Remember when your mom used to cut up your food? Circe, a show dolphin, won't eat fish unless someone cuts the fins (鱼鳍) off. Diana Reiss, a scientist who worked with Circe, knew that. But one day she forgot.
Reiss was training Circe to "stay at station" in front of her. Every time the dolphin swam off, Reiss gave her a time-out by backing away from the side of the pool and standing at a distance. When Circe stayed, Reiss fed her a piece of fish. But then she gave her a piece with fins by mistake.
Circe looked at Reiss, spat(吐) out the fish, and swam across the pool. She took an upright position in the water and simple "stood" there. Circe was communicating (交流) loud and clear. "I felt as if I had gotten the time-out! " says Reiss.
Another dolphin, Pete, enjoyed his meals of fish served up by his trainer. But a wild bird started to show up at every feeding to steal some of the dolphin's supper. Pete was definitely not happy about that.
One day when Pete's trainer gave him frozen fish, Pete let them sink to the bottom of his pool. Between shows he dived down and pushed eight fish up to the surface, and managed to keep all of them afloat. For five minutes, the bird watched anxiously. Finally, the bird took the bait. When it did, Pete caught the bird's feet and pulled it underwater! Then took care of that little thief.

M: I'm sorry I'm late, Janet. It has been a real mess this morning. I didn't think I was going to make it here at all.
W: But why are you late? You know our whole presentation depends on the graphs you're holding.
M: Yes, I'11 tell you later about it. Thank God. There are still two groups ahead of us. The one being giving now is on the rights of the consumer and analysis of the stock market.
W: Yes. But James! You do look cold! You are shivering! What happened?
M: I've been standing outside in freezing temperature for over an hour, waiting for the bus.
W: Over an hour? But isn't your apartment only a ten-minute bus ride to our school?
M: Yes. But the bus this morning was delayed because of the weather. And when I stepped into a drug-store to call home for a ride, the bus went by. And there was no one at home! So I had to wait another 40 minutes for the next bus to come.
W: That's too bad, isn't it?
M: Yeah. Well, Janet, we'd better stop talking. People are turning around and looking at US.

Books are steadily increasing in size: the average number of pages has grown by 25% over the last 15 years. A study of more than 2500 books appearing on New York Times bestseller reveals that the average length has increased from 320 pages in 1999 to 400 pages in 2014. According to James Finlayson, who carried out the survey, there ’s a “relatively consistent pattern of grow th year on year ”. For Finlayson, much of this shift can be explained by the industry ’s shift towards digital. He says “When you pick up a large book in a shop, you can sometimes be intimidated, but if you have a big book on a Kindle (eBook ), that’s not a consideration. ”
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) says it expects the world economy to grow more than 4% both this year and next. Its chief economist says these could be the best two years since the early 1990s.
But the IMF also says interest rates are very low and will have to rise in the future. When rates are low, more people borrow money to buy things like homes and businesses. Prices increase. The IMF says property values in Britain and some other countries may be too high now. However, it warns that prices could fall sharply if interest, rates rise too fast. Some countries also worry that large United States budget deficits (赤字) could harm the current recovery. The Bush administration says it will cut those deficits.
The World Bank and IMF held their spring meetings last week in Washington where they are based. This year is their sixtieth anniversary. Protests outside were mostly peaceful. And they were smaller than before. Protesters called on rich nations to cancel the debt of poor ones. A report by the IMF and World Bank says private investment in developing countries is again increasing. The report says money is flowing to Brazil, China, Mexico and Russia. But it says poorer nations, especially in Africa, are not part of this growth.
Before the meetings, World Bank President James Wolfensohn said the world is out of balance. He said one sixth of the population owns eighty percent of the wealth. At the same time, another one in sixth people lives in extreme poverty. Mr. Wolfensohn urged developed countries to open their markets and increase aid. He also urged developing nations to improve their governments and to build good legal and financial systems.

A growing number of these attractions now allow customers to print e-tickets at home with large discounts off the gate price, in part to spur attendance that has declined in recent years.
After boom times in the late 1990s, theme park attendance began to decrease, with an overall decline of about 400% over the past few years at North America's 50 most-visited establishments, says James Zoltak, editor of Amusement Business.
"The boom was off the rose as we turned the comer into 2000, so there's more discounting now", he says.
Discounting isn't new to an industry that has longer partnered with other commercial enterprises, such as soft drink companies, to offer deals. But e-ticketing adds a new opportunity that not only brings savings but convenience as well, since it allows visitors to avoid the line at the gate.
"If you can get in early before the lines fill up, you're getting more for your money", says Robert Niles of the website Theme Park Insider.
The word "attractions"(Line 1, Paragraph 2) refers to______.
A.theme parks
B.bargains
C.e-tickets
D.discounts
