Inertial guidance is the name given to those types of systems which guide and keep track o
f the location of vehicles which are free to move in three dimensions. Vehicles which move only on a plane surface, such as ships or automobiles, require only an accurate compass, sextant, and clock to keep track of their present position. When a vehicle can travel up or down as well as north or east, it is much more difficult to fix its position. An inertial platform. is used in inertial guidance to measure vehicle altitude and acceleration which are then integrated to provide position and velocity. The inertial platform. consists of three gyroscopes and three accelerometers mounted in the inner gimbal of the four gimbal platform. The purpose of the inertial platform. is to allow the vehicle to move in any direction about the inner gimbal containing the gyros and accelerometers, without disturbing or turning them from their original orientation. Thus the gyros and accelerometers do not mm when the vehicle turns so they sense altitude and acceleration with respect to their original inertial reference frame. If the acceleration is always known with respect to this original inertial reference frame, it can be integrated to provide velocity and then integrated again to provide distance. Thus the distance and velocity of the vehicle with respect to its starting point are known.

Inertial guidance systems are used today in airplanes, submarines, and spacecraft. They display for the pilot his pitch, roll and yaw angles, his heading, his speed, and his latitude and longitude. These are very important items to have readily available, whether one is in a high speed vehicle with very low visibility due to poor weather, or in a spacecraft traveling in lunar orbit. The main features of inertial systems are that they are automatic and do not require any external information. Thus, the pilot does not have to feed in any information except the original position and altitude. Inertial systems serve a need on fast moving vehicles moving in a three dimensional plane, where position information is required by the pilot almost constantly.

It can be interred from the article that an inertial guidance system is similar to

A.a gyroscope.

B.a high speed vehicle.

C.a navigator.

D.a submarine.

The prefix Mach is used to describe supersonic speed. It was named for Ernst Mach (1838-1916), a Czech-born Austrian physicist, who contributed to the study of sound. When twice the speed of sound, it is Mach 2. When it is near but below the speed of sound, its speed can be designated at less than Mach 1. for example, Mach 90. Mach is defined as "the ratio of the velocity of a rocket or a jet to the velocity of sound in the medium being considered."

When a plane passes the sound barrier-flying faster than sound travels' listeners in the area hear thunderclaps, but the pilot of the plane does not hear them.

Sound is produced by vibrations of an object and is transmitted by alternate increase and decrease in pressure that radiate outward through a material media of molecules--somewhat like waves spreading out on a pond after a rock has been tossed into it.

The frequency of sound is determined by the number of times the vibrating waves undulate per second and is measured in cycles per second. The slower the cycle of waves, the lower the frequency. As frequencies increase, the sound is higher in pitch.

Sound is audible to human beings only if the frequency falls within a certain range. The human ear is usually not sensitive to frequencies of fewer than 20 vibrations per second, or more than about 20,000 vibrations per second--although this range varies among individuals. Anything at a pitch higher than the human ear can hear is termed ultrasonic.

Intensity, or loudness, is the strength of the pressure of these radiating waves and is measured in decibels. The human ear responds to intensity in a range from zero to 120 decibels. Any sound with pressure over 120 decibels is painful to the human ear.

The speed of sound is generally placed at 1088 feet per second at sea level at 32 degrees Fahrenheit. It varies in other temperatures and in different media. Sound travels faster in water than in air, and even faster in iron and steel. It travels a mile in 5 seconds in air, it does a mile under water in 1 second, and it travels through iron in 1/3 second. It travels through ice cold vapor at approximately 4,708 feet per second; ice-cold water, 4,938; granite, 12,960; hardwood, 12,620; brick, 11,960, glass. 16,410 to 19,690; silver, 8,658; gold, 5,717.

According to this passage, "Mach" refers to

A.the ratio of the air speed of an aircraft to the speed of sound.

B.a machine.

C.a Czech-born Australian physicist.

D.the pilot of the plane.

Read the following mini case and answer the questions: Topic: IKEA Timing: June 15, 2017 News: China Daily; Reuters Characters: Mr Torbjorn Loof, Chief Executive, Inter Ikea Group Now testing what does digital shopping mean? The furniture megastore IKEA has its own e-commerce services, however, partnering with a site like Amazon, which offers legendary free shipping for its Prime members, could bring Ikea's products to a whole new group of consumers. Even die-hard fans of the brand could perceivably shop online, avoiding the winding, labyrinth-like stores and fill up a virtual cart at their Ikea-furnished homes. Exorbitantly high shipping costs and a limited selection of products are limiting Ikea's own e-commerce platform. Considering that furniture is pretty big, it can't cost just a few bucks to ship something like a couch or dining room table, especially when the parts required to assemble it all, come in more than one box. Inter Ikea Group Chief Executive, Torbjorn Loof told Reuters. "We will test and pilot, to see 'what does this mean, what does digital shopping look like in future? We have one great advantage and that is that we design, produce, and distribute our own unique range." This would be the very first time that Ikea's experimented with selling through channels outside of its own operations. Additionally, Reuters reports that Ikea is planning to open smaller stores in different metropolitan areas to provide access to more customers. Give short answers to the following questions: 1. If you are Mr Torbjorn Loof, what your decision would be: should IKEA enter into partnership with Amazon? 2. How IKEA should engage in digital selling activities in China?
