Number one is to have clear goals. Decide how many years you will invest for, and what your needs will be in the future.
Number two is to understand the range of possibilities. You'll want a diversified portfolio: one with a mix of stocks, mutual funds, bonds, and cash. It's a jungle out them. Each of these products has different risks associated with them and also different potential rewards. Understand them before you buy, so there won't be any big surprises later.
Finally, number three is to have realistic expectations. As our Mend Leonardo da Vinci said in the year 1500: "He who wishes to be rich in a day will be hanged in a year."
Over the past several years, New York stocks have averaged 30% annual returns, but don't count on this continuing. While it's true that since the year 1900, stocks have averaged an 11% annual return. It's a roller-coaster ride with many minus years as well, so you have to stay in for the long term--you have to weather the storm--and not be too greedy.
(30)
A.To develop a savings plan.
B.To set up a bank account.
C.To set clear investing goals.
D.To work out the budget.

The trade between the two countries amounts to several billion dollars a year. Many U.S. banks therefore have offices in Japan, particularly in Tokyo and Osaka, the largest cities. Jean McPherson is the manager of one of those branch banks in Tokyo.
Jean majored in accounting and business administration in college. After graduation she got a job with a large New York bank. After two years in accounting, she was transferred to the loan department. Many of the loans which she was asked to consider involved international transactions. Some of them were so complicated that Jean felt she didn't have a broad enough background to understand them.
To get more experience, she asked for a transfer to the bank's international department She became so expert in international finance that it became her career. 听力原文: Hi, I'm George Boros. Have you always wanted to invest, but didn't know where to get started? We're here today to present you with three basic guidelines to smart investing, for your future.
Number one is to have clear goals. Decide how many years you will invest for, and what your needs will be in the future.
Number two is to understand the range of possibilities. You'll want a diversified portfolio: one with a mix of stocks, mutual funds, bonds and cash. It's a jungle out there. Each of these products has different risks associated with them and also different potential rewards. Understand them before you buy, so there won't be any big surprises later.
Finally, number three is to have realistic expectations. As our friend Leonardo da Vinci said in the year 1500 :"He who wishes to be rich in a day will be hanged in a year."
Over the past several years, New York stocks have averaged 30% annual returns, but don't count on this continuing. While it's true that since the year 1900, stocks have averaged an 11% annual return, it's a roller-coaster ride with many minus years as well, so you have to stay in for the long term—you have to weather the storm—and not be too greedy.
Well, let's get started and Happy hunting! For FNN, this is George Boros reporting.
What is the first guideline to investing according to the speaker?
A.To develop a savings plan.
B.To set up a bank account.
C.To set clear investing goals.
D.To decide on the type of business for investment.
Any discussion of this topic is bound to question the aims of education. Stuffing children's heads full of knowledge is far from being foremost among them. One of the chief aims of educations is to equip future citizens with all they require to take their place in adult society. Now adult society is made up of men and women, so how can a segregated school possibly offer the right sort of preparation for it? Anyone entering adult society after years of segregation can only be in for a shock.
A co-educational school offers children nothing less than a true version of society in miniature. Boys and girls are given the opportunity to get to know each other, to learn to live together from their earliest years. They are put in a position where they can compare themselves with each other in terms of academic ability, athletic achievement and many of the extra-curricular activities which are part of school life, What a practical advantage it is (to give just a small example) to be able to put on a school play in which the male parts will be taken by boys and the female parts by girls! What nonsense co-education makes of the argument that boys are cleverer than girls or vice-versa? When segregated, boys and girls are made to feel that they are a race apart. Rivalry between the sexes is fostered. In a coeducational school, everything falls into its proper place.
But perhaps the greatest contribution of co-education is the healthy attitude to life it encourages. Boys don't grow up believing that women are mysterious creatures—airy goddesses, more like book-illustrations to a fairy-talc, than human beings. Girls don't grow up imagining that men are romantic heroes, Years of living together at school dispel illusions of this kind. There are no goddesses with freckles, pigtails, piercing voices and inky fingers. There are no romantic heroes with knobbly knees, dirty fingernails and unkempt hair. The awkward stage of adolescence brings into sharp focus some of the physical and emotional problems involved in growing up, These can better be overcome in a co-educational environment. Segregated schools sometimes provide the right conditions for sexual deviation. This is hardly possible under a co-educational system. When the time comes for the pupils to leave school, they are fully prepared to enter society as well-adjusted adults. They have already had years of experience in coping with many of the problems that face men and women.
What is the main idea of this passage?
A.Only co-education can make women equal to men.
B.People are in need of both co-education and aggregated education.
C.What makes the society truly harmonious is simply unthinkable.
D.Co-education has many features.
听力原文:W: Jackson, I heard that everything went on well with you several years ago.
M: Do let me forget it. At that time I had a wonderful life and was on top of the world. I don't know what drove me to seek diversion in poker machines. So pretty soon I was going to play the pokies quite often and yes I was enjoying myself and sometimes even won a few dollars.
W: Is the game so attractive?
M: You never know. It has a kind of magic. I was totally consumed. Anyway the whole story is long and covers the last seven years and though I have tried to be unemotional. I must say now that I have been through hell and I've felt as if I was already dead.
W: For so long a time, haven't you ever thought to wash your hands?
M: When I am gambling, I don't care about anything else. I know I was addicted and powerless to stop. I've lost much. Even so all I can dream of is the big win.
W: Several years has passed, tell us what your feeling is now?
M: I end up just as bad, and hate myself. My health suffered, my finance was in ruin, and I didn't have the willpower to stop. I have been homeless many times and my life has become unmanageable.
W: That's a crying shame. It's high time you turned over a new leaf. Wish you success.
Which one of the following was NOT among the conditions of the man several years ago?
A.He was a plane pilot.
B.The man enjoyed a comfortable life.
C.He was soon crazy about poker machines.
D.Everything went well and he felt very happy.
