W: Really? Don't you feel it enjoyable and quite beneficial?
M: No, I just feel it's a waste of time.
W: I can't see eye to eye with you. No matter what you think, I still believe class discussion is a good way of teaching and learning. As you know, class discussion can get us students more involved in what is being studied rather than sit there and listen all the time. We have a chance to speak our minds and share what we know about the subjects. Don't you feel the same way?
M: Well, in a way what you said is true, but I'd rather listen to what the professor knows about the subjects, for he is expected to be better informed. I don't think there is any point in wasting our time listening to other students who are as ignorant as us.
W: We may be ignorant in many aspects compared to the professor. But our opinions and experiences are also worth listening to and learning from. As the proverb goes, four eyes see more than two.
M: Sure, I understand many hands make light work. But some students are often dominant and aggressive in the discussion and do not respect others' right to speak. I hate those self-important and irritating fellows.
W: I admit there are such moments in class discussion. But we should do justice to class discussion though some students fail to behave themselves and focus on the topic.

B.It is enjoyable.
C.It benefits the class.
D.It is good but needs improving.
Human cloning (克隆) technology could be used to reverse heart attacks. Scientists believe that they may be able to treat heart attack victims by cloning their healthy heart cells and injecting them into the areas of the heart that have been damaged, and other problems may be solved if human cloning and its technology are not forbidden.
With cloning, infertile couples could have children. Current treatments for infertility, in terms of percentages (百分比) , are not very successful. Couples go through physically and emotionally painful procedures for a small chance of having children. Many couples run out of time and money without successfully having children. Human cloning could make it possible for many more infertile couples to have children than ever before. We should be able to clone the bone marrow (骨髓) for children and adults suffering from leukemia (白血病). It is expected to be one of the first benefits to come from cloning technology.
We may learn how to switch cells on and off through cloning and thus be able to cure cancer. Cloning technology can be used to test for and perhaps cure gene-related diseases. The above are just a few examples of what human cloning technology can do for mankind.
This new technology promises unprecedented advancement in medicine if people will release their fears and let the benefits begin.
Heart attacks can be treated with human cloning technology by______.
A.removing the damaged part of the heart
B.replacing the old heart with a cloned one
C.repairing the heart with cells cloned from healthy ones
D.giving the patients injections of various medicines
听力原文:W: Hello, Gary. How're you?
M: Fine! And yourself?
W: Can't complain. Did you have time to look at my proposal?
M: No, not really. Can we go over it now?
W: Sure. I've been trying to come up with some new production and advertising strategies (19). First of all, if we want to stay competitive, we need to modernize our factory. New equipment should've been installed long ago(20).
M: How much will that cost?
W: We have several options ranging from one hundred thousand dollars all the way up to half a million.
M: OK. We'll have to discuss these costs with finance.
W: We should also consider human resources. I've been talking to personnel as well as our staff at the factory.
M: And what's the picture?
W: We'll probably have to hire a couple of engineers to help us modernize the factory(21).
M: What about advertising?
W: Marketing has some interesting ideas for television commercials.
M: TV? Isn't that a bit too expensive for us? What's wrong with advertising in the papers, as usual?
W: Quite frankly, it's just not enough anymore(22). We need to be more aggressive in order to keep ahead of our competitors.
M: Will we be able to afford all this?
W: I'll look into it, but I think higher costs will be justified. These investments will result in higher profits for our company (22).
M: We'll have to look at the figures more closely. Have finance draw up a budget for these investments.
W: All right; I'll see to it.
(23)
A.The benefits of strong business competition.
B.A proposal to lower the cost of production.
C.Complaints about the expense of modernization.
D.Suggestions concerning new business strategies.
Peter: Molly, look at this. The newspaper says we should sort trash.
Molly: That would be great! I always hate it when people mixing all the trash together.
Peter: () Many communities have already done that.
Molly: Yeah. The benefits of sorting out trash are obvious.
Peter: For instance?
Molly: If trash is sorted, it can be transferred to factories instead of the disposal plant.
Peter: That makes sense. ()Molly: With trash separated, pollution caused by incineration can be avoided.
Peter: It is high time for us to sort out the trash. Trash is trash only when everything is mixed together. () they can be useful again.
Molly: () Things like paper, glass, and plastics can all be recycled. They can be reused.
Peter: Sorting is good. () If people have no idea how to sort their trash, they will still put all waste in the same bag.
Molly: You are right. People should be informed about how to do that in the first place. Moreover, sorting trash should be made easy for us. Otherwise, few people would bother to do it.
Peter: I hope everything goes smoothly!
Molly: I believe it will.
A. I couldn't agree more.
B. What else?
C. Once we separate and recycle them.
D. But I have a concern.
E. That is really a great advice.
Learning Styles We all learn in different ways. One theory of learning focuses on the way information is given to learners and refers to visual, auditory and kinaesthetic learners. • Visual learners respond well to pictures, colours, images. They need to see things to help them learn and remember. • Auditory learners learn best by hearing things. • Kinaesthetic learners like movement. They need movement and hands-on tasks to help them learn. In any class we teach, the learners will have a range of learning styles. This means that to help all of our learners learn we have to use a range of classroom activities and techniques so that different styles of learner are interested and can learn from our lessons. (Adapted from: British Council (2008), Teaching Speaking) If this is the first part of a text on learning styles, what do you think the second part will be about?
A、Different tasks and techniques that teachers can use to reach all learners.
B、Explanation for the causes of different learning styles.
C、The benefits of different learning styles.
D、None of the above.
