bobbies or pastimes. And now many of them apply this enthusiasm, optimism, and energy to

running. (30) As a result, there are more running clubs to join and numerous books and magazines to read about running.

The desire for American people to be physically fit could probably be explained by a "passion" for good health. The high rate of heart attacks in the 1960s has caused an increase of interest in improving the health condition of human body. Middle-aged men especially suffer from heart attacks. Thus, they are one group strongly interested in taking more physical exercise. (31) In fact, many doctors often encourage their patients to become more physically active, especially those who have inactive jobs. It is quite interesting to note that the rate of heart attacks began to decrease between 1972 and 1974 and it is still decreasing now.

It seems that physical fitness has now become a new "love" of Americans. But will it last very long? Nobody knows. Only time will tell—or until another "new passion" comes along and takes its place.

29. Why are Americans so interested in physical exercise?

30.What happens when American people apply great enthusiasm in running?

31.What kinds of patients are especially encouraged to take part in physical exercise?

(4)

A.Because of their hobbies and pastimes.

B.Because of their enthusiasm for sports.

C.Because of their fear of heart attacks.

D.Because of their strong desire for good health.

听力原文: Aristotle, file Greek philosopher, summed up the four chief qualifies of money some 2,000 years ago. It must be lasting and easy to recognize, to divide, and to carry about. In other words it must be, "durable, distinct, divisible and portable". When we think of money today, we picture it either as round, flat pieces of metal which we call coins, or as printed paper notes. But there are still parts of the world today where coins and notes are of no use. They will buy nothing, and a traveler might starve if he had none of the particular local money to exchange for food.

Among isolated peoples, who are not often reached by traders from outside, commerce usually means barter. There is a direct exchange of goods. Perhaps it is fish for vegetables, meat for grain, or various kinds of food in exchange for pots, baskets, or other manufactured goods. For this kind of simple trading money is not needed, but there is often something that everyone wants and everybody can use, such as salt to flavor food, shells for ornaments. These things--salt, shells or metals --are still used as money in out-of-the-way parts of the world today.

(30)

A.Coins are round, flat pieces of metal.

B.Today, we usually think of money as either coins or paper money.

C.Theoretically speaking, coins and paper notes should be durable, distinct, divisible and portable.

D.Today, other forms of money than coins and paper money are still being used.
