听力原文: A week ago few would have predicted that India's Pullela Gopichand would be the

mall to win what was probably badminton's hottest ever singles tournament.

All 16 of the world's top ranked players battled for the All England Championship. They included the three medal winners from the Sydney Olympics and current No. 1 Peter Gade of Denmark.

But it was the quiet thoughtful 27-year-old from Bangd-lore who lifted the trophy on March 11 after beating Ching's Chen Hong 15 -12, 15 -6 in the final.

It was the first Indian victory in the men's singles tournament since Prakash Padukone, now Gopichand's national coach, won the title in 1980.

Copichand, a typical Asian mixture of power and touch, played consistently at the top of his game. He disposed both Gade and Olympic champion Ji Xinpeng of China along the way.

Sunday's loser Chen can look back with satisfaction on an event in which compatriot Ji and Xia Xuanze, the defending champion, both were disappointed.

But generally, China had good championships.

The women's single's title went to Olympic Champion Gong Zhichao. She defended her All England crown with a comfortable 11-7, 11-3 success over compatriot Zhou Mi. Then Gao Ling teamed up with Huang Sui to win the women's doubles after earlier lifting the mixed doubles title with Zhang Jun.

The mixed doubles victory was agony for the top seeded Danish pair of Michael Sogaard and Rikke Olsen, who failed to convert two match points and lost 13 - 13, 15 - 12, 17 - 14.

Who won the All England Championship?

A.Pulleta Gopichand

B.Peter Gade.

C.Chen Hong.

D.Prakash Padukone.

听力原文:F: Hey, jack! How are you these days?

M: Not very well. I always feel tired. What's even worse, I often feel depressed for no reason. It seems that I feel tired of the Internet.

F: YOU? Tired of the Internet? Don't you spend at least five hours a day on the net?

M: Yes, I do. But there are times when the Net bored me to tears; however, I don't know what to do when I'm not sitting in front of the computer.

F: Oh, poor guy. I think your depression has something to do with the Internet.

M: Will the Internet cause depression?

F: Several days ago, I attended a lectured. The professor told us that Internet use appears to cause a decline in psychological health, according to research at Carnegie Mellon University. They started the research two years ago and found that even people who spent just a few hours a week on the Internet experienced more depression and loneliness than those who logged on less frequently.

M: I do not understand. I think at least the Net should be healthier than television. You know, when watching TV, we are like fools staring at the screen. But on Internet, you have absolute freedom to choose your information and you can communicate with your friends by emails, or by chatting online, or by leaving messages on BBS.

How is Jacky recently?

A.He is fine.

B.He is sick.

C.He is crazy about Internet.

D.He feels depressed for no reason.

听力原文: Fifty years ago, Milton Friedman proposed a Voucher System to improve American education. Today, about 36,000 students are served by vouchers. The programs are in the city of the Washington D. C., and three of the fifty states: Florida, Ohio and Wiseonsin. The number of students will grow with 14, 000 new vouchers just approved by lawmakers in Ohio. And Utah will offer a Voucher program for disabled students. A few states offer tax credits or other forms of support to help parents pay for private schools.

One objection to vouchers has to do with the fact that most private schools are religious. The Constitution separates government and religion. Voucher critics argue that the use of public money for religious schools is unconstitutional. They suggest public schools should get more money so all children can attend good schools near their home.

Yet some people think all families should be offered vouchers, not just poor ones. Milton Freidman and his wife started the Milton and Rose D. Friedman Foundation to work for school choice with the goal to improve, through competition, the quality of education for all.

Milton Friedman had his ninety-third birthday on Sunday. The Nobel Prize-winning economist has been talking to reporters about the fiftieth anniversary of his proposal. Mr. Friedman told Education Week that he thinks fifty years from now, all students will be served by school vouchers.

The target of the voucher programs is

A.to improve American education.

B.to cause competition among schools.

C.to support children in poor families.

D.to support disabled children.
