Bedwetting

Millions of kids and teenagers from every part of the world wet the bed every single night. It's so common that there are probably other kids in your class who do it. Most kids don't tell their friends, so it's easy to feel kind of alone, like you might be the only one on the whole planet who wets the bed.(46)

The fancy name for bedwetting is nocturnal enuresis. Enuresis runs in families. This means that if you urinate, or pee, while you are asleep, there's a good chance that a close relative also did it when he or she was a kid.(47)

The most important' thing to remember is that no one wets the bed on purpose, It doesn't mean that you're lazy or a slob.(48)For some reason, kids who wet the bed are not able to feel that their bladder is full and don't wake up to pee in the toilet. Sometimes a kid who wets the bed will have a realistic dream that he's in the bathroom peeing — only to wake up later and discover he's all wet. Many kids who wet the bed are very deep sleepers.(49)

Some kids who wet the bed do it every single night. Others wet some nights and are dry on others. A lot of kids say that they seem to be drier when they sleep at a friend's or a relative's house.(50)So the brain may be thinking, "Hey, you! Don't wet someone else's bed!" This can help you stay dry even if you're not aware of it.

A The good news is that almost all kids who wet the bed eventually stop.

B Trying to wake up someone who wets the bed is often like trying to wake a log — they just stay asleep.

C It's something you can't help doing.

D Just like you may have inherited your mom's blue eyes or your uncle's long legs, you probably inherited bedwetting, too.

E That's because kids who are anxious about wetting the bed may not sleep much or only very lightly.

F But you are not alone.

188. Is it difficult for you to get up in the morning? Do you sometimes oversleep? Are you often late for work or school? Yes? Then Hiroyuki Sugiyama of Japan has a special bed for you. Hiroyuki’s bed will get you up in the morning! Here is how it works: The bed is connected to an alarm clock. First, the alarm clock rings. You have a few minutes to wake up. Next, a tape recorder in the bed plays soft music or other pleasant sounds. A few minutes later, a second recording plays. The second recording can be loud music or unpleasant sounds. If you don’t get up after the second recording, you’ll be sorry. A mechanical “foot” is in the bed. The mechanical foot kicks you in the head. Then the bed waits a few more minutes. What! You’re still in bed! Slowly, the top of the bed rises higher and higher. The foot of the bed goes lower and lower. Finally, the bed is vertical. You slide off the bed and onto the floor. You are awake and out of bed. Hiroyuki made his bed because he wanted to win a contest. He works for Honda Motor Company. Once every two years, Honda has a contest—the “All Honda Idea Contest”. In 1996 Hiroyuki won a prize for his bed. [共5题]

On Being a Matchmaker The first thing I do when I wake up is to make a mental list of all

On Being a Matchmaker

The first thing I do when I wake up is to make a mental list of all things I have to do that day. I'm very organized! Then I get up and have my bath. Often my best matchmaking(媒人) ideas come while I'm in the bath. Sometimes I have a really good idea about who might be good with whom.

Before I did matchmaking, I was a social worker, but I knew I wanted to do something without bosses telling me what to do and that I am good at dealing with people. Also I had seen too many broken marriages and too many people go downhill because they were so lonely. So I gave up my job, did a bit of research and started the matchmaking business in 1970.

Over the last few years we've been doing introductions throughout Europe as well as here in Britain. Europeans want to meet British people. For every 100 people who come to us, a bout 65 will settle down. We keep going until clients (委托人) find someone that they get on very well with. We're great triers. Of course there are impossible people, those who will never settle...

Sometimes I end up giving advice to clients. A few months ago, we had a highly paid scientist with a very nice face, but every woman refused to meet him a second time. It soon be came clear that he did not like changing his shirts. So I had to be very honest and frank and told him, "But a woman can't start to love you if your shirt smells." The job is most satisfying when I get a call from a couple telling me they have fallen in love.

What does the author mean by saying "I'm very organized"?

A.She is especially capable of organizing things.

B.She has a fixed plan for her everyday activities.

C.She likes to remember things she has to do.

D.She always finishes what she does on time.
