听力原文: Attracting and feeding wild birds are entertaining activities that have long been enjoyed by people all over the world. Feeding birds has become so popular that prepared feed mixtures are readily available. We feed birds for many reasons. Many pleasant hours can come from watching birds. A hobby often develops into a serious study of their habits. Accurate identification of birds is usually the first goal. But observations that an amateur bird-watcher can make are really limitless.
There is, however, responsibility associated with bird feeding, including a disease hazard. Attracting numbers of birds continually to the same spot can be harmful to them, particularly species that pick food from the ground contaminated by the droppings of other birds. In winter, feeding efforts are most satisfying to people and are of greatest benefit to birds. During this time, when fewer natural foods are available and air temperatures are lower, extra feeding can keep a bird warm and well. Once begun, feeding should never stop during these lean months.
If you start a local increase of birds, be prepared to do what may be required to eliminate hazards to those you want to befriend. A constant supply of food should be given until the cold is over and spring has come. If feeding is stopped during severe weather, birds used to relying upon the feeders might starve.
Questions:
What does the speaker say about bird-watching?
What does the speaker say about birds fed continually on the same spot?
What does the speaker suggest we do when feeding birds in winter?
(27)
A.It is entertaining.
B.It is a costly hobby.
C.It takes lots of time.
D.It requires training.
That started me thinking of other pleasures that cost nothing or very lime and that are often taken for granted, like a drink of cold water on a hot day when you're really thirsty, or a warm relaxing bath when you're extremely tired or mentally exhausted,
Remember your first real kiss—can you put a price tag on that? Or the companionship of a faithful and loving pet, or the clean, fresh smell of mountain air? There's an old song, "The Best Things in Life Are Free".
Did you ever eat a meal that not only filled your stomach and satisfied all your tastes, but refreshed your soul? Ever spend a winter's evening in the company of good friends?
What could be better than listening to your favorite music or watching a good movie? Or sharing the beauty of a sunset with a loved one? These are quite delightful and delicate pleasures. I hope this doesn't sound too ridiculous in today's rough, loud world. I hope the new generation can appreciate some of these things.
What can be inferred from this speech?
A.The speaker enjoys sleeping very much.
B.The speaker doesn't like money at all.
C.Bill Gates does not know how to enjoy himself.
D.Mental well-being is the most important thing.
听力原文: Hello, I was once a hostess. Now I am on my first bus trip and I'm quite surprised at the services offered during the trip. Included are meals on the way, rest rooms and public address announcements.
Just now, I introduced myself to the hostess on the bus, and we told each other about experience on air and ground travel.
At lunch time, she gave out menus offering a choice of sandwiches. As she started filling orders, she found that there weren't enough egg-salad sandwiches. She quickly went to whisper to the driver. The bus soon stopped. The hostess ran to another bum that was all the time following ours and she soon returned with a box of egg-salad sandwiches. As she passed my seat, she asked, "Could you do that on a plane?"
According to this passage, what kind of vehicle did the speaker always ride in the past?
A.By bus.
B.By air.
C.By train.
Effective listening is more than simply avoiding the bad habit of interrupting others while they are speaking or finishing their sentences. It's being content to listen to the entire thought of someone rather than waiting impatiently for your chance to respond. In some ways, the way we fail to listen is symbolic of the way we live. We often treat communication as if it were a race. It's almost like our goal is to have no gaps between the conclusion of the sentence of the person we are speaking with and the beginning of our own. My wife and I were recently at a cafeteria having lunch, overhearing the conversation around us. It seemed that no one was really listening to one another; instead they were taking turns not listening to one another. I asked my wife if I still did the same thing. With a smile on her face she said, "only sometimes".
Slowing down your responses and becoming a better listener aids you in becoming a more peaceful person. It takes pressure from you. If you think about it, you'll notice that it takes an enormous amount of energy and is very stressful to be sitting at the edge of your seat trying to guess what the person in front of you (or on the telephone) is going to say so that you can fire back your responses. But as you wait for the person you are communicating with to finish, as you simply listen more carefully to what is being said, you'll notice that the pressure you feel is off. You will immediately feel more relaxed, and so will the people you are talking to. They will feel safe in slowing down their own responses because they won't feel in competition with you for "air time"! Not only will becoming a better listener make you a more patient person, it will also enhance the quality of your relationships. Everyone loves to talk to someone who truly listens to what they are saying.
According to the passage, an effective listener should ______.
A.accept the speaker's thought critically
B.respond to the speaker's words slowly
C.wait for the chance to respond patiently
D.reply the speaker's questions patiently
Section D
听力原文: Listen to a talk given by an astronaut.
Thank you. It's great to see so many of you interested in this series on "Survival in Outer Space". Please excuse the cameras--we're being videotaped for the local TV stations.
Tonight I'm going to talk about the most basic aspect of survival--the space suit. When most of you imagine an astronaut, that's probably the first thing that comes to mind, right? Well, without space suits, it would not be possible for us to survive in space. For example, outer space is a vacuum--there's no gravity or air pressure; without protection, a body would explode. What's more, we'd cook in the sun or freeze in the shade---with temperatures ranging from a toasty 300 degrees above to a cool 300 degrees below zero Fahrenheit.
The space suit that NASA has developed is truly a marvel. This photo enlargement here is a life-size image of an actual space suit worn by astronauts on the last space shuttle mission. This part is the torso--it's made of seven extremely durable layers. This thick insulation protects against temperature extremes and radiation. Next is what they call a "bladder" of oxygen--that's an inflatable sac, filled with oxygen, to simulate atmospheric pressure. This bladder presses against the body with the same force as the Earth's atmosphere at sea level. The innermost layers provide liquid cooling and ventilation. Despite all the layers, the suit is flexible, allowing free movement so we Call work.
Another really sophisticated part of the space suit is the helmet. I brought one along to show you. Can I have a volunteer come and demonstrate?
21. What is the speaker's main purpose?
22.What would cause an unprotected human body to explode in outer space?
23.Where is the "bladder" of oxygen located?
24.What does the speaker show the audience as she describes the main part of the space suit?
25.What will probably happen next?
(21)
A.To show a videotape on survival in outer space.
B.To gain support for the space program.
C.To describe her experience on space missions.
D.To inform. the audience about the space suit.
