听力原文:W: Hi, Peter.

M: Hi, Laura.

W: How was your final?

M: Absolutely no idea. Anyway, it's just wonderful to have finished the exam.

W: Yeah, to sleep in every morning.

M: Well, I've got a lot to do before I leave for Chicago. I've got a lot of things I can't take back with me and I don't know what to do with them. I am wondering if I can sell them to someone before going back to Chicago. Perhaps you could give me some advice.

W: Well, it depends on what sort of things they are.

M: There are quite a lot. I have a computer which is second-hand and not worth much. (19)What I really want to get rid of is the furniture, the fridge and other kitchen stuff. Oh, there are some clothes and books as well.

W: I see. Well, there are several alternatives. (20)First of all, you could put up notices around the university about the books--you know on the notice boards in the student union building, and anywhere the second and third year students will see them. People are always keen to buy cheap textbooks.

M: Then what should I say on the notices?

W: Just put the titles, authors and prices you want. Don't forget to put your phone number.

M: That's a good idea. What about the furniture?

W: You could try the same thing, but usually Students are away all summer so they don't want to buy furniture now. Another place to try might be a secondhand shop. Someone from the shop will usually come around and give you a free quote, and then you can decide. (21)But normally you won't get much money for that sort of stuff.

(23)

A.Tennis sets.

B.Computer and TV set.

C.Bookcase and book shelf.

听力原文:M: Hi, Mandy. How's everything going?

W: Not too good, I suppose.

M: What happened?

W: Well, you know I moved out from Mrs. Henzer's nine months ago. (10) And all along I forgot to inform. the registration office to get my address changed. Guess what? The library sent three reminder notices on the fines incurred on the overdue books and Mrs. Henzer kept the letters without returning them to the senders.

M: How did you find out?

W: Well, I went to the registration to get my transcript. but they said (9) there are some outstanding fines that I have to settle before they can release it.

M: Then just pay the fine and you can get your transcript. What's the big problem?

W: Yeah, that's exactly what I thought, (9) but the fine came to $150 and that was a shock to me.

M: Ooh. That's a bit of a bite! Did you keep the book for long?

W: Guess what? I checked with the library and they told me three books are still outstanding. They're from 8 months ago. I thought I'd returned them.

M: Are you sure you returned the books yourself or did you get someone to do it?

W: (11) Well, hard to recall now since it was so long ago. At that time I was holding two jobs and had to juggle with school. I really thought I had returned them.

M: Tell you what. (12) Why don't you go back to Mrs. Henzer's and see if the books are still there? Otherwise, you'll have to pay for the lost books and I'm sure they will cost more than $150.

W: (12) I guess that's the only choice I'm left with right now.

9. What problem does the woman have?

10.Why didn't the woman receive the three reminder notices?

NDEs and OBEs

In NDEs (Near Death Experiences) one of the first things the experiencer notices is being outside his body. Below, I have described two typical OBE (Out-of-Body Experience) situations found in NDEs. These are used for illustration purposes and are not intended to be comprehensive.

In the first, the experiencer finds himself floating in the air looking down on the activity below. If this is a hospital room, he will see the doctors and nurses working on his lifeless body. The doctors' conversations will be remembered and the tools they are using identified by the experiencer after he is brought back to life.

In the second, the experiencer leaves the location of his lifeless body and visits other places and/or people. Upon being brought back to life the experiencer will remember in detail the conversations and events seen while OBE. Many of these conversations and events will later be verified by those the experiencer observed while OBE.

What is most likely the meaning of the abbreviation of OBE?

A.On the Beginning of Existence.

B.Out-of-Birth Experiences.

C.Out-of-Body Experiences.

D.On the Beginning Experience.
