One day in January, my uncle, my cousin and I decided to go hunting. We left by car in the

afternoon. It was a Range Rover with four-wheel drive. It took us three hours to get there. After we arrived at 5:15 p. m. , we fixed the tent, then made coffee and had a short rest. After that, we went hunting, using a falcon(猎鹰). We spent two hours without finding anything. On our way back to the camp, my cousin saw a rabbit. I removed the falcon's head cover and let go of the aggressive falcon. When the rabbit saw the falcon, it ran fast, but my falcon was a professional hunter. He flew up and came down to trick the rabbit. After two minutes, the rabbit was caught. We took it back to the camp to cook our dinner. We ate the delicious food, drank Arabic coffee, and sat around the fire talking until 10:30 p. m.

We left the camp the next day at 7 o'clock in the morning. We went north. However, around 10. 00 a. m., our car got stuck in the sand! We spent about three hours trying to pull out the car without any progress. Finally, we decided to walk. As it was hard for an old man or a young boy to walk more than 40 km in the desert, I decided to get help myself. I took a bottle of water with me and started to walk south alone. I knew the way well, but it was a long way in the sand. 1 walked more than four hours without stopping. When I felt so tired and thirsty, I stopped to rest. I drank all the water and slept for around two hours.

When I got up, it was dark. I continued to walk south. I was worried about my uncle and cousin. Suddenly, I met a Bedouin man who was riding his camel. He took me to his house. When I had had enough rest, I asked him to take me to the road where I found a car. It took me to the city to get help. I had one day to get back to my uncle and cousin. When I got back to them, they were so happy because I had gotten help and they were able to see me again.

Which word can best describe the first evening of their hunting trip?

A.Disappointed

B.Enjoyable.

C.Comfortable.

D.Exhausted

听力原文: The second Monday of January is Coming-of-Age Day, a national holiday to encourage those who have newly entered adulthood to become self-reliant members of society. The holiday used to be on January 15, but in 2000 it was moved to the second Monday of the month.

The local governments host special coming-of-age ceremonies for 20-year-olds, since an "adult" in Japan is legally defined as one who is 20 or over. They gain the right to vote on their twentieth birthday, and they're also allowed to smoke and drink. But along with these rights come new responsibilities as well, and so age 20 is a big turning point for the Japanese.

In the past boys marked their transition to adulthood when they were around 15, and girls celebrated their coming of age when they turned 13 or so. It wasn't until 1876 that 20 became the legal age of adulthood.

These days, males generally wear suits to their coming-of-age ceremony, but a lot of females choose to wear traditional furisode (振袖,状似和服的长袖)—a special type of clothes for unmarried women with extra-long sleeves and elaborate designs. For unmarried women, furisode is about the most formal thing they can wear, and so many of them wear it to the event marking the start of their adult life.

(33)

A.On January 15.

B.The second Monday of January.

C.The second Sunday of January.

D.On January 5.

10.How the Month of July Got Its Name? The month o...

10.How the Month of July Got Its Name? The month of July, unlike June, is named for a mortal, albeit one who devised and ruled an empire. Julius Caesar was a Roman general, statesman, and historian who conquered Gaul (what is now part of Italy, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands), changed the structure of the Roman government into a dictatorship, was assassinated in legendary fashion, and most importantly for our purposes, helped make the calendar what it is today. Caesar is responsible for the year as we know it having 365 days, and for the existence of a leap year every four years. How did this Julian Calendar change things? The early Roman calendar had an intercalary month called Intercalans that was 27 or 28 days long, added once every two years after February 23rd. For years including Intercalans, the remaining five days of February were omitted. Our contemporary calendar is still pretty much the same system Caesar instituted more than 2000 years ago. July was originally Quintilis, the fifth month of the year in the Roman calendar and consisted of 31 days. It was changed around 450 BCE when January became the first month of the year. Its name was changed during the Julian calendar reform in 45 BCE to honor Julius Caesar. In modern times, July also has 31 days. It is the warmest month of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and coldest month in the Southern hemisphere. The month of July starts on the same day of the week as April during common years and as January during leap years. July does not end on the same day of the week as any year in a common year but ends on the same day of the week as January in a leap year. July was named in honor of Julius Caesar. When Julius Caesar died, Quintilis, which was his birth month, was renamed with July. Quintilis means “fifth month” in Latin, which represents where this month originally fell in the Roman calendar. Another of Julius Caesar’s legacies is the C section. The Cesarean section is“an operation by which a fetus is taken from the uterus by cutting through the walls of the abdomen and uterus.” It has been rumored that Julius Caesar himself was born in this way, although historians tend to pooh-pooh this etymology. 20.July ends on the same day of the week as January in the following years except____

A、2008

B、2020

C、2024

D、2021

have been installed to stave off any future disaster.
