M: Yes, you must, really. If you're writing the classical detective story, because it must be so carefully plotted and so carefully clued. I have schemes. I have charts. I have diagrams. It doesn't mean to say I always get it right, but I do plan before I begin writing. But what is so fascinating is how a book changes during the process of writing. It seems to me that creative writing is a process of revelation, really, rather than of creativity in the ordinary sense.
W: When you're planning the basic structure, do you like to go away to be sure that you're by yourself？
M: I need to be by myself certainly, absolutely. I can't even bare anybody else in the house. I don't mind much where I am as long as I' ve got enough space to write, but I need to be completely alone. W: Is that very important to you？
M: Oh, yes. I've never been lonely in all my life.
W: How extraordinary! Never？
M: No, never.
W: You're very lucky. Someone once said that there's a bit of ice at the heart of every writer.
M: Yes. I think this is true.The writer can stand aside from experience and look at it, watch it happening. There is this "detachment" and I realize that there are obviously experiences which would overwhelm everyone. But very often, a writer can appear to stand aside, and this detachment makes people feel there's a bit of ice in the heart.

Ruth: I think it is wrong in principle because you are getting something for nothing. I mean, no one has said that you can take company stationery and you are not paying for it. Also, you are doing it in the time when you are being paid to work.
Martin: But you are talking about absolute standards of honesty which don't exist. Nobody, however high their standards are, can claim to be absolutely pure. Most people take office stationery, don't pay train fares-that kind of thing.
Ruth: But that doesn't mean that you need to lower your standards because everybody else does. Legally, you should pay that fare whether the conductor asked for it or not.
Martin: Some people feel that because transport is publicly owned, they somehow have the right to cheat. Some people go even further by saying they are paying tax, and they can cheat anybody who has any connection with rates, taxes or anything.

听力原文： One of the first questions anybody asks about a newborn is, "What is the baby's name？" Faced with this tiny pink newborn, we want to put a name to it; as if by doing so, we welcome it to this world of individuals. We always name the things we love; a small child will give names to even his tiniest toys, or his well-chewed blanket. And the difference between "Blankie" and the blanket is an entire personality.
There are many ways to choose a name for a baby. One of the most common is to use an old family name. If the family tie is strong enough, parents are often willing to overlook an unpleasant feeling or meaning. If all the men for five generations have been named Brendan, who are you to complain that the name means "smelly hair？"
But inspiration need not be limited to the family tree. Pick an attribute; pick the name of the Italian city where the baby was born. Name the baby after your favorite poet, or an interesting saint.
It can be difficult to find the perfect name for your baby, but the beauty of the process is this: by the time the baby is a few months old, his personality erases all other associations the name may hold. The evil snake, or the much loved poet, fades away; and the name becomes quite simply the name of your child; and you will have made the right choice.

M: Let me put one little kiss on those holmberry lips, Tanya, or even on that warmed cheek, and I'll stop my honour, I will!
W: Will nothing else do？
M: Nothing, dear Tanya.
W: But I don't want anybody to kiss me! And I wouldn't have come if I had known!
