第3题
听力原文: In the 74-year history of the Academy Awards, women have been nominated for best director exactly twice. Yet the motion picture academy would never consider creating a category for “best directress”.

Even in fields where there are more women, they tend to fare poorly against men. Of the 146 writers nominated for an Academy Award in the last decade, for example, only 16 have been women. No one favors separate awards for male and female screenwriters.

And if the idea is to recognize professionals who tend to be ignored in Hollywood, then there ought to be a separate award for black actors. You think women have it hard at Hollywood? Only three black actors have ever won the top award and only 15 have ever been nominated, compared with over 300 white actors.

The Academy Awards indulge in sexual difference because the Oscars are, first and foremost, about glamour. Actresses are more in the public eye than almost anyone else in Hollywood. No offense to the male actors in their black or white evening dress, but on Oscar night, it’s the women who bring the attraction. Audiences want to see this year’s dresses and hairstyles. Studios want female stars to help them sell tickets.

(33)

A.Hollywood and Academy awards.

B.Hollywood and sexual separation.

C.Actors and actresses.

D.Racial discrimination and sexual difference.

听力原文: Health food is a general term applied to all kinds of food that are considered more healthful than the types of foods widely sold in supermarkets. For instance, whole grains, fried beans, and corn oil are health foods. A narrower classification of health food is natural food, which is used to distinguish between types of the same food. Raw honey is a natural sweetener, whereas refined sugar is not. Fresh fruit is a natural food, but canned fruit, with sugars and other addictives, is not. The most precise term of all and the narrowest classification within health food is organic food, which is used to describe food that has been grown on a particular kind of farm. Fruits and vegetables that are grown in gardens that are only treated with organic fertilizers, that are not sprayed with poisonous insecticides, and that are not refined after harvest, are organic foods. Meats, fish, dairy and poultry products from animals that are fed only organically-grown feed and that are not injected with hormones are organic foods.

In choosing the type of food you eat, then, you have basically two choices: inorganic, processed foods, or organic, unprocessed foods. A wise decision should include investigation of the claims that processed foods contain chemicals, some of which are proven to be poisonous, and that vitamin content is greatly reduced in processed foods.

(30)

A.Refined food.

B.Processed food.

C.Natural food.

D.Organic food.

Directions: In this section, you will hear 3 short passages. At the end of each passage, you will hear some questions. Both the passage and the questions will be spoken only once. After you hear a question, you must choose the best answer from the four choices marked A, B, C and D.

听力原文: America is a country on the move. In unheard of numbers, people of all ages are exercising their way to better health. According to the latest figures, 59% of all American adults exercise regularly, up to 12% from just two years ago and more than double the figure of 25 years ago. Even non-exercisers believe they would be more attractive and confident if they were more active.

It is hard not to get the message. The virtues of physical fitness are shown on magazine covers, postage 11 stamps, and television ads for everything from beauty soaps to travel books. Exercise as a part of daily life did not catch on until the late 1960s when research by military doctors began to show the health benefits of doing regular physical exercise. Growing publicity for races held in American cities helped fuel a strong interest in the ancient sport of running.

Although running has leveled off in recent years as Americans have discovered equally rewarding and sometimes safer forms of exercise, such as walking and swimming, running remains the most popular form. of exercise.

As the popularity of exercise continues to mount, so does scientific evidence of its health benefits. The key to fitness is exercising the major muscle groups vigorously enough to approximately double the heart rate and keep it doubled for 20 to 30 minutes at a time. Doing such physical exercises three times or more a week will produce considerable improvements in physical health in about three months.

(27)

A.More than 12%.

B.Almost 50%.

C.Nearly 60%.

D.About 70%.

第8题
听力原文:W: What are you doing?

M: I’m ordering some filing cabinets out of a catalog.

W: What do you need them for?

M: There’s so much stuff piling up in my dormitory room. If I don’t do something soon, I won’t be able to move in there.

W: Do you usually order from a catalog?

M: Sometimes. Why?

W: Oh, it’s just in the history class today we were talking about how the catalog sales business first got started in the US. A Chicago retailer, Montgomery Ward started it in the late 1800s. It was really popular among farmers. It was difficult for them to make it to the big city stores so they ordered from catalogs.

M: Was Ward the only one in the business?

W: At first, but another person named Richard Sears started his own catalog after he heard how much money Ward was making.

M: What made them so popular?

W: Farmers trusted Ward and Sears for one thing. They delivered the products the farmers paid for and even refunded the price of things the farmers weren’t satisfied with. The catalog became so popular that in some counties school teachers even used them as textbooks.

M: Textbooks?

W: Yeah, students practice spelling the names and adding up the prices of things in the catalogs.

M: Was everybody that thrilled about it?

W: That’s doubtful. Say they drove some small store owners out of business. Sears and Ward sold stuff in such large quantities. They were able to undercut the prices at some small family owned stores.

(23)

A.The relationship between farmers, Ward and Sears.

B.The development of the catalog sales business.

C.The relationship between the catalog and textbooks.

D.The story of Chicago retailer.

第10题
听力原文:M: Right, I guess you’ve got some ideas for our product promotion.

W: Well, first we must win over the medical circle, so I thought we should launch a campaign in all the specialist medical journals to promote our drugs, antibiotics and so on.

M: Yes, that’s a good idea.

W: Then TV commercials.

M: Just a moment, are you sure we’re allowed to advertise medicines on TV?

W: Oh yes, provided they are not drugs which need a prescription. You can advertise over-the-counter products. We can get users of our products to recommend them —“Their lotion cured my disease in six days.” for example.

M: Now, hold on. It is forbidden to claim any positive cure for a disease. And we mustn’t offer any drugs for illness which should be treated by a doctor.

W: Hmm. OK. What about this—a series of full page newspaper ads with the message that most doctors consider our products the best.

M: That depends on whether it’s true.

W: Sure it is. But here is another suggestion. We could offer to return the purchase price to anyone who’s not satisfied with one of our products. It’s possible to do that, isn’t it?

M: No, I’m afraid not. Manufacturers of medical products are not allowed to promise a return of price in their ads.

W: Well, it looks as though I’ll have to come up with something else. I never realize the regulations were so tight.

(20)

A.What kind of medicine to develop.

B.When to advertise the drugs.

C.How to promote their products.

D.The regulations of medicine advertising.
