听力原文:F: Hallo. IBM Sales and Service, Kate Scott speaking.

M: Good morning, Mrs. Scott, Robert Harvey of New York Life here.

F: How do you spell your name, please?

M: Robert Harvey. That is R-O-B-E-R-T, H-A-R-V-E-Y.

F: Oh ... hello, Mr. Harvey, what can I do for you?

M: We bought an IBM-R50 from you about four months ago and we're having some problems with it.

F: Can you tell me what the main problem is, Mr. Harvey?

M: I don't think that it's anything major. It just seems that the quality of the printouts could be better.

F: I see. Has your staff been given instruction on how to operate the machine?

M: I don't believe we've had any formal instruction yet, Mrs. Scott.

F: That's strange. I'll send a service operator over. If you'd like, he could also give your staff some instruction on how to use your new IBM-R50.

M: That sounds fine.

F: When would it be convenient for you?

M: How about Wednesday at three in the afternoon?

F: That would be possible. I'll send you a confirmation of that appointment.

M: Thanks a lot. Bye, Mrs. Scott.

F: Thanks for calling, Mr. Harvey. Bye.

听力原文:M:How are your new neighbors, Nancy?

W:They seem nice enough, but they have a son who's driving me crazy

M: What do you mean?

W: He comes home every night around 10 with his car windows rolled down and his radio blaring. It stops as soon as he turns the car off. But by then Brian and Lisa are wide awake.

M: Oh, no.

W: Oh, yes. Sometimes it takes us till midnight just to get them to settle down again.

M: Have you tried talking to them?

W: We haven't even really met them yet except to say a quick hallo. I hate to get off on the wrong foot.

M: You are not going to like them when you do meet them if you keep on simmering.

W: I know, but I feel stupid complaining. It's not as though he's blasting his stereo all night.

M: You said yourself it is driving you crazy.

W: Well, You know how early I have to get up to be here at the office, I'm just not getting enough sleep and neither are the kids. They're so irritable when I get home in the afternoon.

M: Maybe you could go over there sometime with a little gift: a plant for the yard or something. Then you could ask their son whether they have any other children and they'll be sure to ask about yours.

W: Yeah, and then what?

M: Then you could mention that the hardest thing at this stage is getting your kids to go to sleep at night.

W: And keeping them in the asleep.

M: That's the idea. And you should do it soon. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to do politely.

(20)

A.He drives too fast.

B.He plays his guitar too loudly.

C.His radio wakes her children up.

D.His friends are too noisy.

听力原文: Lenovo Group has agreed to pay US $1.25 billion for IBM's personal computer business, lifting China's largest PC maker to third in global rankings and giving it a globally recognized brand.

Lenovo will pay US $600 million in cash and US $ 650 million in stock, Lenovo chief executive Yang Yuanqing said at a press conference in Beijing.

Lenovo will also assume US $ 500 million of debt. IBM will hold an 18.9 percent stake in Hong Kong-listed Lenovo after the acquisition, which is expected to be completed in the second quarter. The purchase vaults Lenovo from eighth place among PC makers, giving the company a leg up. in a global market now dominated by US manufacturers Dell and Hewlett-Packard.

"It's a good move for IBM," said Jason Maxwell, an analyst at Los Angeles-based TCW Group, which owns IBM shares. "It fits with their decade-old strategy of disinvesting in those areas where they don't have an advantage." IBM sold its hard-disk drive business in 2002 after the technology behind the products became widely available and easy to copy, leading to depressed profits. The same thing has happened in PCs as consumers use new items such as mobile phones to access the Internet. IBM, which made its first PC in 1981 and won orders by catering to businesses, retreated from selling its Aptiva PCs to retailers in the US in 1999 and decided to sell over the Internet.

Lenovo, based in Beijing, will reap benefits of the world's third most recognized brand-- IBM's brand name is worth US $53.8 billion, according to a survey by Interbrand.

How much will Lenovo pay in cash to purchase IBM?

A.US $ 1.75 billion.

B.US $ 1.25 billion.

C.US $ 0.6 billion.

D.US $ 0.5 billion.

听力原文:On September 13,1956, IBM shipped the first unit of the RAMAC, in other words, Ra
ndom Access Method of Accounting and Control. The RAMAC, designed in Big Blue's San Jose, Calif., research center would have made a lousy music player. The drive weighed a full ton, and to lease it you'd pay about $250,000 a year in today's dollars. Since it required a separate air compressor to protect the two moving "heads" that read and wrote information, it was noisy. The total amount of information stored in its 50 spinning iron-oxide-coated disks-- each of them a pizza-size 24 inches -- was 5 megabytes.

Which of the following is true according to the passage?

A.The drive weighed a full ton.

B.The IBM research center planned to make a music player.

C.Its 24 spinning disks could store only S megabytes of information.

D.The price for renting the RAMAC was $260,000 a year.
