听力原文:M: What did you think about the video we were supposed to watch for Professor Ste
phen' s class?

W: I didn't see it. Was it good?

M: Really it was. It was about stress, the effects of stress on the national health.

W: It was interesting, right?

M: Yes. I think they said that one out of nine women aged 45 to 65 will have a heart attack.

W: I' m surprised at that.

M: I was too. Oh, another thing. They said that women usually don' t get the same level of care as men do, so the heart attack is likely to be more serious.

W: Why is that?

M: Because many members of the medical profession still think of a heart attack as a male problem, so they don' t recognize the symptoms in women patients.

W: Well, it does sound very interesting. I' m going to try to see it before class next time, so I'll be ready for the discussion.

(23)

A.It is required by Professor Stephen.

B.It is very interesting.

C.He wants to know about heart attacks.

D.He took part in the discussion.

Section D Directions: Read the following text about the young generation’s performance in their jobs and choose “True” or “False” for sentences 26-35. The Young Generation Performs Better Many younger people are better when it comes to getting the job done than older ones. At least that is what management expert Stephen Denning says in his book “The Leader’s Guide to Radical Management ”. The role of managers has changed in today’s world. While the manager of the 20th century had to supervise people and teach them how to do things, today’s managers have to motivate their workers and get them to like their job. Denning points out that there are some areas where younger people fulfill these requirements better. For one, they are able to find information faster than older workers, who are not that familiar with how the Internet works. They can download data faster and install software quicker than older colleagues. A Stanford study has shown that younger people can write and communicate better than older ones, simply because they have been doing it since they were children. The study says that texting messages and staying online most of the time improves your communication skills. The younger generation is more mobile and flexible when it comes to changing jobs. They can adapt more easily to the changing world and take on jobs that do not depend on experience alone. Many young people start their own businesses if they find out that they can’t find a job. They often do this with little or no money at all. They often choose part-time jobs, just for the sake of being employed. Younger people have found out that there is no such thing as a secure job. And being older and more experienced is no longer the key to success. Many young people don’t care so much about how much money they earn and how fast they can climb up the ladder of success. They care about their quality of life. 41. What information does Stephen Denning’s book convey to readers?

A、Young men can perform better in their jobs.

B、Young men are superior to older ones.

C、Young men get better jobs than older ones.

D、Young men always fail to complete their tasks.

Have you ever thought about what determines the way we are as we grow up? Remember the TV
program "Seven Up"? It started following the lives of a group of children in 1963. We first meet them as wide-eyed seven-year-olds and then catch up with them at seven-year intervals: nervous 14-year-olds, serious 21 -year-olds, then grown-ups.

Some of the stories are inspiring, others sad, but what is interesting in almost all the cases is the way in which the children's early hopes and dreams are shown in their future lives. For example, at seven, Tony is a lively child who says he wants to become a sportsman or a taxi driver. When he grows up, he goes on to do both. How about Nicki? She says," I'd like to find out about the moon." And she goes on to become a space scientist. As a child, soft-spoken Bruce says he wants to help "poor children" and ends up teaching in India.

But if the lives of all the children had followed this pattern the program would be far less interesting than it actually was. It was the children whose childhood did not prepare them for what was to come that made the program so inspiring. Where did their ideas come from about what they wanted to do when they grew up? Are children influenced by what their parents do, by what they see on television, or by what their teachers say? How great is the effect of a single important event? Many film directors, including Stephen Spielberg, say that an early visit to the cinema was the turning point in their byes. Dr. Margaret McAllister, who has done a tot of research in this area, thinks that the major influences are parents, friends, and the wider society.

What does the text mainly discuss?

A.New ways to make a TV program interesting.

B.The importance of television programs to children.

C.Different ways to make childhood dreams come true.

D.The influence of childhood experience on future lives.
