听力原文: A new study suggests that very young children who watch a lot of television may have attention problems later in school.

Children with attention problems cannot sit still or control their actions. They talk too much, lose things, forget easily and are not able to finish tasks.

The new study tested the idea that television watching by very young children is linked to attention problems by the age of seven. It involved more than 1,300 children. There were two groups of children, aged one and three. Researchers asked the parents how often the children watched television. The parents also described their children's actions at the age of seven using a method that can tell if someone suffers from attention problems.

The children who watched a lot of television at an early age were most likely to have attention problems. Every hour of watching television increased the chances of having attention problems by about ten percent. For example, children who watched three hours a day were thirty percent more likely to have attention problems than those who watched no television.

One of the researchers said there are other reasons why children should not watch television. Earlier studies have linked it with children becoming too fat and too aggressive. Other experts say the new study is important, but more work needs to be done to confirm the findings and better explain the cause and effect.

(30)

A.Attention problems.

B.Participating problems.

C.Communication problems.

D.Speaking problems.

听力原文: Almost every family buys at least one copy of a newspaper every day. Some people subscribe to as many as two or three different newspapers. But why do people read newspaper?

Five hundred years ago, news of important happenings—battles lost and won, kings or rulers overthrown or killed—took months and even years to travel from one country to another. The news passed by words of mouth and was never accurate. Today we can read in our newspapers of important events that occur in faraway countries on the stone day they happen.

Apart from supplying news from all over the world, newspapers give us a lot of other useful information. There are weather reports, radio, television and film guides, book reviews, stories, and of course, advertisements. There are all sorts of advertisements. The bigger ones are put in by large companies to bring attention to their products. They pay the newspapers thousands of dollars for the advertising space, but it is worth the money for the news of their products goes into every home in the country. For those who produce newspapers, advertisements are also very important. Money earned from advertisements makes it possible for them to sell their newspapers at a low price and still make a profit.

Newspapers often have information on gardening, cookery and fashion, as well as a small but very popular section on jokes and cartoons.

(30)

A.To make newspapers sell at low prices.

B.To make newspapers run profitably.

C.To make their products known to more people.

D.To sell their products at low prices.

听力原文: Could I have your attention please? Thank you.

As I told you this morning, this afternoon is our shopping afternoon. If you have a look at the back page of your tour prograrnme, you'll see a little map of the city centre, with the names of some of the shops marked. As you won't have too much time, I'm just going to explain to you what they sell.

We're now in the Friendship Shopping Centre. On your right is Larp's, a very good place for shoes and boots, rather than gloves, bags, clothes or others. Opposite that is Li-Ning, a good place for sports goods, not cheap, but really pretty. Next door to Li-Ning is a place for books. They have got books on almost every subject anyone has ever written about, airplanes to animals, but Chinese only — so none of your English books I'm afraid. If you walk along, there are shops which sell cameras, radios, and so on, which you won't buy, I'm afraid. If you are fired or would like to have a nice cup of afternoon tea, I suggest Splend Tea Shop, where you can have British afternoon tea, with very good home-made cakes, chocolates and others. The shop is two blocks away from here, but within walking distance.

What does the speaker do most probably?

A.He's a teacher.

B.He's a tour guide.

C.He's a shop-assistant.

听力原文: I grew up in Scotland. And that was where I first became interested in mu- sic. I've never been outside the country before I joined a rock group. Scot- land has no music industry as such. Everything in terms of the industry goes through London, which makes it quite difficult for Scottish artists to really attract any national attention in the United Kingdom. I think Scottish artists work just by themselves a lot of the time. Edinburgh is a very artistic city. It's sort of known as the artistic center of Scotland and also has quite any effect on the UK scene because it has an arts exhibition every summer and a film week every year. There are a lot of chances at that time for us to attract a huge following. There have always been a lot of popular music groups. The Scots are very friendly and really love to get together. Playing in the bars and cafes is a very common way of reaching the fans. They all sing a- long. There are a lot of great things coming out of Scotland now which is very exciting. It goes in waves. It's becoming quite common for the record companies to come north. And at the moment, I think Scotland is enjoying a sort of rebirth in a sense. With the huge success of Scottish artists over the last ten years, twenty years, they have to rethink. There's just a lot of new development and much more variety now than there was when I was fifteen.

What does the speaker mainly tell us about?

A.Music in Scotland.

B.Art events in the UK.

C.Music industry in London.

听力原文: As the proverb says, "No one knows the value of health until he loses it." In other words, nothing is more valuable than health.

It is clear that health is the foundation of one's future success. If you become sick, it is nearly impossible to pursue your career effectively, much less to make your dreams come true. On the other hand, if you are strong, you can go all out to overcome the obstacles that lie ahead of you. Health is the resource of our energy. What should we do to maintain our health? First, we should exercise every day to strengthen our muscles. Second, we might as well keep good hours, ff we get up early, we can breathe fresh air and see the sunrise. This habit can do wonders for our outlook on life. Third, there is a proverb that says, "Prevention is better than cure." ff you pay close attention to your health, you can avoid getting sick, or at least cure yourself of a disease while it is still in its beginning stage.

In conclusion, health is more important than wealth. Those who are rich but poor in health are on more fortunate than those who are poor, but healthy in body. If you want your wish to come true, health is the most important component of your success.

(30)

A.Wealth.

B.Health.

C.Habit.

D.Disease.
