听力原文:W: Hi, John!
M: Oh. Hi, Laura. What are you doing here?
W: Uh... I'm usually here on weekends. It's my dad's shop. So... you're looking for a bike?
M: Yeah. Now that the weather's warming up, I thought I'd get some exercise, instead of taking the bus all the time.
W: Well, you came to the right place. Do you know what you'd like?
M: Well, I don't want a racer or a touring bike or anything. Mostly I'll just be using it to get me back and forth from work.
W: How far is that?
M: About four miles.
W: Are there a lot of hills on the way?
M: Some, I guess. But... uh ... maybe I should just tell you up front that I've only got a hundred and fifty dollars. Can I get anything decent for that?
W: Well, you're not going to get anything top-of-the-line —but we do have a few trade-ins in the back that're in good condition.
M: That sounds good.
W: Follow me and I'll show you what we've got.

Mr. Anderson: I've been here for about five or six days. I'm here just for a paid vocation.
Mr. Green: Where do you come from, Mr. Anderson?
Mr. Anderson: I come from New York. I suppose everyone in the world must know this place.
Mr. Green: I think so. It's a wonderful city. All people long to go there for a visit. Do you live in the center of the city?
Mr. Anderson: I live at 2035 Washington Street. Do you know it?
Mr. Green: Sorry, I don't know. I've never been there. By the way, it seems that you know spree German. How long have you spoken this language?
Mr. Anderson: How long? I've spoken German all my life! You see, my grandfather is a German. He began teaching me German when I was very small.

The guard said, "You've just missed one. A train goes every hour. The next one is at ten o'clock."
"That's all right," they said, "We'll go and have a drink." So off they went to a bar (酒吧间). A minute or two after ten o'clock they came running and asked the guard, "Has the train gone?"
"Yes," the guard said. "It went at ten, as I told you. The next one is at eleven o' clock."
"That's all right," they said again. "We'll go and have another drink." So they went back to the bar.
They missed the eleven o' clock train in the same way. Then the guard said, "Now, the next train is the last one. If you miss that train, you won't get to London tonight."
Twelve o'clock came, and the last train was just starting out when the three of them came out of the bar running as fast as they could. Two of them got in the train just as it was leaving, but the third one didn't run fast enough, and the train went out leaving him behind. He stood there looking at the train and laughing, as if (好像) to miss a train was the best joke in the world. The guard went up to him and said, "I told you that this was the last train. Why didn't you come earlier?"
The man kept laughing until tears came into his eyes. Then he caught hold of the guard and said, "Did you see the two men get into the train and leave me here?"

W: Last year I visited Europe. It was interesting to see the ancient ruins there, too.
M: When I look at our country's history, I begin to sense what a young country the States really is.
W: Yes. There are many countries whose histories were ancient when ours was just beginning.
M: The first English settlers arrived in America about the time the last Chinese dynasty began.
W: I believe one reason America has been able to be so successful in so many aspects is that it had no ancient traditions to bind it down.
M: Why would you say that? The settlers to America came from countries all over the world and must have brought their traditions with them.
W: Yes, they did and those traditions have enriched the American heritage; however, their purpose in coming to this new country was so they could make a change from the way they were living. Most immigrants to America were penniless. They came here to take advantage of a new way of life.
M: Sometimes I think we ignore the history of the native people encountered here in the Americas, both North and South.
W: Well, that's true. I've noticed, however, that the remains of civilizations in North America don't appear to be as ancient as those found in Mexico or Central and South America.
M: Those civilizations must have been as ancient as what I saw in China. They didn't have an influence on the modern countries, though. Why is that?
W: It's because those were dead civilizations. For some reasons, the traditions from those civilizations did not carry on to the surviving natives of the land.
M: Do you think that's the reason, or is it that the immigrants who exerted authority over the natives were able to suppress their traditions?
W: I would think both are explanations.

It was in middle school that racial discrimination was most obvious. I was often the victim of racial taunts. After undergoing such a humiliation, I would feel a mixture of anger and depression. However, the worst thing was knowing hell well that even if I reported this to a teacher. It would be to no avail. Outside school, racial discrimination is far subtler. Some English—it's all over their face.
Of course, a British person will probably think I'm paranoid or just too sensitive, a depressive even. Perhaps the latter may have some truth in it. Nevertheless, it is reality that has created this aspect of my character. Besides, how could the average British person possibly understand?
Sometimes, doing my best does not necessarily lead to success. Often, this is not duc to myself, but duc to the environment. It's as though I'm a second class citizen. Although my passport is British, I'm a nevertheless Chinese. Is Britain really my country?
According to the writer's description, he/she must be ______.
A.black
B.white
C.brown
D.yellow
听力原文:M: So, this is your first year in university, isn't it?
W: Yeah, it is actually. What about you?
M: I'm an old hand. I've been studying here five years already.
W: Oh, but you know a lot about Australia.
M: I just came to Australia to study. And you?
W: I'm an Australian. Sum I am. My great grandparents came here during the gold rush. Why did you come to Australia to study? Don't you have universities in your own country?
M: Well, we do. But because I was interested in studying Marine Biology, it was better me to study overseas. That's the main reason for not studying at home. So I thought there is either Australia or the United States. I didn't even consider Britain be- cause it's just too cold. And Australia is cheaper than the States. So here I am.
W: So, you must be strange when you came to arrive. What did you feel like?
M: Actually, I have to say my English was pretty fluent. So that wasn't really a problem. My main problem was making friends.
W: Oh, you seem to be pretty confident.
M: Sure I am.
W: So what makes you change?
M: Well, I join the water-polo club at sports centre here. And I was the only foreigner and I found the other guys in this club to be very friendly. You know, down-to-earth, sort of way.
W: And what about your study here?
M: I think the most amazing was seeing how the students criticized and questioned what the lecturer said. They never do that in my country. Lecturers are almost like God over there. Yes, practical thinking was the hard thing for me to get used to it.

A.It's too cold at home.
B.It is more expensive.
C.He was interested in Marine Biology.
D.He was interested in Australia.

听力原文:M: I am really under the weather, I can't tell up from down.
W: You've been sick quite a hit since you got here, haven't you?
M: Well, for the past few weeks, the weather in this city has been changing a lot. It's awful. One day it's hot outside, and the next day it's raining. No matter what I put on, I'm always dressed inappropriately for the day. Just last Monday, I wore a T-shirt and a pair of shorts, and we had a thunderstorm. I believe that day is the reason I'm sick now.
W: You just haven't learned to predict the changing climate in this city yet. Many newcomers complain about the same problem. I've been here for five years and I rarely get sick because I'm always dressed appropriately for the weather. But when I first came, that was a different story. It takes a while to learn how to predict the weather for the day, but eventually you'll learn.
M: I know. There's just a period of time when I'm still learning that's the hardest to get through. I guess I'll just have to buy lots of cold medicine in the meantime.
W: I heard there's a weather hot line that will tell you the temperature for the day. I'd like to find out if it really helps. Maybe you can give them a call tomorrow morning.
M: Not me! I heard that it was very expensive and I don't have that kind of money.
What can be inferred about the man?
A.He has been in the city for a long time.
B.He comes here to apply for a degree.
C.He is in a poor physical condition and easily catches a cold.
D.He is very wealthy.
