Mr. Green gets up very early every day and eats a quick breakfast. Then he makes his wife drive him to the station. He arrives on time, but his train doesn't. The conductor makes his way through the crowd and asks for the commuter's ticket. The ticket, of course, is buried deep in the poor man's breast pocket. He digs for it. The conductor waits impatiently.
Finally the train reaches the city. Mr. Green is already worn out. He says to himself, "My God, I feel as if I've been through a war!"

Ruth: I think it is wrong in principle because you are getting something for nothing. I mean, no one has said that you can take company stationery and you are not paying for it. Also, you are doing it in the time when you are being paid to work.
Martin: But you are talking about absolute standards of honesty which don't exist. Nobody, however high their standards are, can claim to be absolutely pure. Most people take office stationery, don't pay train fares-that kind of thing.
Ruth: But that doesn't mean that you need to lower your standards because everybody else does. Legally, you should pay that fare whether the conductor asked for it or not.
