听力原文： The World Health Organization is to call for strict controls on junk food in a major campaign against obesity, and the agency will unveil its actual strategy next week. Based on evidence obtained through various investigations, the WHO believes that obesity has become a global epidemic that is directly associated with more than 30 million deaths each year. According to the agency, obesity is now one of the world's three greatest health threats, along with smoking and malnutrition. Recent estimates suggest that 1.7 billion people are now obese, which has led to a surge in diseases such as cancers and diabetes.
The WHO will call for heavy cuts in the use of sugar, salt and saturated fats. And this is bound to sound the alarm to many of Britain's top-selling brands, including Cadbury's, Coca-Cola, and Birds Eye. The WHO will produce a policy paper calling for new daily limits for sugar, salt and fats, as well as tougher control of food advertising. According to the figures issued by the WHO, the safety threshold for sugar would be 10gms a day—a limit already exceeded by one 500ml bottle of cola and, salt should be limited to 5gms a day—the amount of salt contained in a standard tin of baked beans.

听力原文： Experts from seven nations gathered at a Beijing conference Monday, contributing their ideas on security and counter-terrorism for the upcoming 2008 Olympics.
International terrorism, highly-organized transnational crime and security issues for large-scale sports events are on the agenda for the conference, which is cosponsored by the Beijing Olympics security headquarters and the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute, said Ma Zhenchuan, director of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau. Ma said Beijing has been updating police work and police methods, improving equipment and boosting the overall quality of police, in anticipation of the Olympic Games. He said Beijing police will actively cooperate and communicate with international experts and establish advanced security mechanisms.
UN Deputy Secretary General David Veness said he appreciated China's goal of a "safe Olympics". "We have seen tragedies occur at some sports events in recent years and do not want that to happen in Beijing," said Veness. He hoped that Beijing could draw some valuable lessons from the conference. "China has already cooperated extensively with our organization and we have witnessed the huge efforts made by China over the past few years," said the official.
Beijing police have been testing security mechanisms since 2005 at many international sports events in the city, said Liu Shaowu, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau. Liu said the Beijing police will continue to work on Olympic security, and particularly risks represented by terrorism and organized crime.

听力原文： Three summers ago, a young boy named Robert from the Harlem area of New York City found a special second home. He traveled away from the city to live with the Lober family in New York State spending the summer playing with other children, swimming and sailing a boat. Today, Robert continues to visit the Lobers who consider him a part of their family.
This special visit was made possible by an organization called the Fresh Air Fund started in 1877 when New York City was overwhelmed with the disease tuberculosis. Many children lived in crowded apartments. This accelerated the spread of the disease. So getting these children "fresh air" in the country was seen as a solution to this problem.
Today, the Fresh Air Fund still helps children from low-income communities in New York experience life in the country with a host family.
