A long-range health study in Framingham, Massachusetts, which began in 1948 and continues
to this day, involves checking those who remain alive among the same 5,200 men and women every two years and care- fully determining the cause of any deaths occurring in the group. A rather astonishing conclusion that became known in 1980 was that the lightest men had the shortest life expectancy while the only others for whom weight seemed to have a significant opposite effect on life expectancy were those who weighed more than 25 percent above the national average. Much the same was true of women, with those in the lightest and heaviest groups dying earliest. These results certainly threw many doubts on the validity of the "Ideal Weights' tables in use since the 40th which speak in favor of weight to height ratios well below the national average. Indeed, they suggest that if any such ideal exists, it is slightly above the average, whatever fashion may be.

The most suitable title for the passage would be ______.

A.The Framingham Health Study

B.5,200 Men and Women Can't be Wrong

C.Fashion is Wrong about Weight

D.Weight and life Expectancy: Unexpected Proof

An ideal college should be a community, a place of close, natural, intimate association,

not only of the young men who are its pupils and novices in various lines of study, but also of young men with older men, with maturer men, with veterans and professionals in the great undertaking of learning, of teachers with pupils, outside the classroom as well as inside it.No one is successfully educated within the walls of any particular classroom or laboratory or museum, and no amount of association, however close and familiar and delightful, between mere beginners can ever produce the sort of enlightenment which the young lad gets when he first begins to catch the infection of learning. The trouble with most of our colleges nowadays is that the faculty of the college live one life and the undergraduates quite a different one. They constitute two communities. The life of the undergraduates is not touched with the personal influence of the teachers; life among the teachers is not touched by the personal impressions which should come from frequent and intimate contact with undergraduates. This separation need not exist, and, in the college of the ideal university, would not exist.

It is perfectly possible to organize the life of our colleges in such a way that students and teachers alike will take part in it, in such a way that a perfectly natural daily intercourse will be established between them, and it is only by such an organization that they can be given real vitality as places of serious training, be made communities in which youngsters will come fully to realize how interesting intellectual work is, how vital, how important, how closely associated with all modern achievement------only by such an organization that study can be made to seem part of life itself.Lectures often seem very formal and empty things, recitations generally prove very dull and unrewarding. It is in conversation and natural intercourse with scholars chiefly that you find how lively knowledge is, how it ties into everything that is interesting and important, how intimate a part it is of everything that is ‘practical'and connected with the world.Men are not always made thoughtful by books, but they are generally made thoughtful by association with men who think.

1.An ideal college ()

A.should provide mature, experienced and professional men.

B.should be managed by experienced scholars.

C.should be managed by experienced scholars and energetic young men.

A.classrooms, laboratories and museums.

B.all sources.

C.intimate association between beginners.

When human talents are viewed as resources and even assets to a corporation, the title of Department of Personnel is changed to Department of Human Resources, or HR. HR is such a fashionable title, but few of us really understand it as it is, which refers to the individuals within the firm, and to the portion of the firm's organization that deals with hiring, firing, training, and other personnel issues. And the hiring part will be the focus of what we talk about here.

The first step for hiring someone to work for a certain corporation is to analyze the job or the position, so that the kind of abilities, competencies of the ideal candidate will be determined. What should be reminded at this stage it is important to consider the factors outside of the corporation that would make a difference about the recruiting, such as current and future trends of the labor market e. g. skills, education level, government investment into industries etc..

After analyzing the job, it comes to the stage of providing a clear and easy-to-understand job description. When it comes to recruiting, several ways could be used, such as job centers, employment agencies/consultants, headhunting, and local or national media. Choosing a suitable media is crucial here, you definitely do not want to advertise your opening position on a national media if it is a position of sales manager assistant in a remote county distribution center.

Though human resources have been part of business and organizations since the first days of agriculture, the modern concept of human resources began in the early 1900s. By 1920, psychologists and employment experts in the United States started the human relations movement, which viewed workers in terms of their psychology and fit with companies, rather than as interchangeable parts.

Nowadays, more factors are considered when choosing a suitable employee, not only should the candidate have the proper abilities and qualifications, personalities are also evaluated to predict how well the candidate will interact with the others employees. For some important positions, like the ones in management, the recognition of the corporations' culture is also a key factor to decide who the best choice is.

What is this passage mainly about?

A.Human Resources.

B.Recruiting Employees.

C.Employee Re-training.

D.Personnel Management.
