听力原文:W: Oh, Dan. Come on in. Ive just graded the midterm exams for your class. You had
one of the highest scores. So, what can I do for you? M: Dr Wilson, Im really worried about the paper due tomorrow — you know that case study. So far I havent done a thing beyond gathering the data, and I have two more midterms tomorrow morning. I was hoping youd give me an extension till Friday. W: Well, Dan, when I assigned the paper during the first week of the semester, I emphasised that late papers would be punished. Youre free to turn in your case study late, but Ill have to lower your grade for it. If I gave you extension, it wouldnt be fair to the other students. Youre a good writer, Dan. It shouldnt take that much time to turn your data into a solid report. M: But I havent even made my outline yet, and Im having a hard time with the computer analysis of the data. W: It sounds to me like youre just putting it off. M: I really am working on it, but I just cant get it finished and Ive got to study for two other tests by tomorrow afternoon! But I might be able to get it done after class...maybe...by midnight tomorrow. W: Hmm…I didnt specify what time the paper was due. But Im leaving campus at 4:00 p.m. tomorrow, and they lock this building at 11:00 p.m. M: Still, if its under your door when you get in Thursday morning, you cant say I turned it in late, right? W: Right. Questions 13 to 15 are based on the conversation you have just heard. 13. What does Dan want Dr Wilson to do? 14. What is one reason Dan gives for his problem? 15. What work has Dan already completed on the paper?13.

A.His computer isn"t working.

B.He has to study for exams.

C.He didn"t understand the assignment.

D.He won"t be on campus until Thursday.

听力原文:W: Im going to leave work early today. Theres a debate this evening at 6 oclock.
So Im going to get an early dinner and head over there. M: Whos debating about what? W: The two candidates for the states senate are going to answer questions from reporters. The Daily News is sponsoring the event. Members of the audience will also have a chance to ask questions, so maybe Ill speak, too. M: Oh, so youre interested in politics. Are you helping one of them? W: No, I just want to learn more about the candidates so I can make an informed decision. M: Well, I dont think Ill be voting, so I guess I wont bother with that. W: Why arent going to vote? M: Oh, My one vote doesnt matter. W: Sure it does! M: Well, besides that I dont think any of the politicians these days represent my ideas. Id like to see the government support guaranteed loans for people who start small businesses. Ive wanted to open my own bakery for years and I cant get a loan. W: You know what? Thats one of the issues theyll probably discuss tonight. One of the candidates wants tax breaks for large companies. He says that will create more jobs. The other candidate owns a restaurant. She wants to start programmes to promote more small businesses. M: Hmm. What do you know? Maybe I should show up there myself. Questions 9 to 12 are based on the conversation you have just heard. 9. Why is the woman going to the debate? 10. What reason does the man give for not voting? 11. According to the woman, what is an important issue in the upcoming election? 12. What will the man probably do?9.

A.He is too busy.

B.He is not old enough.

第11题
根据下面资料,回答下列各题 There is a certain inevitability that ebook sales have now over
taken paperback sales on Amazons US site. Amazons Kindle 2 is so light and so cheap that its easy to see why people have rushed to buy it. Though Im still not keen on the design of the Kindle, it is a vast improvement on its predecessor and certainly tolerable. Beyond the device itself, Amazon has done a great job of rolling out Kindle apps, ensuring that people like me-who have an iPad but not a Kindle-can still join in the fun. Once youre into the Kindle ecosystem, Amazon locks you in tightly-just as Apple does with its iTunes/ iPod ecosystem. Its so easy to buy from Amazons store and the books are so cheap that its not worth the effort of going elsewhere. While I remain opposed to Amazons DRM (数字版权管理)-indeed, Im opposed to DRM on any ebooks-I have to admit that the implementation is so smooth that most Kindle users wont care at all that their ebooks cant be moved to other devices. The ebook trend is nowhere near peaking. Over the next five years we can expect to see more and more readers move away from printed books and pick up ebooks instead. But I dont think that will mean the death of the printed book. There are some who prefer printed books. They like having shelves filled with books theyve read and books they plan to read; they like the feel of the book in their hands and the different weights and typefaces and layouts of different titles. In other words, they like the physical form. of the book almost as much as the words it contains. I can sympathise with those people. As I wrote earlier this week, my ideal situation would be for publishers to bundle ebooks with printed ones-in much the same way that film studios btmdie DVDs with digital copies of films. Theres no reason to think that lovers of printed books will change their minds. There will undoubtedly be fewer of them as time goes by because more people will grow up with ebooks and spend little time with printed ones. However, just as there are people who love vinyl records(黑胶唱片), even if they were born well into the CD era, there will still be a dedicated minority who love physical books. Since there are fewer of these people, that will mean fewer bookshops and higher prices for printed books but I dont think the picture is entirely bleak. There is scope for smaller print runs of lavishly designed printed books and bookshops aimed at book lovers, rather than the Stieg Larsson-reading masses. With mainstream readers out of the printed book market, book lovers might even find they get a better experience. What can be inferred from Paragraph One?

A.Most people buy Kindle 2 mainly because of its low price.

B.The author of the passage is a loyal customer of Apple products.

C.Amazons Kindle 2 surpassed Kindle 1 in designing.

D.The sales of ebook outnumbered those of paperback in the U. S.
