Passage 4
Are all your photographs good? Be honest with yourself. Aren ’t some of your pictures too dark, and others too light? How many times have you thrown away a photo? We, the Fine Photograph Club, can help you. We meet every Wednesday in our comfortable club room in Bridge Street. At 7:30 p.m. a member of the club or a visitor would give a talk, and then we have coffee. Our members will advise you on all the latest cameras and films. They will help you to develop your films or enlarge your pictures. What does it all cost? Only 5 pounds a year.
Photography is now a big business. Do you know, for instance, that there are 15 million cameras in our country? And that 700 million photographs are taken a year, more than one-third of them in color? Think of the amount of photography in television, the cinema, newspapers, books, advertisements and so on. In modern life people learn a lot from pictures, so photography is more and more important. It is also more complicated and more expensive than it used to be. You may only want to take good photographs of faces and places. If so, we can help you to get better results. You needn’t waste any more money. If you want to learn more about photography and how it is used, join the club please. You won’t be disappointed. Write now to the Secretary, Fine Photograph Club. Bridge Street.

听力原文: Many suffer from shyness. In order to give other people a chance to know more about you, you need to get over it. Then how to control shyness?
First, make decisions not to hold back in conversations. What you have to say is just as important as what other people say. And don't turn down party invitations just because of your shyness.
Second, prepare yourself for being with others in groups. Make a list of the good qualities you have. Then make a list of ideas, experiences, and skills you would like to share with other people. Think about what you would like to say in advance. Then say it.
Third, if you start feeling self-conscious in a group, take a deep breath and focus your attention on other people. Remember, you are not alone. Other people are concerned about the impression they are making, too. Don't be afraid to speak up and give your: point of view. Moreover, remember everyone experiences failures and disappointments. Profit them as lessons instead of frustrations.
As each of us is an individual, we behave in our own personal ways. No one gets over being shy completely, but most people do learn to live with their shyness. Even entertainers admit that they often feel shy. They work at fighting their shy feelings so they can face the cameras and the public.

M: How come?
W: Well, I was really happy to be writing a detective story. But after the first few pages, I sort of froze up mentally. I just couldn't write any more.
M: The same thing happened to me. I thought it meant I lack imagination.
W: Well, Professor Wilson said it's pretty common for writers to get stuck like that.
M: You went to talk to her about it?
W: Actually, I went to ask for more time to finish the assignment. But instead she gave me some advice about how to keep from getting stalled writing like that. She said that the first thing I should do is just write anything that comes into my head even if it doesn't make any sense, sort of warm up exercise.
M: That is interesting. When I got stuck, I shift to something else, you know, do some work for one of my other courses.

M: You are going shopping? Can't you wait until you finish your story?
W: I am going there for my story. My detective solves a jewelry store robbery, so I want to take a look at how the jewelry eases are arranged, where the security cameras are located, that sort of thing.
