听力原文: The organizers of the Olympic Games in Beijing have marked the start of the year-long countdown to the event with an elaborate ceremony in Tiananmen Square.
The exact moment the Games will begin next August was greeted with a fireworks display and 10,000 guests were entertained by troops of dancers and musicians.
The festivities here in Tiananmen Square were a display of China's skill in pouring off a meticulously planned celebration. It included traditional song and dance from people of all ethnic backgrounds in China, a spectacular fireworks display, all below the portrait of Chairman Mao in front of the Forbidden City. China's financial might and its endless supply of labor has ensured the state-of-the-art venues will be completed well ahead of schedule and many of them, especially the National Stadium known as "the Birds Nest", take the breath away.
The ceremony celebrating the countdown of the Olympic Games manifested China's ______ .

Dear Ms. Tuncay:
Thank you for contacting us to learn more about our environmentally friendly products. We suggest that you try a sample of our materials first. If you are happy with them, then you can buy more. If your order totals $10,000 or more, then we will reduce your shipping/handling fee by 3%. We prepared a purchase order for you so that you can try a sample of our products.
Our products may seem to cost more up front than other similar products. For example, you pay $200 more for our standard carpet than you would for a similar carpet that is not environmentally friendly. However, you save money in other ways. Because our carpets are made of special materials, they are much easier to clean and maintain.
One motion light is double the price of a regular light. However, motion lights save you money on electricity bills because the light stays on only when people are in the room. Also, the solar panels provide free energy. We suggest that you try the panels in several places on your building.
To buy the materials, please sign the purchase order. You may fax it to us, with your credit card number. We will ship the supplies immediately. Thank you for your business.
Yours truly,
Peter Lindstrom

Distinguished by their design characteristics, three styles of San Franciscan Victorians can be found today. The Italianate, which flourished in the 1970's, is characterized by a flat roof, slim pillars flanking the front door, and bays with windows that slant inward. The ornamentation of these narrow row houses was patterned after features of the Roman Classical styles. The Stick style, which peaked in popularity during the 1880s, added ornate woodwork outlines to the doors and windows. Other additions included the French cap, gables, and three-sided bays. Designs changed dramatically when the Queen Anne style. became the rage in the 1890s. Turrets, towers, steep gabled roofs, and glass art windows distinguished Queen Anne houses from their predecessors.
In the period after the earthquake, the Victorians came to be regarded as impossibly oldfashioned, but beginning around 1960, owners began peeling off stucco, tearing off false fronts, reapplying custom woodwork, and commissioning multi-hued paint jobs. Before long, many of these houses had been restored to their former splendor.
Which of the following is NOT one of the author's purposes in writing the passage?
A.To talk about the restoration of Victorian houses in San Francisco in the 1960s.
B.To discuss housing problems in San Francisco today.
C.To briefly trace the history of Victorian houses in San Francisco.
D.To categorize the three types of Victorian houses found in San Francisco.

听力原文: As we flew in from the sea towards the airport, we passed over the city and I could easily make out many of the landmarks such as the main square and the new hospital. Following instructions, we put out our cigarettes, fastened our seat-belts and waited expectantly for the plane to begin landing. It was a quarter to four and we had reached our destination only a few minutes behind time. Instead of landing, however, the plane suddenly began to climb again and then headed out to sea. After that we flew round and round in wide circles. "Always some delay," murmured the old man in the seat next to me. "I have to deliver a lecture at five and at this rate I shall be late." Nobody around answered, and I stopped the airhostess as she was passing. "Nothing to worry about," she assured me, "it's just that there's so much traffic at the airport that we can't land yet." As the circling continued, the passengers grew restless. Somewhere at the back a child began to cry; the woman in front of me began to complain. After about twenty minutes or so, however, the plane flew back to its former path and began its slow descent towards the runway, touching down smoothly a few minutes later.

A.Because engine trouble started.
B.Because the runway couldn't be seen clearly.
C.Because the airport was not ready for the plane to land.
D.Because some traffic accident happened at the airport.
