Re: Thermostat located in your office
It has come to our attention that the thermostat located in your office is frequently being turned off. Please be aware that although this thermostat is located in your office, it actually controls the temperature on the entire second floor. When it is turned off, it affects not only your office, but all the surrounding offices as well. We ask that you not touch the thermostat. The other second floor tenants are complaining about the lack of heat in their offices.
If you wish to adjust the temperature in your office at any time, please speak with me or with one of my assistants. We would be happy to help you create an environment that is comfortable for you and your office staff, but please remember that we need to consider the comfort of everyone in the building. Thank you for your cooperation.
What is the problem?
A.Someone keeps turning off the thermostat.
B.There is no thermostat on the second floor.
C.The other tenants want a thermostat.
D.The second floor has enough heat.
When I was a kid, I never knew what my parents—or anyone else's—did for a living. As far as 1 could tell, all grownups had mysterious jobs that involved drinking lots of coffee and arguing about Richard Nixon. If they had job-related stress, they kept it private. Now American families are expected to be more intimate. While this has resulted in a lot more hugs, "I love you's," and attendance at kids' football games, unfortunately we parents also insist on sharing the frustrations of our work lives.
While we have complained about our jobs or fallen asleep in car-pool lines, our children have been noticing. They are worried about us. A new survey, "Ask the children, "conducted by the Families and Work Institute of New York City, queried more than 1, 000 kids between the ages of 8 and 18 about their parents' work lives. "If you were granted one wish to change the way your parents' work affected your life," the survey asked kids, "what would that wish be?" Most parents assumed that children would want more time with them, but only 10% did. Instead, the most common wish (among 34%) was that parents would be less stressed and tired by work.
Allison Levin is the mother of three young children and a professional in the growing field of "work/life quality". Levin counsels employees who are overwhelmed by their work and family obligations to carefully review their commitments-not only at the office but at home and in the community too—and start paring them down. "It's not about getting up earlier in the morning so you can get more done," she says. "It's about saying no and making choices."
We can start by leaving work, and thoughts of work, behind as soon as we start the trip home. Do something to get yourself in a good mood, like listening to music, rather than returning calls on the cell phone. When you get home, change out of your work clothes, let the answering machine take your calls, and stay away from e-mail. When your kids ask about your day, tell them about something good that happened. (In the survey, 69% of morns said they liked their work, but only 42% of kids thought their mothers really did.)
Parents can also de-stress by cutting back on their children's activities. If keeping up with your kid's schedule is killing you, insist that he choose between karate lessons and the theater troupe. Parents should also sneak away from work and family occasionally to have some fun. I keep a basketball in the trunk of my can. I might never be able to fix everything at work or at home, but at least I can work on my jump shot.
Which of the following sentences can be the best title of this passage?
A.Kids Say: Chill
B.Kids Stress Parents
C.Parents Complain about work
D.Parents Get in Good Mood

Dear Sir or Madam,
We have been informed by the Bank of Canada, Vancouver that you are one of the leading exporters of textiles in Chongqing and that you wish to extend your business to our market.
You might be pleased to know that we are importers of bed-sheets and other textile products, and have engaged in this particular line of business for more than twenty years.
At present, we are interested in your bed-sheets and shall be glad if you will kindly send us your latest price list for bed-sheets in various colors specifying(标明)sizes and designs. If possible, please also send us a sample-cutting book for our reference.
In the meantime, we think it necessary to stress the importance of the material of the bed-sheets used. In Vancouver only all-cotton bed-sheets are salable and any synthetic fibre is not in demand. If you are in a position to meet our demand, we think your products will enjoy popular sales in our market.
For your information, we would like to state that we usually pay for our imports by sight L/C(即期信用证) which, we feel sure, will be agreeable to you.
We anticipate your early reply.
Yours faithfully,
Johnson Smith

In the new century, the Asia-Pacific economic development is faced with both opportunities and challenges. The region-wide and world economic slowdown and particularly the September 11 attacks have added to the difficulties and uncertainties of our regional economy. Having said that, I wish to stress that in the long run, the Asia-Pacific economic prospect is broad and bright. As long as we seize the opportunities brought by economic globalization and scientific and technological revolution, stick to open regionalism, enhance regional cooperation and adopt strong macro-economic measures to speed up restructuring, we will be able to overcome difficulties and open up new dimensions for growth and prosperity in our region. China cannot develop in isolation of the world, and the world cannot achieve global prosperity without the development of China. China is an important member of the Asia- Pacific and international community. Over the past 20 years, China has maintained a sustained, rapid and healthy economic development. An all-directional opening-up pattern is basically up and running. In the new century, we will continue to adhere to our independent foreign policy of peace, which is aimed at promoting world peace and stability, common growth and prosperity. We will continue to develop friendly relations and cooperation with the rest of the world on the basis of equality, reciprocity and mutual benefit. And we will continue to pursue the policy of opening-up, deepen the reform and devote ourselves to economic development. China’s economy will converge with that of the world faster with more solid strides. 13. What happens to the Asia-Pacific economic development in the new century?
A、It is faced with both opportunities and challenges.
B、It comes across with a lot of serious problems.
C、It develops smoothly and rapidly.
D、It opens up new dimensions for growth and prosperity.
