Flight officials with the space agency NASA are aware of storm clouds near the Atlantic coast launch site in Florida, which could postpone the launch. This is the second shuttle flight since Columbia disintegrated on reentry three years ago, killing all seven astronauts on board. Since then NASA has spent hundreds of millions of dollars to correct design flaw that caused a piece of foam insulation to break off from the fuel tank and puncture Columbia's wing. NASA is launching Discovery despite objections by the space agency's chief safety officer and chief engineer. They say the problems with the foam insulation have still not been resolved. Shuttle astronaut Steve Robinson says he is not worried. "The thing like this happened to every single flight and what's really great -- you remember how much we talked about culture change after Columbia. This is culture change. You are seeing it."
The space agency's chief safety officer ______ NASA's plan to launch Discovery.
A.vetoed
B.sanctioned
C.supported

听力原文: I'd like to talk to you about a television program that's going to be shown tonight, and that I want you all to watch. It will present work that's currently being done by geologists off the coast of Hawaii. The only active underwater volcano in the U. S. is located there. It's growing and may reach the surface of the ocean in about 50, 000 years—not very long from now in geological time. Anyway, geologists are setting up an unmanned observatory at the top of this volcano, which is located about 70 miles southeast of Hawaii and about 3, 000 feet below the surface of the ocean. They plan to install seismometers, thermal sensors, chemical detectors, video cameras, and other equipment to monitor the volcano's activities. Then they'll hook up an electric cable between the observatory and the mainland so they can receive information electronically from these instruments. Geologists are pretty excited about this project, and I hope you are too. It ties in very nicely with the work we've been doing in class on volcanoes. Watch the program about it tonight, and be prepared to discuss it tomorrow.
Who is the speaker?
A.A television announcer.
B.A member of a research team.
C.A teacher.
D.A network executive.

No matter what action is taken, scientists say there are already enough greenhouse gases in the atmosphere to cause a major warning. As a result, scientists and government officials are focusing on how society might adapt to rising sea levels, changing agricultural zones, changing climates and other problems.
Already, state and local governments along the coast of the United States are starting to plan for a possible longterm rise in the sea level, and a few have taken action to cope with it. Agricultural researchers are developing heat-resistant and draught-resistant crops that might replace traditional crops if the climate changes. How long it will take for maximum warming to be reached is uncertain because the oceans slow such warming. Most scientists expect the maximum warming to take place by the second half of this century.
If levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere double, sea levels will rise; estimates of the average rise are from 1.5 feet to 6.5 feet. Some leading experts expect a rise of I meter, a little more than three feet.
(33)
A.Pollution of coastal areas.
B.Rise in sea levels.
C.Exhaustion of sea resources.
D.Earthquakes and volcanoes.
【单选题】Search and Rescue In the unlikely event that an aircraft crashes, a pilot should be very aware of search and rescue procedures, and what pilots do can improve survival odds(生存概率). What does the term “search and rescue” mean? After a crash, how can pilots best utilize the resources available to accomplish the survival goal? We need to distinguish between these two key words: search and rescue. If rescue personnel don’t know where crashed aircraft is, it’s a search. If they do know where it is, then it’s a rescue. We will discuss what pilots can do to help in the search phase. The key to survival is to shorten the time from the crash to rescue. Obviously, if the rescue team doesn’t know the location, then it will take a lot longer for them to find it. How much longer? The average time from the last known position (LKP) to rescue is 31 hours. Since this is an average, one could be a survivor for a few hours or a few days. To assure that the LKP is known, as a pilot, the key survival effort begins by filing a flight plan. It is a road map of the inflight movements and is the cheapest insurance available. How cheap? It’s free. The types of flight plans filed will greatly affect the time pilots may have to survive during a search phase. It’s important to understand how the rescue personnel are put into action. When an aircraft is overdue, missing, or sends a radio distress call, the National Search and Rescue Plan is activated. There are many organizations and volunteers associated with Search and Rescue (SAR), but the Federal Government assumes overall responsibility. The National SAR plan designates the U.S. Coast Guard as responsible for maritime SAR and the U.S. Air Force for inland SAR. All SAR activities in the contiguous 48 states are coordinated through the full-time Air Force Rescue Coordination Center (AFRCC) at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. When a call on a missing or overdue aircraft is received by the Center, the National SAR Plan is activated. (348 words) QUESTION 1: What are the differences between search and rescue
