CHIEF EXECUTIVE’S REVIEW

The prime focus for management recently has been the integration into the Group of Damon Beds. This acquisition is very much greater part of our strategy to grow our

41 presence in the UK branded furniture market. We are neither convinced that

42 leveraging the proven brand management expertise of which we are proud is the

43 optimum route to continued and sustainable growth in shareholder value. Overall,

44 sales grew more quickly than 9%, to reach £125 million. This represents a small

45 increase in market share such as our strategy to build share in growing, added value

46 sectors gains momentum. Our established brands had another excellent year with

47 volumes and turnover at record levels. While we have increased capacity to cope with

48 significantly increased demand, boosted by the return to television advertising in early

49 last year. The purpose of the campaign is how to reinforce our position as the UK's

50 leading volume bed business by improving brand awareness still further on and, more

51 importantly, communicating to consumers regarding the message about the uniqueness

52 of the product and yet the benefits and reasons for choosing our beds. Early indications show that the campaign is already having the desired effect.

How to approach Reading Test Part Five

&8226;This part of the Reading Test tests your ability to identify additional or unnecessary words in a text. Most lines contain one extra word which is incorrect.

&8226;Read the whole text quickly to find out what it is about. As you read, try to identify the words that are incorrect. Make sure you consider whole sentences, and not each line separately.

&8226;Then read the text again, and write down the extra words.

&8226;Remember there will be only one extra word in a line, and some lines are correct.

&8226;Read the article on the opposite page about identifying the training needs of staff.

&8226;In most of the lines 34 - 45 there is one extra word. It is either grammatically incorrect or does not fit in with the meaning of the text. Some lines, however, are correct.

&8226;If a line is correct, write CORRECT on your Answer Sheet.

&8226;If there is an extra word in the line, write the extra word in CAPITAL LETTERS on your Answer Sheet.

&8226;The exercise begins with two examples, (0) and (00).

Identifying training needs

The financial benefits of training are sometimes hard to demonstrate, and often the

training budget is the first to be reduced instead when spending is under pressure. For

34 this reason, and given that the need for any corporate spending to provide maximum

35 value for money, it is important for the differences between individuals must to be

36 taken into account when considering training requirements. This makes for far more

37 effective training than a programme is based solely on generalisations about staff. After

38 all this, our abilities differ, and variations in previous experience can also play a

39 significant role in learning. Identifying training needs and their capabilities on an

40 individual basis is often carried out in appraisal interviews. In those workplaces where

41 each employee's productivity is measured, such records may be considered during the

42 appraisal, allowing for the possibility that inadequate training can be identified as if the

43 reason for low productivity. Training requirements are also evaluated in such

44 assessment centres, and in which groups of staff are observed while taking part in job

45 simulation activities. Although these are often used to assess potential for promotion, but can also show employees' training needs within their current job.

Denying Claims

Correct Customers occasionally want something they are not entitled to or that you

Their can't grant. They may misunderstand their warranties or make unreasonable

34 demands. Because these customers are often unhappy with a product or

35 service, they are emotionally involved in. Letters that say no to emotionally

36 involved receivers will probably be your much most difficult communication

37 task. As if publisher Malcolm Forbes has pointed out, "To be agreeable while

38 be disagreeing--that's an art." Fortunately, the reasons-before-refusal plan

39 enables you to be empathic and artful in handling with bad news. Obviously, in

40 denial letters you will need to adopt the proper tone. Don't blame on customers

41 or suggest that the customer does not read or understand what the contract or

42 relative policies, even if they are at fault. Avoid use "you" statements that

43 sound preachy. Instead, the safest path is to use neutral and objective

44 language to explain that why the claim must be refused. Sometimes you may

45 hope consider offering resale information to rebuild the customer's confidence

in your products or organization.

34. They are cautious but their loyalty, without once achieved, is the key to business success.

35. Brands can help to create customer loyalty by providing us a signpost to certainty and

36. safety. Ideally, when a customer sees a product, it leads to a range of positive thoughts

37. so that the product is bought. Unfortunately, only a small number of products have

38. reached to this level. While everyone in business is aware of the need to attract and

39. retain customers, that they often overlook the second, more important, half of the
